Fantastic from arrival at the spa, to the amazing hot stone massage. Afternoon tea 1st class, was a surprise birthday treat and the staff were amazing. Evening meal superb, totally relaxed and rejuvenated after our stay. Will be back.

away from the city

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

this hotel is OLD!! its quaint , the grounds are nice and there's a spa, if they would give you an appt!! the food is barely OK but the staff are lovely. However, its too far from the beautiful city of Edinburgh!! too far and too much traffic to get to the sites of the city..... don't stay here if you want the city experience

spa day

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I have been to a few spas and recently attended norton house spa and they really stood out from the rest. The entrance was welcoming and whilst i was filling out my consultation form, we had pastrys and drinks , due to a coffee morning.this was lovely and helped begin the day of relaxation. The staff i encountered were all friendly and explained the day. Me and my friend were then given a tour of the facilities, i appreciated this. I am someone with anxiety , so can get overwhelmed - this simple tour meant i knew what to expect and was instantly at ease ! I have friends who are neurodivergent and would recommend Norton house spa to them as the staff are patient , everything is explained and its a very chilled sensory experience ( even before a treatment). my treatment was with Elaine , who again explained everything and i have had many massages but this stood out.in terms of pressure , technique and products used, Elaine was amazing, i truly switched off and that night had the best sleep ever. Afterwards , another staff member , i forgot her name ( sorry ) helped me choose my products and was so friendly and approachable. The staff in the spa all seem happy at what they do, really represent norton house well and are a credit to their management. After my treatment , i had some time in the relaxation room, i'd hire that place for naps if i could ! then it was time for afternoon tea , i have a strawberry allergy and they were so acommodating . Allergies can sometimes feel a burden but its the first time i've not had any issues. then we got some time for the hydro pool, shower experience ( loved the lights) and sauna/ steam room. Overall a day well spent , nothing was rushed and the first spa day i have felt managed to focus on mind, body and soul. Norton House Spa also stood out from the rest by being a luxurious treat , without pretentious snobbery. I think sometimes spas can be intimidating or feel " posh " but Norton house spa gets the balance perfect in being a luxurious treat but one that is accesiible to all. It is like having the best spa day of your life , whilst feeling in a safe , friendly space with friends.

Fantastic venue

Stayed over at this fantastic hotel, for the first, time to attend an evening wedding party and we were genuinely gutted at having to leave. Were able to check into our Room (304) early which was a real bonus and allowed us to take advantage of the excellent Health Club and Spa facilities. Our room itself was absolutely spotless with every facility we could have asked for. Didn't have dinner in the hotel, but the breakfast in the morning was fantastic, and easily the best slice of Black Pudding I've ever eaten The wedding party was such good fun at night too. The food for it was spot on, and there never felt like a long wait to get served for a drink. Had one last visit to the Spa after checking out. Wouldn't hesitate to return here.

Lovely Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Overall a very good stay. We stayed in the Edinburgh Suite which is in the west wing (newer part) of the hotel. Separate shower which was very good with excellent water pressure, comfortable beds and a lovely seating area. 2 issues with the suite: The safe is at floor level which makes it very difficult to use for us older guests. I had to lie down on the floor to see the numbers and to open and close it! The suite lighting system was a bit hit and miss and rather difficult to use - what happened to good old fashioned switches / dimmers? Staff were all very helpful and pleasant. We were helped with our luggage promptly, reception ladies were excellent, bar and restaurant staff were also very good and the spa manicure lady super. We only stayed for 1 night prior to a flight out of the nearby airport and will definitely use the hotel again when we have early flights.
