Reviews for The Scotsman Hotel

Edinburghs hidden gem!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Well what can I say???!!! Just back from this absolute gem and had the best time! Me and my 3 friends booked 2 deluxe rooms for 2 nights last weekend for a 50th/60th birthday treat and had just the most fabulous time!!! From check in to check out it was faultless. We were met by concierge Steven at the back entrance who took very good care of us our entire stay!! Nothing was too much bother, he was a constant professional. Jan the General Manager of The Scotsman went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and luxurious. He was very professional and super knowledgeable about all things Scotsman!! We had drinks in the Grand Cafe both nights and were served both nights by the delightful and sassy Shammy!! I’d return to the bar just for him he was funny, courteous and knew his stuff!!! We had breakfast on the 2nd morning and it was devine!!! The hot buffet had a great selection of breakfast items all fresh and hot. The cold section had fresh fruit and meats plus we devoured quite a few pastries!! I opted for the Eggs Royale which was cooked to absolute perfection!! All the staff on shift were so lovely but particularly Freya, she was very attentive. I have already rebooked to come back in September and I’m Buzzin!!!!

My holiday vacation

I wanted to share my thoughts on The Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh. It's an amazing place located right in the heart of the city. The hotel is housed in a historic building and boasts beautiful interiors that combine classic charm with modern amenities. The reception team at The Scotsman Hotel is simply amazing - they provided me with a warm welcome and exceptional hospitality. Queenie, the reception manager, is especially helpful and had great recommendations for dining and sightseeing. One of the highlights of this hotel is the complimentary room upgrade i was offered, which had stunning view of the city. Additionally, there are two small complimentary bottles of Scotsman whiskey in the room, which added a touch of local flavor to our stay. The Grand Cafe at The Scotsman Hotel is a must-visit, thanks to its beautiful ambiance and delicious food offerings. The staff members are attentive and friendly, which makes dining there a truly memorable experience. Overall, The Scotsman Hotel offered a delightful blend of historic charm, modern luxury, exceptional service, and culinary delights that has left with a lasting impression of our stay in this enchanting city. I highly recommend it and I can't wait to go back soon!

Fabulous location and building

Communication: Good communication with the hotel from booking to arrival. However it would be good for the hotel to inform those travelling by train that there is easy access to the hotel across the street across from the station, where you can get a lift to reception, instead of struggling up numerous steep steps with luggage. Location: Fabulous location. A minutes walk from the main railway station. 100 yards from the Royal Mile. We walked all around Edinburgh and found the location of the hotel couldn't have been beaten. Reception: Booking in was swift and easy. Stephen the porter was friendly, polite and very informative on the hotel and area. Booking out was ok, although ignored at first as staff were chatting and didn't acknowledge us! Room: Our room was excellent and couldn't bee faulted and we were pleased we had upgraded as we had travelled to celebrate a special occasion. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Large comfy bed, large tv, nespresso coffee machine, coffee pods, various tea's, biscuits, tunnocks chocolate wafer bars, milk cartons (fresh milk available on request) (all replenished daily) and two small bottles of a pleasant whisky. Plenty of space for clothes in the drawers and wardrobe. two relaxing chairs, ironing board and iron, safe. blackout curtains. Bathroom was very spacious, a very large shower, plenty of towels, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Breakfast: Excellent choose for breakfast, plenty of variety. Always cooked well during the 4 breakfasts we had. There was cooked breakfasts, cereals, porridge, fruit, yogurt, pastries, cheeses, hams, rolls, bread, fruit juices, tea, coffee etc everything you could want and more. The only issue we had was on every day other than the first morning we were shown to a table that hadn't been set properly i.e. no cups and saucers, no cutlery, no menu's, no milk jug. We actually laughed on mornings 3 and 4 that a simple thing hadn't been done. However the staff were polite, friendly and helpful and swiftly addressed the missing items when asked. Decor: Fabulous decor throughout the hotel, a majestic building. Cafe Royale: We used this once for an evening meal and on another occasion just for a cocktail. We had a lovely meal with excellent service. The cocktail experience was brilliant, not only did we have a well made cocktails, the server Ramona was informative, friendly and great to chat to, a credit to the restaurant bar. They made the experience brilliant. Would we stay at the Scotsman again: The answer is definitely, although pricey, we loved our stay and miss not being there.

Stunning Building

Stunning hotel in a great location right in the heart of the city. The views from our (superior) room were outstanding and the room itself was beautifully designed. Breakfast OK but our meal in 'The Grand Cafe' was really disappointing and certainly not up to the standard of the rest of the experience. We'd definitely stay again for the location, quality of the room and view but there are plenty of much better options for dinner in Edinburgh.

Excellent- a memorable stay

We had an amazing stay at the Scotsman Hotel. It was fabulous and surpassed our expectations. The room was stunning and had a great view. The hotel was also located right in the center of town and everything is within walking distance. The rooms were very clean and had a very pleasant smell. The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. I want to especially mention about Queenie D’Costa who ensured that our stay was a memorable one. She is not only very pleasant and friendly, but always willing to help. Thank you, Queenie and Jess. We will be back definitely. I will definitely recommend the Scotsman Hotel to friends and family.
