Superb mini break

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This hotel is stunning in every way. We arrived late at night and were thrilled to find our beautiful room had the most incredibly comfortable bed and pillows. Opening the curtains on the first morning was a real treat (we had booked the castle view club room) with a breathtaking view. The hotel is ideally placed in the heart of Edinburgh and the room was exceptional, spotlessly clean, spacious with so much thought in the design and amenities. The highlight for us was the club lounge where we had a delicious breakfast each morning and wonderful canapés and drinks early evening, all included in the price. It is a wonderful area to sit and relax any time of the day, with soft drinks and and comfortable sofas available. Natalia and her team were so welcoming and kind, with nothing being too much trouble. We hope it wont be too long before we can return!

Well appointed quality rooms.

It was a treat to stay in this hotel. Thrilled there was a bathtub as hotels seem to have them less and less but when you have arthritis it really makes a difference. The attention to detail in the rooms was great. Real glasses, bar soap, cookie treat! A real highlight was the swimming pool, was very pleased the reception staff told us about it upon check in. After long days walking it was wonderful to go for a swim when possible to stretch out. The lobby is somewhat removed and vacuous but the main level entrance more inviting. The bar service was great. The location is a bit removed but there is lots to see and can walk anywhere. Transit is nearby. There wasn’t any information on the hotel and what they offer in the rooms and the website wasn’t that effective. I didn’t know until after we checked out they offer Gin Tastings. We would have certainly tried this had we known.

Comfortable stay

We loved our stay. The room was comfortable and had a great view of the castle. It was close to the royal mile and had wonderful service. Stellar service at this hotel! We had the misfortune of leaving a phone in a taxi and the hotel went above and beyond to help us retrieve it.

Unclear booking can lead to extra charges

Lovely hotel. Polite, friendly staff. We booked via hotels.com and having read that guests of club rooms get access to the spa facilities such as steam room and salt rooms decided to pay the extra. On arrival told it would be an extra £35 each for 3 hours access to these features and club room only gets you access to the indoor pool and sauna. Apparently there are special club and spa rooms! We've scoured the hotels.com website and it doesn't state anywhere that there is any additional charges. Even the Sheraton's own website doesn't have any Club and Spa rooms listed so I'm not entirely sure how your supposed to know! Sadly this spilled out trip as we'd been looking forward to relaxing in the spa each day and using the roof top pool. Having paid nearly £400 per night we refused to pay the extra. The room was okay. Clean and comfortable. The knob to control the TV volume from the bathroom was completely broken and no sound comes from the speaker in there. Toilet area is very small. Very basic tea and coffee facilities. Not even any biscuits or hot chocolate.

Some good, some not so good

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We had a mixed level experience. The people were friendly and helpful. The hotel breakfast was quite good and room service was as well. The restaurant, for dinner, was better than OK but had a pretty limited menu. On the other side, managing the temperature in our room was tough. We had to keep changing setting to keep the room comfortable. And the electrical set up was best described as strange. If you wanted the bedside light on but other lights off, it was very hard to achieve. And the light for the bathroom was over at the entrance door, away from the main area of the room. Yes, there wa a control for the light over the tub, by the sink in the bathroom, but not for any other bathroom lighting. We've stayed there twice in the last two years but are unlikely to return.
