My husband and I stayed at Grand Isle for a quick get away for four nights and loved the resort. The rooms are so spacious, CLEAN!, well equipped, comfy beds and beautifully decorated. I don't know too many places you can travel to in a resort that have such spacious rooms. The resort is small and easy to get around. The pool and pool service was great. The pool overlooks the ocean. You can walk down to the beach and walk past the sandals resort. The restaurant staff were very helpful. You need to try the burgers..they were excellent. We loved it so much we are taking out kids back in the 1st week of July.

Wow. This place is perfect . From the front desk reception to Dave and Tamara in Palapas Restaurant it just ticks all boxes . Such warm and friendly staff. Our villa was immaculate. Can't say enough about this place . Stay here when in Exuma - exceeds expectations.

Great resort if you like it relaxed and small-ish. Pool and bar staff are very accomodating, everyone has a smoke and time to talk to you. We had a two bedroom villa and it was private and quiet, perfect to unwind. No glitz and glamour which was exactly what we were after. 5 nights was just enough; we joined Exuma cays adventures and they were great, the boat was smallish but they've been at it for 35 years, we also went to chat and chill, hop on a water taxi from George Town and chill for the day, also hitlred a car and went to Tropic of Cancer beach; tip - hire ahead or you'll end up with a rust bucket! Enjoy :)

Grand Isle, as we have learned, is not a hotel, but a management company that rents out a number of vacation condominiums owned by different individuals. Our apartment, ostentatiously called 'villa' by the management, was very spacious, impeccably clean and equipped with washing facilities which we really appreciated as we arrived directly from a cruise. The location, the apartments, the pool and the beach are beautiful and that is about the end of it. We were really disappointed in the beginning by the rudimentary restaurant and the lack of other services. After a short drive on the island, in our aged Toyota rented through the resort reception for 130 $ for one day, we understood better. This island simply lacks infrastructure. We did some shopping at the only local SO CALLED supermarket in Georgetown, which in reality is a shack selling a very limited choice of imported foods at exorbitant prices. Our 'favourite' was the bread we bought for 9.90 $ and that they were practically selling no fruits and vegetables. As there was not a single inviting cafe in Georgetown we went back to the resort restaurant and really appreciated getting real food there. We wondered where they got all the meat and salad from.... We took a boat tour, also organized by reception with an external firm. The one day tour is really worth taking. One gets to see the beautiful Out Islands and to understand how these islands have developed from having no water and no electricity in the seventies to the tourist destination they are today. On the other hand, the typical island toilet has neither water nor soap, so there is still a long way to go. Great Exuma is characterized by closed gates resorts, with Grand Isle and Sandals being the driving engines for tourism on the island. The island lives off tourism. Tourism jobs are known for not paying very well, which shows at Grand Isle as well. Employees who have a chance of getting tips are really friendly and nice. The ladies at the reception, as several reviewers have also remarked before me, are not just unfriendly but outright hostile. You have to beg for everything. Some other employees will wish you a wonderful day and say 'enjoy' several times with an emphasis and a tone of voice which clearly indicate what they really mean. What they mean is the opposite. (I'm already expecting the management's reply of how I totally misunderstood. I didn't.) At the end of our stay we were very willing to tip the nice people. However this was rather difficult, as they get rotated all the time. E.g. we have been served by at least 10 waiters during our stay while dining at the same table. Tipping about 3 servers is ok, but 10?
