Perhaps most well known for its part in Stephen King's notorious novel, "The Shining," The Stanley hotel is widely recognized as one of the country's most haunted hotels. In the small town of Estes Park, Colorado - the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park - this mysterious and magical retreat first opened its doors just after the turn of the 20th century. Today, it stands as a cultural novelty, complete with luxury accommodations, fine dining, and access to glorious wilderness and mountain adventure. Guest rooms are housed in either the main building, The Lodge at The Stanley, or Overlook Condos, and every space includes flat-panel television, pillow-top mattress, and complimentary wireless Internet access. Whether your room features scenic views, whirlpool tub, or even a haunted past, you are assured to be comfortable and well entertained at every moment.

Fully embrace your destination and take one of the hotel's professionally guided property tours, including the night tour, a glimpse into Concert Hall and Stanley Steamers, and a five-hour ghost hunt. With your appetite fully stimulated from such activity, The Stanley's three restaurants provide perfect respite. Fine dining at Cascades Restaurant includes classic American cuisine with a flair for steaks and a focus on locally sourced ingredients, and an award-winning selection of wines. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this magnificent dining venue is not to miss. Additionally, The Whiskey Bar & Lounge at Cascades serves lunch and dinner daily, plus a thoroughly impressive array of whiskeys and single malt scotches. Then for fresh pastries, sandwiches, and gelato, take a casual afternoon break at Steamer's Cafe. Set out to explore Estes Park, starting with Cascades Garden's beautiful butterfly encounter, where guests are invited to help release recently hatched butterflies. Local artists are featured in Stanley Sculpture Garden, and The Parlour Spa offers a way for you to unwind and indulge in some pampering. The majestic Colorado landscape is just the beginning, and at The Stanley you will have an unforgettable time inside as well in the great outdoors.

This was a very great tour by an amazing tour guide. Highly recommend. Worth 25 dollars. Areas that we were taken were stunning. If a room is available, I would definitely book it as soon as possible. Thank You Abbey for the tour.

Our reservation was screwed up from the start! Clearly a lack of effective communication among staff! What was supposed to be a fun anniversary stay was just stressful! Staff tried to rectify the situation, but we were still dealing with issues well after we left. So...a get away planned to "get away" was just a mess, and definitely not relaxing! When booking online for the Stanley hotel experience be aware that you may not stay in the hotel at all, but another property across the road from the hotel. Why book with the Stanley hotel when you don't stay in the actual hotel? Best bet is to call the hotel and deal with one person, and get all the details, because they certainly don't talk to each other!

We came here for lunch, June 2016, had a wonderful lunch and sat on the porch afterwards to enjoy the view. Back again this year in our motorhome and were looking forward to doing the same. As we pulled up to the hotel the guard at the gate asked us why we were there and, we told him we were there to have lunch. He said "That will be $10 for parking"!! When we told him we didn't pay for parking last year he said "This is new, starting today for summer." We had such a good time last year we were willing to pay the $10 but, very disappointed that we had to do so. Once in the dining room, we discovered the menu to be not only SPARCE but, expensive! We each ordered the BBQ sandwich and paid $14.00 for it!! Yes, it came with fries but nothing else. Truly, something you would pay $9-10 for anywhere else. So in other words, we paid $58.00 with tax, tip and parking for a mediocre lunch!!! The hotel seemed run down from the year before. We were very disappointed and will never go back.

If you stay at The Stanley, you're there for the feeling you get from those who have lived or worked there in the past. True, the welcoming committee at the front desk could be a bit friendlier & more welcoming but our experience was memorable! We'd visit again & enjoy the ambience of the history of the hotel. Andrew (our ghost tour guide) was entertaining & full of facts so kudos to him! We seemed to have a visitor in our room during our stay & although people don't always appreciate this, the child like entity was memorable & comforting.

I read the fabulous reviews of the Stanley and thought "this place sounds amazing". Maybe it's just me and I have high expectations, but this hotel is in desperate need of a face lift. The parking lot has potholes the dept of Lake Superior, the front step was falling off and sectioned off with orange cones, the grand stairs and hallways desperately needed to be vacuumed, the carpets were torn and buckling, one washcloth in the bathroom, and the TV in our room didn't work until maintenance came to fix it. That doesn't sound like the luxury experience the tout themselves to be. There's no counter space in the bathroom, so forget about putting your things out. We had to use the window sill to hold our toothpaste and toothbrushes. Also, they have constant tours so the parking is limited. Maybe they should designate spaces for those who are staying at the hotel? Hey, if you like this type of "historic" hotel, then go ahead and book away. For me, it was an experience and I won't be back.
