Reviews for The Stanley Hotel

Very Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

This was the most disappointing stay we’ve had in a very long time. Paid extra for a better room and from the time we pulled in it was a let down. Very poor or lack of signage to even understand where the check in is. Ourselves and multiple other folks were doing the same thing as us which was walking around the parking lot and buildings trying to figure out where check in was. Once we found it, we checked in and were given room 240. The room directly next to the room they do the Seance experience in every night at 9PM. No, the walls are not sound proof! Having had a long day it would’ve been nice to not have to hear a production going on in the room next to us. Additionally, this is the room directly across from the elevator and right outside doors they ask you to close gently. We were woken about every 15 minutes from 10pm until 2am by either people coming off the elevator or someone slamming the door to the rooms not next to the Seance room. For the cost, you’d think the bathroom blind could be replaced or even the window sealed a bit better for the AC unit. Also, despite having blinds right outside our windows are the huge uplighting lights that are on ALL night. They lit up the room like we had the lights on. Upon checkout I expressed my concern to which I was just told “oh sorry, well you’re all done here”. Very disappointed in the quality of the stay for the price we paid.

Spooky experience

We stayed in the Cowboy Suite for one night. The hotel is very eerie and nostalgic. I think it is a good stay for those who want to experience The Stanley and have an interest in paranormal. The room and bathroom were very clean. We experienced a lot of static energy on the 4th floor, but nothing too paranormal. However, when we were leaving in the morning we walked out with our bags, said goodbye to the ghosts and 2 empty beverage cans flew off the desk. Worth the price for us.

Expected a lot but this place was awful

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This is a beautiful building but that is it. This is one of the worst managed hotels we've ever stayed in. There are constant tours. The rooms are tiny despite high prices. We could hear different sets of neighbors having sex and arguing. The renovations of bathrooms have not been done thoughtfully. The restaurant food is overpriced for the quality. Wrote hotel management privately to articulate concerns and never heard back - they clearly do not care about customers or building loyalty. We will never stay here again. The one nice thing was the pool and spa - although you have to pay extra just to use the pool.

Redrum (the Shining) + Dumb & Dumber

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

From movie nostalgia ( Dumb & Dumber and of course The Shining), to ghost stories (multiple sighting and shows hunting them) to just a beautiful and historical Hotel that you can stay at; there's something for everyone. Even a gift shop as soon as you walk in, a restaurant on main floor, a café, chocolate shop and 3 different tours that run downstairs

Far scarier things than ghosts...like frozen pipes and non-existent customer service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The hotel façade and grounds itself are breathtaking, exactly what you'd imagine. So come visit, take a few picture, do their tours, and that's it. I would not recommend staying the night at all - there are far scarier things than ghosts in the hotel! We were a group 2 families with 6 people total, and had rented the 3-bedroom Presidential Cottage for one-night. Given the $600+ price tag, this was all we could afford, as we wanted the experience of staying at the famed hotel. The cottage itself is steps from the main building and beautifully presented. This is where the positive ends. In the cottage itself, NOTHING worked. The main TV did not work (we didn't try the ones in the bedrooms), the Keurig did not work, the hair dryer did not work, the AC/heating was unable to regulate the upstairs where 2 of the 3 bedrooms are located so we were either freezing or sweating all night. The worst part was the teeny-tiny boxy upstairs bathroom where the shower pipes were frozen solid so ALL 6 of us were forced to share the 1 (opulent) ensuite bathroom downstairs. To add insult to injury, when we informed the night manager of all the issues, he said there was nothing he could do until the day manager returned, and sent us off with a hair dryer and a keurig back to our room. The next day, at check out, the front desk was already aware of our issues and said that the (still absent) Day Manager would be giving me a call to discuss the issues as they acknowledged it was an unacceptable, unpleasant experience. I waited to write this review to see what would be the outcome of the call, but 1 week later and I've yet to hear from the Day Manager or anyone else. Absolutely atrocious given the price tag. We stayed another night at a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom chalet down the road for a fraction of the price and a much, much better experience with all working appliances and great customer service. Unfortunately fame and legacy alone will not be able to keep this place going.
