Overall OK experience but poor concierge manners and late breakfast opening.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

So first of all, we had an OK stay at Hotel Palácio in Estoril. We booked a golfing package and had a few intense golf rounds at the local golf course. Clean rooms and room service was fine. They breakfast was good (when it was open) and the spa facility is enjoyable. Some of the feedback points: 1. Late breakfast opening. We had double rounds for each day booked, meaning we had 1 early tee-time and 1 in the afternoon. The early tee-time being around 8.30. As the breakfast opens at 07.30 and there are only shuttle-bus starting at 8 am, there was no room for any relaxing breakfast in the morning, nor any warm-up. I find it a bit strange as having many golf guests, the breakfast didn't open any earlier. It should be mentioned, there was an early bird breakfast (which was out all night), but it was dry bread with some jam and that was it. Considering the cost for the hotel, I find this unacceptable. We talked to the staff, but there was nothing that could be arranged. A good advice is to keep your tee times late so you have time to enjoy breakfast. 2. Poor concierge manners. We had a very unpleasant interaction with one of the main staff working in the concierge. His hospitality was non-existent. As we we're a group of younger guys, he didn't seem to give us any respect at all. But, he was very polite towards an elderly group of golfers around. We're a very calm and relaxed group of "youngsters" and doesn't act like the "youngsters" you could imagine. The shuttle bus doesn't go any longer than to 7 p.m. at night, but we managed to get the guy driving the shuttle bus to pick us up around 7.30 at one occasion. This same concierge manager told off the guy, being nice and coming to pick us up even though they didn't drive any longer, when we arrived at the hotel right infront of us. I'm sure it would have been fine if we were 20 years older.. For whatever reason, one of our group members, asked the same concierge manager for advice regarding restaurants. This recommendation was overpriced and for sure the worst we had during our whole stay - makes us suspicious whether they have an agreement together. 3. We did not get informed there was a spa in the building, barely any signs about it. One of us came across it online, which is why we discovered it. Maybe this one could be us to blame ourselves, but a good hospitality business keeps guests informed of their facility etc.

Class, Luxery, Location!

Spent 7 nights at the beautiful Palacio Estoril Hotel. Fabulous! Classy! Luxurious!! Had a beautiful suite overlooking the pool and on to the ocean. Service was absolutely impeccable...It was a delight to see familiar faces after a nearly 5 year absence...in concierge, doormen, staff in the dining room every morning. Mustn't forget the housekeeping staff who were so very helpful as well. The golf course was beautiful.snd all staff went out of their way to assist. Finally, the location is perfect. Two blocks to beach and the boardwalk...and a lovely 15 min walk to Cascais... Thank you ALL (I don't have everyone's names) for a beautiful beginning of our Portugal golf adventure, The Stones from California

Fantastic hotel

A really lovely stay at a fantastic hotel. The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond to help. The facilities are great and as described. Great pool outside and location is handy to walk along the beach to restuarants etc. Couldn’t recommend more, only wish that we’d stayed for longer!

Regardless of when we visit, the Hotel Palacio Estoril will be the only place we stay on future trips to Portugal!

our days. Housekeeping and restaurant staff spared no effort to make us feel like we were the most important guests on the grounds. Regardless of when we visit, the Hotel Palacio Estoril will be the only place we stay on future trips to Portugal!   I can’t begin to describe how exceptional our stay was - we came as guests and depart feeling like we’re leaving family. The staff delivered on a scale which far exceeded our expectations! Charming and palatial are truly understatements here, while there was a mere modicum of availability at the spa, the hotel staff were absolutely remarkable and the lengths they went to for us will leave a lasting impression for our lifetime. Mr Jose Diogo and Marco are the quintessential epitome of the class and countenance concierges all over the world should emulate - never imagined that caliber of service at any of the 5-star hotels we’ve stayed at in the past. Tiago ensured our every need was met during our four day stay - service was world class and we appreciated his attention to detail! Mr. Jose Afonso our doorman exuded charm each and everyday. Wilson ensured our time at the pool was first rate and was kind enough to check in on us throughout our days. Housekeeping and restaurant staff spared no effort to make us feel like we were the most important guests on the grounds. Regardless of when we visit, the Hotel Palacio Estoril will be the only place we stay on future trips to Portugal!

NOT A FIVE STAR

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We have enjoyed many previous stays since 2012, this wasn't one of them. If they offer you room 401 take your money back and run to the Hotel Miragem down the road... it's the room they would give to the hotel brokers (ie next to the lift, pokey and with the cleaner's station in between). I agree with the previous review as regards its rating - NOT a five star (and we only do boutiques and 5 star). Apart from Marta, managing the breakfast room, all the quality staff have gone. Their replacements are patrronising and fairly stupid. A very unpleasant experience not to be repeated.
