Riad Fes, Relais & Chateaux in Fes, Morocco
Strategically located just 25 minutes from Fès Airport, the Riad Fès exudes an air of refined serenity amid the bustle of the city. A perfect example of Hispanic-Moorish architecture, the stylish hotel is arranged around four distinct patios. Ornate courtyards ranging from sober baroque to dazzling mosaic patterns and an impressive Fassi lamp flanked by artfully carved stucco arches fuse Andalusian whimsy with age-old Moroccan design. Begin your day on the rooftop terrace with a panoramic view of the Medina with its minarets against blue skies and the gentle green curves of the Atlas Mountains beyond. All 30 rooms are individually decked out in sumptuous textiles and warm-hued wooden furnishings. Filigreed bedside lamps next to traditionally carved or tufted precious cloth headboards reflect meticulous attention to detail, enhanced by must-have modern amenities such as air conditioning, flat-screen satellite televisions, and elegant Tadelakt or Italian Carrara marble bathrooms with plush bathrobes and slippers. The Riad Fés beckons you to relax in lavish oriental style at its Spa by Cinq Mondes. Unwind by the outdoor pool, in the cleansing steam of the Hammam or take that much-needed time-out and book a pampering massage.
Cuisine at the Riad Fés equals the sophistication and exclusivity of its surroundings. Secure a seat on the patio near the reflecting pool at L'Ambre restaurant. Serenaded by the tinkling fountains and soft sounds of traditional music, feast on a modern interpretation of fine Moroccan cuisine such as pastille of pigeon and shrimp tajine. You do not need to leave the hotel in search of a nightcap. Instead, retreat to trendy L'Alcazar Bar located on the Andalusian Patio, which is reminiscent of the Alhambra. For oenophiles, the Riad Fés houses a Wine Bar featuring a comprehensive selection of exquisite Moroccan vintages. If you are looking to take home more than store-bought souvenirs, partake in a Moroccan cooking class hosted by the hotel's chef. Before learning how to assemble a delectable three-course meal, follow your instructor to the town's busy souks to pick the best and freshest ingredients. No matter how you choose to spend your time, each experience is certain to be special at the Riad Fés.

Reviews for Riad Fes, Relais & Chateaux
I gave them a four star because I kept finding room for improvement. Details are lacking, the rooms were a little run down in my onion. Ask to see a variety of rooms before you settle on yours, there may just be a perfect one waiting for you..

Riad Fes reveals a treasure at every turn. So many staircases to follow and hidden treasures to find. I stayed with a group and saw at least 5 different rooms - all very different but all gorgeously styled. The rooftop terrace was a perfect spot for dinner and drinks after a long day and the outdoor pool on ground floor was beautifully maintained and very tranquil. Breakfast was superb with Western and French-inspired Moroccan offerings. Would definitely return should the opportunity present.

We loved our stay at Riad Fes. the staff was friendly, helpful and very courteous. We ended up chilling on the rooftop everyday after walking around Fes the whole day. We have only two complains - the wifi was terrible and limited menu options. Overall stay was amazing and definitely recommend.

After arriving from the Sahara with a boyfriend that couldn't keep anything down I would expect a hotel of this rating to be more accommodating. The first person who welcomed us into the hotel explained that they couldn't check us in right as another couple had arrived first. While normally I would understand that, the other couple wasn't throwing up every 20 minutes which I doubted they wanted in their lobby. I pulled out my bossy American side to get checked in for some privacy. Beyond that service was acceptable at the hotel. Service was slow and we were often forgotten through room service or the restaurant. We booked a guide through the hotel who arrived 40 minutes late. While not directly the hotels fault, it would have been nice to have some communication. The night concierge was apologetic about it and wonderful all around. Everyone else seemed not to care. The rooftop bar was the reason we booked this hotel over others and it was worth it. Probably wouldn't stay again however.
The Riad Fes has some wonderful things about it which include beautiful décor and stunning common areas and an excellent restaurant. The hotel also has a spectacular rooftop terrace and bar with wonderful views of Fes and the Medina. However, there were many very disappointing things about our stay. The service mentality we experienced from almost all of the staff was one of indifference and was inconsistent with other hotels in the Relais & Chateaux hotel network. Whenever we asked for something to be addressed, it was eventually, but the 5 star service mentality and sense of urgency was definitely lacking. Moreover, our room had locks on the door that were very challenging to open in part because the door was located in a dark stairwell. I felt like I needed a tutorial on how to open the door. Additionally, we had an executive suite which was a large uninteresting single room with very high ceilings and not really a suite. It had one heating and air conditioning unit located high on the wall adjacent to our bed and the unit was difficult to adjust and provided inconsistent temperature control. The bathroom was also quite large and very cold. It was hard to make the bathroom warmer which made me very cold after showering. The shower was absolutely terrible with poor water pressure and a handheld overhead shower which was impossible to maintain in a proper position for a consistent water spray. Additionally, the shutters over our windows let in a lot of early morning light making it difficult to sleep late. All in all a 2.5 to 3 star experience in a beautiful 5 star setting. I do not recommend this hotel and would not return.
