Riad Fes, Relais & Chateaux in Fes, Morocco

Strategically located just 25 minutes from Fès Airport, the Riad Fès exudes an air of refined serenity amid the bustle of the city. A perfect example of Hispanic-Moorish architecture, the stylish hotel is arranged around four distinct patios. Ornate courtyards ranging from sober baroque to dazzling mosaic patterns and an impressive Fassi lamp flanked by artfully carved stucco arches fuse Andalusian whimsy with age-old Moroccan design. Begin your day on the rooftop terrace with a panoramic view of the Medina with its minarets against blue skies and the gentle green curves of the Atlas Mountains beyond. All 30 rooms are individually decked out in sumptuous textiles and warm-hued wooden furnishings. Filigreed bedside lamps next to traditionally carved or tufted precious cloth headboards reflect meticulous attention to detail, enhanced by must-have modern amenities such as air conditioning, flat-screen satellite televisions, and elegant Tadelakt or Italian Carrara marble bathrooms with plush bathrobes and slippers. The Riad Fés beckons you to relax in lavish oriental style at its Spa by Cinq Mondes. Unwind by the outdoor pool, in the cleansing steam of the Hammam or take that much-needed time-out and book a pampering massage.

Cuisine at the Riad Fés equals the sophistication and exclusivity of its surroundings. Secure a seat on the patio near the reflecting pool at L'Ambre restaurant. Serenaded by the tinkling fountains and soft sounds of traditional music, feast on a modern interpretation of fine Moroccan cuisine such as pastille of pigeon and shrimp tajine. You do not need to leave the hotel in search of a nightcap. Instead, retreat to trendy L'Alcazar Bar located on the Andalusian Patio, which is reminiscent of the Alhambra. For oenophiles, the Riad Fés houses a Wine Bar featuring a comprehensive selection of exquisite Moroccan vintages. If you are looking to take home more than store-bought souvenirs, partake in a Moroccan cooking class hosted by the hotel's chef. Before learning how to assemble a delectable three-course meal, follow your instructor to the town's busy souks to pick the best and freshest ingredients. No matter how you choose to spend your time, each experience is certain to be special at the Riad Fés.

This is a really interesting place. It’s been open 12 years and is a series of houses connected. Each room is different. Not all upstairs rooms have elevator access so if you don’t want stairs note it in reservation ..the staff is fabulous and so helpful and friendly—they are the epitome of hospitality. And do have dinner there—it was one of our favorite meals in Fes

Just spent 2 nights at this beautiful riad and can highly recommend - such a beautiful and well preserved/renovated building. You can just switch off and relax in comfort. Apart from that all the staff we interacted with were superb - courteous, professional, super helpful. We are returning in a couple of weeks at the end of our Morocco trip and am very much looking forward to finishing our journey there. Classic Moroccan ambience.

After hearing so many rave reviews about this hotel, its hype did not quite live up to the expectations. The hotel lobby is quite ravishing in its design, but the front desk service at check-in left us with a slightly bitter taste in our mouths. We stayed in the Sultan suite. The room was decorated in traditional Moroccan design with a little western flair and had its own walk-out shared terrace with beautiful medina views. However, the bathroom was overall a large disappointment, very cramped design with sub-par bathroom fixtures and a shower door that got stuck on night one which almost resulted in us having to call down for assistance. The restaurant had a modern flair which did not quite match the more traditional decor of the remaining hotel. The food was reasonable, and they had both Moroccan and international choices. We had heard that the Sky Bar was simply amazing but due to poor weather we were unable to take advantage of this.

Great escape from the busy streets of Fes, staff extremely helpful. Perfect for a quiet dinner, and the architecture of the building is really beautiful. Selection of European food available, as well as Moroccan beers and wine

What a great hotel--especially for first-time travelers to Morocco. It was the perfect place for my husband and me to begin our trip. Riad Fes introduced us to both the Moroccan peoples' kindness and courtesy and to beautiful Moroccan architecture. (FYI, a riad is a traditional Moroccan house featuring an interior garden. From the outside, a riad doesn't look particularly appealing, because all the beauty is inside. Once you enter a riad, you will find a beautifully decorated opened-ceiling inner courtyard as well as a lovely garden.) Riad Fes, as one of the premier hotels in Morocco, showcases some of the most beautiful interior spaces we saw on our trip. I'd like to give a special thank you to Herald Maiau, the head of the kitchen/dining room. He made us feel immediately at home, helped us select the right dishes to order, was very comfortable in advising me what foods to eat (I have celiac disease) and generally made us feel that we had a friend in Fes. The restaurant at the Riad is regarded as one of the best in the city, so if you're tired at the end of your day of sightseeing, eat at the restaurant. You'll thank me and Herald. In general, I found Riad Fes just about perfect. The only negatives, were the elevator--a true relic from another age and the gym. The gym is hard to get to and not well taken care of. A little TLC would help a lot.
