Hotel Helvetia & Bristol in Florence, Italy

Set in the center of Florence, the fantastic Hotel Helvetia & Bristol is an essential component of the city's magnificent architectural history. This restored building retains a period feel in rooms awash in lush silks, figured-tile flooring and 17th-century Florentine paintings. Visit the Hostaria Bibendum restaurant, where Chef Roberto Cordisco deliciously interprets Tuscan cuisine, while the sweeping windows of the fifth floor suite make guests feel as if the Duomo is right in their own back yard.

When it comes to exploring the city, there is no better place to begin than at this popular gathering place for artists, celebrities and aristocracy. Pay a visit to the renowned Uffizi Gallery, take in Michelangelo's wondrous statue of David, shop on the Via Dei Tornabuoni, and wander picturesque streets that have changed little since the 15th century. Sunsets are a particular delight, especially when paired with a view of the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River.

Rooms well appointed lacked outlets and the three in the room were very very difficult to get to... should have a topper when putting beds together so it's not just two single beds slid together... staff very nice and occomodating... restaurant buffet was ok nothing special and very difficult to get coffee as they limit their staff... internet service was good but very inconvenient as you had to constantly sign in if you left the building and after being inside for more than 8hours...asked for iron and took literally over an hour to get one then it blew the fuse and no lights..with all this said, we would have no problem staying here again... location in the high end district and close to everything

The hotel is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. The room we had specially the bathroom was so small you could barely move. When we got there taking a shower, the pipes were blocked we had to call house keeping to open the pipes. The facets are so old you have to turn it a few times to get the water running. We had bugs in the bed that kept biting us. We alerted the manger, he asked the house keeping to put a plug-in to deter the flies, however they forgot to spray the room. We got to the room late and had to ask the house keeping again to spray the room. They did and as a result we coughed all night and could not sleep the whole night. We told the manager and asked to credit a night of stay. She said since we prepaid she couldn’t do anything. We called Expedia and she told them that she has offered compensation which was a cup of coffee!? There is no such a thing as taking care of customers in this hotel and now we have to go through the credit card company to get a credit. I will never prepay any other room as it is always a lose-lose specially in Italy. There is no customer service. The breakfast was ok, manager was constantly looking at his watch to close the buffet. I wouldn’t go back and would not use Starhotels in any of my future stays. They don’t know the meaning of service. Another thing about this hotel is the amount of noice from outside. You can’t get a good night sleep. The location however was great.

This charming hotel, ideally located in Florence, is a gem. The Staff did everything to insure our comfort and enjoyment of the city (we are a group of 13). ELENA in reservations went beyond securing our rooms; she made sure the staff clearly understood our needs. CARLO is a Concierge who doesn't know the word NO! He always looked for a solution to our requests with efficiency and ease. And the BREAKFAST STAFF .... Andrea, Rina, Rebekah and Alessandro created a relaxing morning environment to start the day with a delicious meal, enhanced by a very attentive and caring group of people.

This hotel is located in a great part of the city with everything in walking distance. Across from Cartier and close to the Doumo and Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Incredible breakfast is included with the nicely pointed rooms with generous amenities. Full bar and great lounge with a wood fireplace. Super great service and pleasant staff who go out of their way to ensure your stay is pleasant.

I have I realised been coming to Florence for over 35 years, first as a student like so many ! Used to walk past this Hotel and dream if one day staying there - well I did it and it was as Civilized as I thought it would e all those years ago......BEFORE Air-con,and Wi-fi - both of which worked superbly........I shall return.
