Hotel Helvetia & Bristol in Florence, Italy

Set in the center of Florence, the fantastic Hotel Helvetia & Bristol is an essential component of the city's magnificent architectural history. This restored building retains a period feel in rooms awash in lush silks, figured-tile flooring and 17th-century Florentine paintings. Visit the Hostaria Bibendum restaurant, where Chef Roberto Cordisco deliciously interprets Tuscan cuisine, while the sweeping windows of the fifth floor suite make guests feel as if the Duomo is right in their own back yard.

When it comes to exploring the city, there is no better place to begin than at this popular gathering place for artists, celebrities and aristocracy. Pay a visit to the renowned Uffizi Gallery, take in Michelangelo's wondrous statue of David, shop on the Via Dei Tornabuoni, and wander picturesque streets that have changed little since the 15th century. Sunsets are a particular delight, especially when paired with a view of the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River.

I cannot say enough good things about the mgmt team at the Helvetia & Bristol hotel. Always available to assist with reservations, transportation and recommendations. Upgraded us to a suite, nice basket of fruit in the room and a smile on every request. On top of that, unfortunately I got quite ill my last night at the property. They called me a doctor who arrived in sixty minutes, pointed my wife to a pharmacy three blocks away and extended our stay for a night without question. They checked on me several times during the day and thankfully I had a quick recovery. Yes, the hotel is a little more traditional in its furnishings but the location is perfect and the staff can't be beat!

Worst experience ever The cleaning staff stole during the turn down service a a very expensive watch and belt that where left in the room . In the morning we talked to the manager, who rudely dismissed our claims stating that they couldn't find the missing things in our rooms. (Which was obvious because they had been stolen). Also, due to our short stay in Florence we had no time to file a formal complaint to the police. Apart from the theft, the rooms are dark and extremely hot because the AC is basically non existent. Great location but not worth it.

Room was lovely and well appointed. I was traveling with two teenagers and we had a junior suite with three beds which worked very well. I thought the staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good. We all really enjoyed our stay here.

This hotel, very centrally located, has an elegant appearance and the breakfast buffet was excellent. Our bed and bed linens were very comfortable. However, we found the decor too dark, since it's done to resemble an antique hotel. The bedroom had dark wallpaper. Our room and bathroom were pretty small. There are no views from this hotel, no spa or pool, no garden or nice area to sit outside. The restaurant has some outdoor tables but they are right next to the street, so it didn't look too appealing. The front desk staff was so-so. There was one friendly person, the others not so much. This was our time in Florence, so maybe this is a typical hotel.

It's been a few years since my last visit to this lovely hotel. This time I had a junior suite with a jacuzzi. It was delightful. For breakfast they served the best poached pear and a perfect selection of other possibilities. Service is immaculate, what else could you require?
