Hotel Helvetia & Bristol in Florence, Italy
Set in the center of Florence, the fantastic Hotel Helvetia & Bristol is an essential component of the city's magnificent architectural history. This restored building retains a period feel in rooms awash in lush silks, figured-tile flooring and 17th-century Florentine paintings. Visit the Hostaria Bibendum restaurant, where Chef Roberto Cordisco deliciously interprets Tuscan cuisine, while the sweeping windows of the fifth floor suite make guests feel as if the Duomo is right in their own back yard.
When it comes to exploring the city, there is no better place to begin than at this popular gathering place for artists, celebrities and aristocracy. Pay a visit to the renowned Uffizi Gallery, take in Michelangelo's wondrous statue of David, shop on the Via Dei Tornabuoni, and wander picturesque streets that have changed little since the 15th century. Sunsets are a particular delight, especially when paired with a view of the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River.

Reviews for Hotel Helvetia & Bristol
This is an incredibly charming hotel in the center of Florence and we couldn't be any happier about the accommodations. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. The lobbies are comfortable for relaxing and having a drink or snack. The rooms are spacious enough with elegant, marble bathrooms. they are not huge rooms but they are very cozy and have plenty of space for comfort. The shades are black-out, so if you want to sleep late, it's great. Basically the rooms are very well appointed and there are no hassles whatsoever. A hidden gem is the hotel restaurant where we have enjoyed our lunch twice, even though there are many hundreds of choices. We highly recommend this hotel and restaurant.

If it helps readers at all: we went back. Back this beautiful property where even the most basic room choice will create indelible memories of one of the world's great cities, from the most personal of touches to the service gestures from start to finish. Living like royalty for less than you'd ever imagine. They say you can't go home. And choosing to stay again at the Helvetia we thought hmmm, maybe it won't live up to the last experience (one about which I wrote/gushed on a blog posting a few years back)....ha! they said - come back, it's better than ever. And they were right. And, tellingly, the experience surpassed our stay a short while before in a riverside room on the banks of the Arno. And for those who like hearing about things practical in reviews: we had an issue with our room a/c, and without staff and management missing a beat we were switched a a room that, even though we were only in Florence for one night, again, as before at this hotel, was a memorable, unforgettable highlight of our time in Tuscany. And further on the practicality front: be sure to reserve for the hotel's restaurant for dinner if at all possible in you schedule. And the breakfast a la carte selections are excellently done.

A well located, well maintained hotel in central Florence. Old fashioned, but pleasant surroundings, good service-sometimes excellent, a useful business center. Hotel is a block from main shopping street, Via Tornabuoni, and a short walk to Uffizi or railroad station.

The overall experience is comparable to a 4.5 - 5 star hotel in North America: The staff is super helpful, rooms are large and well appointed and major tourist attractions are within walking distance. The breakfast buffet was quite good too.
This hotel has a great location. 5 min walk to Piazza della repubblica, and @ 10 min walk to Piazza della signoria, Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo. The hotel was beautiful, our room was lovely. The breakfast room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The only cautions are that it's on a side street, so leave extra time if you need to call a taxi. And if your room faces the front, the street is very loud at night (the hotel provides ear plugs on your nightstand for this reason).
