Incredible!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Incredible boutique hotel! The staff was simply extraordinary. The buffet breakfast was excellent. The historic building and furnishings were beautiful. The hotel is in a quiet residential area across the street from a park, but easily walkable to all of the major attractions. When we wanted a taxi, we never waited longer than a few minutes after the concierge called for one. It was really nice to be away from the crowds but still very walkable. The staff set up an extra bed for a few nights so our daughter, who is living in Florence for the semester, could stay with us. I can’t say enough good things about the Hotel Regency. My wife and I loved it!

An Excellent Stay

We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Regency in Florence. The hotel and rooms are very much as pictured – elegant and refined. Clear difference was the service, which was just exceptional. The hotel is located on a quiet street, across from the Piazza D'Azeglio, a beautiful neighborhood park. The hotel is about a block from the Four Seasons Florence and a block from the Great Synagogue. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the Academia, Doumo and most of the other tourist attractions. That was a real positive for us as we felt we were in a local neighborhood and not in tourist central. We changed our booking from another hotel to the Hotel Regency and were only able to book the superior sized rooms. Despite them being the smallest room category, we still found them to be quite comfortable. There was more than enough room to open up two large sized suitcases, plenty of space to walk around the beds and still there was a small side table with two chairs. While the bathrooms seem to have original fixtures (looked to be 50-75 years old), they are remarkedly well maintained. The marble is beautiful and it’s clear the hotel emphasizes maintenance and upkeep. Breakfast is served each morning in a small sitting room or can be taken in the beautiful garden. The garden is quiet and gorgeous, but beware the birds are aggressive. The hotel staff is very active in trying to shoo away the birds, but it’s often with limited success. Instead, we preferred to eat inside most mornings. The food is a typical Italian continental breakfast (fruits, pastries, cured meats, cheeses, breads, juices) and then the additional scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon. Coffee, tea and juice are brought directly to the table. Everything is very high quality and tasty. I will note that over our 4 days at the hotel there wasn’t any change to the buffett, so I could see it getting boring after a while. I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the excellent service we received at the hotel. The concierge (doubles as front desk) helped arrange tickets for art galleries, tours, restaurants and Manuel at breakfast was always very helpful. Considerations: There is no gym at the hotel. The hotel did offer use (I believe it was at a small nominal charge) at a nearby facility. Additionally, there is no pool at the hotel, which given the scorching heat, would have been welcome. All in all, we would absolutely return to the hotel. It was a lovely location while totally accessible to any part of Florence. The service was impeccable and we had no complaints over our 4 days at the hotel.

Wonderful home away from home!

Great hotel! We had the most wonderful stay in Hotel Regency. Such warm welcoming staff, beautiful room, comfortable beds, perfect location and great breakfast. We had our room in the annex which was absolutely wonderful! Clean, modern, spacious. I do think the rooms in the main building are a bit dated but our room was perfect! Milo, Alice and of course the lovely Massimo were so welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay and this made our vacation just perfect !

Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

The hotel is in a quiet residential area about 15 minutes walk from the main historical attractions and galleries with local bars and restaurants a short walk away. Check in was dealt with quickly and efficiently by friendly staff. Room - we booked a deluxe room and was taken to our room the annexe. The room had no chest of drawers or shelf space with two tiny wardrobes either side of the bed hence no bedside cabinets but a ledge behind. No idea how you access the ledge when lying in bed. Also no mirror in the bedroom and a tiny bathroom. After expressing our dissatisfaction we were shown another room in the main part of the hotel. It was better but still bore little resemblance to the rooms on the hotel website. The room was dark with the only natural light coming from a patio door. It was made worse by a brown painted ceiling and dark floor. The lighting was poor with no ceiling lights. The bathroom was large with a shower over a narrow bath with not much by way of a flat base to stand on and no grab rails so didn't feel safe. Also hard to figure out bath / shower controls. The lights were bright - bit too bright when using it in the night as no low level night light. Basically the room / bathroom were not female friendly - bathrobe was XL size as were slippers . No mirror in the bedroom and the bathroom one steamed up after a shower. Nowhere to sit in front of a mirror to do hair/ makeup. Food - breakfast buffet had a good choice but was nothing special. We ate in the restaurant one evening. Despite being the only diners we had to wait ages for our food and the portion sizes were tiny. The quality was also not the gourmet standard we were expecting. We didn't stay for dessert and instead headed to a local wine bar for some food to fill us up. The patio courtyard is a good place to chill out with a coffee but even during the day we got bitten by insects so needed repellent. The hotel has no bar but drinks can be taken in the lounge. I found the scented diffusers overpowering so we headed to the nearby Four Seasons hotel for drinks instead. The staff at reception and housekeepers with helpful and friendly, quickly topping up our supplies of tea and extra hangers. We also appreciated the complimentary bottle of fizz on my partner's birthday. We wanted a small luxury hotel as celebrating my partner's birthday but we were disappointed in the hotel and felt it did not offer value for money. I would not return.

Beautiful and luxurious hotel!

Excellent hotel on a quiet street outside of the busy city center in Florence. The hotel is beautiful, luxurious, and has one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. It is about a 10 minute walk to the central areas in Florence. The rooms and service were luxurious.
