We recently returned from a wonderful family trip to Florence which was greatly enhanced by our stay at the Portrait Hotel. The sheer beauty and elegance of the lobby and the ideal location of the hotel were both breathtaking. The Portrait is right on the water and also walking distance to almost every important site in Florence. The staff is five star from top to bottom. The managers, concierge staff, bellmen and everybody else associated with operations was friendly and eager to satisfy our every need. Leonardo, Francesco and Baha were intimately involved with our daily planning, including, sightseeing and restaurant choices. Their knowledge and warmth was incomparable.. The hotel rooms were beautiful, modern and spotless. My only regret is that they do not have a health club or exercise facility. However, this detail would not deter me from staying at the Portrait next time we are in Florence. It is a beautiful hotel which is operated at the highest level in all respects. We loved our stay at the Portrait.

We wanted a nice boutique hotel in the center of Florence and this was it! Staff was very friendly, helpful with local tips and services. There's also turnover service and personalized hotel options. Near to all Florence attractions and shopping!

Let get this out of the way. The Portrait Firenze is perfectly located, with great attention to detail in the quality of interior decoration, features and furnishings. This is no run of the mill tourist hotel or corporate chain feel - someone renovated this hotel with love, and the impression is excellent. The real motivation for this review, however, is the staff. The level of personal, friendly-yet-professional service was amazing, and from check-in to check-out they went above and beyond to ensure our visit was a success. They understood our requests perfectly, and made amazing recommendations. An outstanding hotel!

The hotel is gorgeous. We had a nice suite with a view of the river. The room was furnished very nicely and we were very comfortable. Small things in the room did not work, like the phones which were out for a day and the water temperature is a little difficult to control, but those are details. The reason I cannot give this hotel 5 stars is that the service is not what you would expect for the price, and not up to par with comparable hotels. The staff is very friendly, but we could not shed the feeling that why were not trained too well. Every time we passed the reception there was different staff, and their seemed to be little coordination. We missed out on a visit to the Duomo altogether because we did not reserve the tickets in advance due to misinformation from the staff, although we asked whether we had to make a reservation the day before twice. We had the feeling they were not really listening to what we were asking, and unfortunately were proven right. We were then sent to the tower of Palazzo Vecchio, which was also closed. A concierge in a five-star hotel would know these things. Also, our room was not made up by 3 pm one day even though we had been out since 9 am. Again, this is a detail, but you are paying hefty prices here and just expect things like this to work. I raised these issues with the manager who took the time to listen and was very apologetic and refunded us the price of the tickets for the museum, which I very much appreciated. I would go back if returning to Florence, but hope they would have the service issues sorted by then.
