The Woodward is a new hotel on the shores of Lake Geneva, offering panoramic views of Mont Blanc. Originally built in 1901 by French architect François Durel, in a post-Haussmann style, the hotel is located on Quai Wilson and is currently being completely transformed and carefully reimagined by world-renowned architect Pierre-Yves Rochon creating Geneva’s first all-suite hotel. With restaurants by Michelin-Starred L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon and vegetable driven Le Jardinier by Alain Verzeroli as well as a 1,200 sq metre Spa Guerlain, The Woodward is truly Geneva’s lakeside home of haute living.

This is by far our favourite European hotel. We are already wondering when to return. From the car collecting you from the airport to that final farewell the team are attentive and caring. This time we opted for a Deluxe suite, which had lovely views over the lake. As always some nice amenities. The first day we had breakfast in the bar as we rose a little later than normal, this was a great new offering from our last visit. Breakfast the second day was a little chaotic, however the team really fixed it for us the next day. We took treatments this time too, as we had a little longer in Geneva, they were amazing too. This by far is our go to European hotel.

Yes, it’s a big statement. But having travelled quite extensively and stayed in some great locations and Hotels, I feel somewhat qualified. We enjoyed 4 nights in a Deluxe suite which was exceptionally comfortable, spacious, quality amenities and extremely well appointed. We arrived late due to flight cancellation which got us to the Hotel after midnight. Cedric checked us in without delay. Once in our room, we found a beautiful balloon display, champagne on ice along with chocolates and fruit - and a personal message wishing us ‘Happy Anniversary’. Wow! The lift deserves mention. To operate you simply tap your room card to call the lift. You are immediately told which lift is coming for you. The lift then takes you to your floor – there are simply no floor buttons and it works seamlessly. Other staff that pampered us and made our stay so memorable – Raphael at breakfast, Max and Celine at dinner, along with Jennifer - Maître d’, and the sensational Thomas - Sommelière, who gave us help choosing, and shared his knowledge of wines.

I felt quite ashame to have this kind of servie in a 5-star hotel in Geneva.... As I arriver, the person at the reception barely said hello and typed on his computer for about a minute before proudly telling my first name....then a second colleague arrived and did the same... They then asked me for my ID, even though I had stayed there before. When I asked why, they said it was their policy to ask for identification for each stay. For information, this is not the case in other five-star hotels in Geneva. I was then driven to my suite: for the price, facing north was not a great surprise. But I was most annoyed at not having my luggage in my room: I had delivered it in the morning, and they had not brought it to the room by 7:00 pm. It then took about half-an hour to bring it. I then ordered room-service. They promised to have it delivered within 20-30 minutes. After 40 minutes, I did a first call, asking when it would arrive. They said 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, I called again, and they said it would arrive soon. It finally took 60'. What is even more interesting it that they bring the (good) food on a fairly high tray. But all the seating options are either a sofa, or a low armchair....therefore very inconvenient to sit! Other than that, the bathroom is very large and nice. The amenities are of good quality. I did not find the sheets and the bed particularly comfortable however. And it was impossible to regulate the temperature on the digital panel (you can move it from -3 to +3, but when putting it on +3 it would stubbornly come back to -3). There was no follow-up on my complaints, which was quite disappointing.

The hallways of the hotel leading to your room are what really wowed me. They are flawless in their finish. Great car and driver picking you up at the train station. Wonderful service and staff. Breakfast in the Resturant was great but room service had many issues on the 3 times we used it. Room looks as new and very clean and I am a very picky guest. It seems like a small private hotel which we loved.

This hotel was nothing short of perfection. Service was incredible! The room and the amenities were wonderful. The room we had was really a small suite. The bathroom including a bath tub and a huge shower was larger than many NYC apartments. Location is right on Lake Geneva. You're treated as though you were a guest in their home. Incredibly, even though the hotel is in a 7-story building taking up half a city block, there are only 24 guest rooms. To say the least, space is generous. While not cheap, this reinforces the adage "you (definitely) get what you pay for. It should make the list of the top hotels in the world!
