Reviews for Gaige House

Beautiful and unique B&B you need to try!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Gaige House is a really cool and unique property unlike any other B&B my wife and I have ever stayed at before! It is really beautiful, has a nice pool, sits next to a pretty creek, serves a very nice breakfast each day and has a nice happy hour each day which includes wines and charcuterie. And even if you never took advantage of these amenities but instead stayed in your room, you would still love this property. Our room had a nice size bedroom/den combination with a fireplace and very comfortable king-size bed, a beautiful and secluded private patio, a glassed in zen garden one one side of the bedroom that has a beautiful bathroom on the other side that also has a glass wall and looks onto the zen garden. The bathroom has the largest tub we have ever seen, and it looks like it is made of black volcanic rock. Next to it is an open 2-head shower that is also great. Four robes are also available in the room along with slippers.

Can’t wait to come back!

We stayed in one of their beautiful ryokan suites and in was pure luxury. Every amenity was perfect and made our stay peaceful and relaxing. From the bamboo lined pathway to our room, to the meditation room and pool, every aspect at Gaige House is designed for comfort and relaxation. The staff was friendly and breakfast was delicious. We’ll be back again.

Japanese luxury in California wine country

The ryokan rooms at Gaige House are incomparably beautiful. It is as if they were designed by Noguchi, right down to the stone bathtub and the fountain in the interior Japanese garden. Can’t recommend highly enough! Of course the hotel also houses lovely common areas, nice breakfast room, easy parking, etc.

Too loud to relax, and every detail left ignored

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

Gaige House: where paint is more of a suggestion; where no detail is too important to ignore; where loud, rattling things go to have their annual convention; where having someone stomp around above you is really an opportunity to enjoy history. Don't worry, though! There's nobody here to help you after 7 PM, so your problems are best dealt with through self-reflection. Oops! The "meditation area" is literally a partially-covered shed-type structure near the lights-on-all-night pool situation. I loved the stream just adjacent, but had a hard time finding peace while staring into the dining room of the house just past the opposite fence. I didn't have much time to contemplate, though, because the adjacent stack of pool equipment kicked into overdrive right on cue. The amenities don't matter: management is so cheap that there are drugstore air cleaners loudly doing their thing in the corner of every common-space room. If your partner wants to turn in early, don't worry: there's a commercial fridge moonlighting as a turbine just down an open staircase from the room you might want to relax in. Odd off-white fixtures that look like sad leftovers of the early 90s are hacked into every surface where they could possibly fit. The mattress that we sleep on at home cost less than a single night of our booking and yet climbing into bed here made me wish for an airport motel. At least there you know what you're getting: quiet, private, and no pretense. This, by the way, was no different in our actual rooms. I've stayed in two rooms here now, one in the original house and one in the new "Japanese-inspired" suites. Both had the same set of issues, but just to give you a sense, in the more expensive room (the suite): - There was a ridiculous in-room AC unit, perched up on some built-in cabinetry, so loud we had to turn it off right away. - We had a lovely-looking iron kettle and tea set, but no tea available in the room for us to brew. - Our room had a small enclosed courtyard, but there were a few low-voltage cable runs cheaply stapled up and down the exterior of the building. - All of the exterior wooden shingles looked like they were five years past due for some upkeep. - The entire "Japanese" area of the property has cheesy music piped into its ourdoor areas... - ... but don't worry, you can still hear what sounds like highway noise from the adjacent road, even though it looks on a map like it is just a neighborhood-level artery. - There was a gorgeous granite bathtub, but the drain valve in it was broken... so they gave us a plastic disc to plug the bottom of the bathtub with. (It was already in the room, and they didn't seem particularly interested when we mentioned it to the folks in the office.) - There were chunks of plaster missing in the bathroom in a way that exposed some framing hardware. - Our other private outdoor area was impossible to enjoy because a large commercial HVAC unit would cycle and off every few minutes, and would produce the kind of noise that only an unmaintained fan can produce when it was on. Staying here reminds me of the worst parts of college shared-living arrangements... but back then, the money we're talking about got me a place to stay for a semester, not for a night.

Amazing stay at Gaige House

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

We had a wonderful stay at Gaige House for our anniversary. Our room must have been upgraded since I booked a king room and we were given a suite, which was an incredibly kind gesture. The suite was AMAZING, we were in room 19, the room was lovely and the view out the window was so peaceful. The hotel grounds are so lovely and we also very much enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. We have been recommending it to friends non-stop since staying there!

I just wanted to let Luxury Link know how pleased we were with our recent stay at Gaige House in Sonoma. The facilities couldn't have been more relaxing and beautiful. The staff was incredibly friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable. Food was delicious (fresh baked muffins every morning and fresh baked cookies in the afternoon and evening - doesn't get much better than that!). And the other guests were easy to meet and talk with. All around perfect experience. Will definitely recommend it to friends and will likely return again next time we're in California.
