We explored North Goa many times however this was our first opportunity to explore South Goa. We found South Goa cleaner- great beaches and cleaner water bodies. Leela was an easy choice as it offered a wide variety of activities to keep the children busy. We choose the Conservatory Premiere room as this was the only room available due to the Easter season. It sufficed our purpose as the room had a small mini bedroom with its own TV. We call it the "Kids Suite" ! It had a private hideout like a mini terrace which was great except the fact that it was too close for comfort to other terraces and we could smell awful cigarette smell which discouraged us to use that area. We didnt mind that at all as we were busy doing other things ! Apart from few misses from The Leela, our stay was a hit !! On arrival @ the Goa airport, we could not find the chauffeur (airport transfer included in the package), so we had to call the hotel. Some nice old gentleman showed up saying that our name was not on the list and arranged a car which I have to tell you smelt a bit awful and looked a bit dirty ! This is an important factor for us as it is a long journey to the property and Unicorn started vomiting due to the stinky car and heat !! At this point I started feeling skeptical about the hotel. Nevertheless, we continued .. Upon arrival at the reception, we were greeted by some cool coconut water which was refreshing. A lady made us feel comfortable and explained the package to us. The package is designed on a meal system versus a voucher system ( Taj Holiday Village @ North Goa offers the vouchers option ) . This option is quite sad for families with kids on holiday wanting to have no structure or routine. The package makes it compulsory for kids to have all meals at the buffet area. You will end up choosing this option as all other options do not make financial sense. Even though you may have wanted to explore the various restaurants at the hotel, this option prohibits you from enjoying them. When your child is charged as a full board, you have no option but to choose the same for yourselves as obviously no parents will let the child dine alone by themselves while they enjoy the restaurants !! So, its a great financial strategy for the hotel however it makes the holiday plan a bit rigid for the families !! I hope they make it more flexible ! A lady apologized for the delay in the hotel transfer. I was not very pleased with the mismanagement however I am a firm believer in giving second chances. We carry our own luggage as a family as we arrived with a backpack each, however, we were surprised that the helper did not even once want to take the bags from us ! Its a five star rated property so some common courtesy is expected from the staff. We were shown our room which was quite nice. The misses were frankly not keeping fruits as promised everyday in the room. We had to ask for them :/ !!! The view from the room was fantastic ! The bathroom was neat and clean however minor changes will make it even better and life easier for the hotel guests ! Example, the door of the shower can be translucent and not transparent. This would allow privacy to the person in the shower when any family member wants to use the tub or the sink or go into the washroom !! It was ridiculous that we had to spend time waiting for each person to finish their shower or try and coordinate. :/ The hotel can provide shower curtain for the bath tub. There was no privacy for the person using the bath tub either !! Most beach hotels we visited provide a retractable clothesline above the bathtub so that we can hang our costumes etc. I found that missing too ! :// One last tip for the hotel would be to count the number of people in the room and accordingly leave toiletries behind while cleaning the room ! The ponds, the flora fauna, golf course, pool area, dining, restaurants, beach area everything -- are very well maintained. The kids spent all day between pool, kids club (great line-up of activities like pizza making, card making etc.), lovely clean beach, cycling about the property (the first 30 mins are free), exploring the property on the golf cart, indoor games (table tennis etc.), an evening at the night club (great music and kids are allowed !!! Its better to go in the first hour to enjoy the music, dance a bit before it gets too crowded !!), a karaoke night and an awesome evening spent with two musicians sitting in the middle of the hotel lobby area singing Indian folk songs. Over all there is no dearth of entertainment. Our time just flew by !! On the eve of Easter, they had a barbeque on the beach which we skipped as we had a flight the next morning. You can even rent out new movie DVDs at no extra cost. The spice garden is worth a visit. It has labelled trees and plants used in India for various health purposes, some geese moving about and great gazebo used for yoga sessions. The buffet options are great except that they do ask you if you need anything specific. So I asked them for two pieces of garlic bread to go with the yummy white sauce vegetable pasta which they confirmed that will get which they eventually did not. What i did not like is they delayed it as much as they could. My food was getting cold. When I reminded the server about it, she asked another person who just told her to serve "Indian Bread" ( YES ! I COULD HEAR THEM !! ). I politely refused it when she served it to me with a smile. I started eating my pasta quietly letting it go. BUT, they chose to get me two pieces of bread with PESTO SAUCE on it ! I just politely told her " If you cant get it, its alright to say - Sorry, we do not have it today ! - But kindly do not embarrass yourselves by doing all this. Of course, they said 'Sorry' . I did not appreciate it at all. :(( Also, if you are a family travelling with kids, please be alert around the pool area. I could believe my eyes on what I was saw over there. I saw a young couple in their twenties coming from the beach area to the pool in their inner wears. The man was wearing a brief --- no NOT SWIMMING BRIEFS ! My son pointed me towards him as he saw the flap uncovered something that should have been seen in a family pool area ! The woman was wearing an overall lingerie with no inner wear at all !! The staff at the pool and the security somehow missed it. I had to point this out. The pool was filled with children of all ages and parents !! We had a pleasant stay overall. Just a few things noteworthy is that the hotel reception knows its a long trip to the airport and the day is hot so they could have definitely offered us some coconut water at the lobby area, if not the adults, at least to the kids. I hope the hotel takes these few pointers in positive light. Goa is always fun no matter what !! So, when in doubt GO GOA !! :)

I with my family was here for 2 nights. The journey with Leela started pretty pleasant initially. I was very much impressed with the hospitality they served. What went wrong was the hygiene negligence I faced. I had given infant feeding accessories for sterilisation. The bottles were smelling bad and the feeding bowl was dirty. I was assured that this would not be repeated again by their in villa dining incharge. But next time I faced the same issue. The grated apples particles were there in the feeding bowl which could cause infection to my child. Please maintain better hygiene . Apart from this stay was pretty comfortable.

After experiencing New Delhi's madness, arriving at this stunning hotel was such a relief. From the moment you arrive you feel relaxed and ready to enjoy a nice holiday. The staff are always smiling, they are so nice and ready to go out of their way to help you out. It wouldn't hurt if the guests would smile back and treat them with respect (I had to add this after witnessing two occasions when some guests were v condescending; just because you are a guest doesn't mean you have to behave like you are the centre of the universe). As we were in Goa, we had to experience eating at the shacks which are very close on the beach. I highly recommend this experience: nice food, lovely atmosphere, with the waves' sound in the background. The food in the hotel was delicious, with plenty of choices for breakfast as well as for dinner. We are so happy we've booked this hotel, everything was just wonderful! Thank you Leela!

We have been to the Leela several times since it first opened some 25 years ago and it has never failed to delight us. Having stayed at many other resorts in Goa, it is the Leela that we keep coming back to. The setting is perfect and right from airport pick-up, the reception, the restaurants, housekeeping, even the gardeners, it is always service with a smile. The property has been meticulously maintained and the beach front continues to remain secluded and uncrowded. It is a large resort though and if the occupancy is high, the common areas like the pool and their main restaurant can become crowded but if you "time it right" you can be sure to have a most enjoyable stay.

Talking about the number of rooms, Leela is by far the biggest resort (not hotel) in Goa. Spread over 76 acres, the best thing about it was the nature created which has been maintained for so many years, though the lagoon is actually manmade. The service was top notch and though a bit expensive, it truly is a luxury resort.
