This is a warning for anyone looking to spend time away at a luxury resort in Grand Bahama. I made a terrible mistake by not only choosing this resort but Grand Bahama Island in general. There is nothing luxury about any of those. I emailed this resort 3 times prior to arriving asking about fishing excursions, etc. that my son (12) and I could take part in. They never responded to any email, this should have been a huge red flag but I didn't think much about it, my mistake. We arrived to notice that the resort is very run down and not well taken care of. The activities they mention on their website for families are a joke... shuffleboard is horrible, broken, etc; kayaks and paddle boards are older than the island itself, they had now fishing equipment to offer: no beach volleyball and the pool is no bigger than the one in back yard. The food is mediocre at best. Here is the capper... I made a DEEP SEA fishing excursion for the next morning and they promised me a brand new 32 foot boat with twin 250's and I got a 16 foot single 125 engine. There was no bench to sit on because it was ripped out thus we had to sit on an igloo cooler. I could have stopped right there and not continued but I did not want to disappoint my son. We did not go DEEP SEA as this boat was not capable of much of anything. The captain was not that much more capable. We caught a few fish, but not much to write home about. They tried to charge me full price ($450) for this trip but I did not pay. I gave the captain $100 and made sure the resort didn't get a penny. Needless to say we were very unhappy and left later that night and went to a different resort in Freeport. The only good thing I have to say is that the GM understood my issues and truly apologized and allowed me to cancel without penalty. I cannot believe people give this place such good reviews, I guess if you own a boat this may be a nice place to anchor but other than that, be very wary of what you are getting into. Finally, know that you are 36 miles, an $80 one way taxi trip to Freeport, there is nothing between you and there, crazy. Again, if you have about, maybe this is a good place, but other than that, good luck!

All I can say is wow. What a gem! Old Bahama Bay is Bahamas personified! We discovered it while cruising around and decided to eat lunch and enjoy refreshments. Howard was the ultimate host and welcomed us with open arms. We enjoyed a conch salad with freshly toasted chips and some delicious chicken wings. Everyone from our charming bartender to the gate attendent were lovely as well as the front desk hostess. Thank you Team Old Bahama Bay!

There are so many positive things about my stay at Old Bahama Bay that it would be impossible to list them all! Everyone on the property is so friendly and I had the greatest stay over the New Years Eve holiday. My room (like all of them) was incredible with a stunning ocean view. I could walk out the door and straight on to the beach - it was incredible! It was so nice being away from it all but also still having great wifi and many tv options. The fireworks on NYE were an added bonus! Had so much fun using all of the free amenities including the bikes, kayaks, paddle board, shuffleboard, and more. Getting some sun in December was fantastic and this was the perfect place to do so!

A place to go for a vacation and beach activities or fishing. A combination of small hotel and Marina at West End Grand Bahama Island. It is a 40 minute ride from the airport - and a little farther from Freeport - so you probably won't want to go back and forth often - a great place to get away with friendly staff.

Old Bahama Bay is a lovely property situated in a picturesque setting on the west end of Grand Bahama Island. The beaches are lovely and the bay north of the resort is home to a healthy sea grass bed with lots of fish and other things to see. There are some maintenance items as listed by others, but for a resort as remote as this one, they have done an excellent job of maintaining the property. The food at the two restaurants was good and while it seems expensive, it is hard to get supplies that far out of Freeport easily. Did I mention that this place is remote?! That's what draws us to it, but it might not be for everyone. Other than the activities offered through the resort, you will be traveling a long distance by cab to get to many activities. But if you're only staying a few days, it's hard to run out of things to do at Old Bahama Bay. My wife and I borrowed bicycles and toured West End down to Paradise Bay and back a good four hour ride filled with Bahamian charm. We used the resorts stand up paddle boards and kayaks, and snorkeled the grasses and rocks north, west and south of the resort as weather and tides allowed. There was lots of stuff to see. The internet is not as reliable as we were led to believe and that someone upset our stay. Work stresses were amplified by the need to sit outside the main office at night to update and reply to email, thus 4 not 5 stars. But if that's not a problem for you, then you'll most likely not even notice the issue. Remote resort with natural splendor, very kind people and peaceful. We will be back.
