We celebrated our birthdays in Grand Rapids and stayed at the Amway Grand Plaza. The hospitality department had a complimentary bottle of Prosecco ready when we got to our room. Corner room had a great view overlooking the river. Nice renovations since it became a Curio Collection.

Our lovely room and beautiful view were amazing. Even though the elevators were close, we never heard them. It was quiet and comfortable. The bars were pricey but the drinks were generous. I left feeling rested and restored.

This hotel is beautiful from the moment you walk in and has a great variety of restaurants, most that are high end. They also have two towering above the city with stunning views at night. The rooms are in good condition and quiet. The main downside last time we stayed were the crazy long waits and long lines (to check-in, to sit for breakfast, to pull into valet, etc) and they had limited HHonors Diamond benefits (no lounge, no designated check-in area, no discounted parking, no free breakfast & no upgrades ... you do get a voucher that can be used for drinks, dinner or breakfast but doesn't cover the full value). Has a very nice indoor pool and great r stair ants including one on the 27th floor with an awesome view. It is a gorgeous hotel but if you are a frequent traveler used to more Hhonors benefits, you won’t get that here.

So I see the Amway is still the Amway but has Curio Collection after it. So I’m guessing it’s been sold and that explains the rotten stay we had. I was here for the Realtors convention. This hotel was terribly under staffed and the existing staff was rude. It’s always a bad sign when you check in and they can’t find your reservation. But let me back up...arriving and trying to park took an hour. Yes. An hour. Knowing that hundreds of people were arriving that day for the start of the convention, you’d think they would have over staffed the valet and front desk. Nope. So after an hour I gave up, parked myself about three blocks away and went late into the convention - leaving my luggage in my car. (It was a special treat to come out later and lug it all the way back to my room.) Anyway, all the restaurants and the hotel were so unprepared for this large group. Which shocks me. Not only this, but the common areas and several of the eating areas were filthy. Service was horrible. The only friendly person was the nice lady that delivered our $80 egg breakfast one morning. It was so great to come back to our room that evening - after we had called that morning to have them remove the room service cart - and find it still there and our room untouched. When we called again to tell them to remove it - we were told to push it down the hall. Then later when we were ready for bed and asked for a delivery to be brought to our room, the front desk refused to do so. We were told “we don’t have any staff to do that.” So after we got dressed again and walked the 1/2 mile to the front desk - when we arrived the front desk person says “yeah what do you want?” Long story short...don’t stay here. The rooms are old and dated. The outlets and WiFi capabilities are lacking. The conference and meeting rooms are not conducive to hearing or seeing well. The eating areas are dirty and under staffed. The staff is rude and parking is a major issue. For the extravagant cost it just isn’t worth it. Stay at the JW next door. They know how to treat a guest properly and their rooms are updated for the modern business traveler. I will not be returning to this hotel ever again.

Where to start...internet didn't work, the people above were stomping on the floor, could hear everyone walking by the door. Parking seemed to be an issue. To expensive for all the problems, not worth during for another trip using them.
