Amway Grand Plaza

Just an awful experience. 1 of the 2 elevators were down. I subsequently took the working elevator and then got trapped inside for ~ 20 minutes. No one came to help, I had to pry the doors open myself. After I told the front desk, they told me I would’ve been held liable to any damage to the door for getting myself out of a broken elevator where the doors wouldn’t open. The bathrooms on main floor were out of order. They wouldn’t turn over the rooms, when asked, they said they were “understaffed” but asked what we needed. Asked for towels and fresh sheets, neither of which were delivered. Horrible experience, useless staff, excuse after excuse. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

This was one of the worst experiences I have had. My room was not cleaned and no linens were brought on the second day. I had to call the front desk to get new bath linens. The man who brought them was very nice, but he didn't want to remove the used bath towels until I insisted. The grout in the shower appears to have black mold. There were very loud automobiles roaring engines and racing up and down in front of the hotel all night on Friday (less so on Saturday but still present.) I complained to the desk on Saturday morning about the loud noises from all the racing cars and was told that it wasn't their concern that it would be up to the police. Apparently, guest's comfort in being able to sleep without loud recurrent noises is not high priority for guests. Also, in almost every hotel that I have stayed, there is a booklet that details all of the amenities, to include swimming pools, restaurants, bars, and other services and the hours available. There was nothing. Nada. Zip. Overall, my stay was incredibly miserable and way overpriced for such inferior quality. Motel 6 has better service.

I was there for a convention, and felt so pampered I am tempted to go back to Grand Rapids just to stay at the Amway Grand Plaza! Where to begin? The front desk professional helped me upgrade a room. The bell desk took my exhibit materials over to DeVos. The food at the restaurant was superb. The fitness center had everything I needed at the end of a long day. When there was an issue with a shipment that arrived after the conference was done and I was home, the bell desk took the time to work with me on navigating that box back to me. Before coming to the Amway Grand, I was elsewhere in Michigan at a far more expensive place that prides itself on customer service and experiences. The Amway Grand could teach them a thing or two.

Tried to check in at 5 pm last night, room wasn't ready. Wasn't ready for another 45 minutes. Room was full of cobwebs and spiders...look up and down my friends. Ice machine didn't work on 10th floor. Called front desk and they told me to go to the 11th to get ice. No ice delivery! Paid a pretty penny for a place I can get for a lot lesss

We had a great experience at this hotel. It’s full service and so much to do. The hidden speakeasy was so much fun, MDRD on the top floor was a lovely experience, pool was nice, room service was so fast, all staff was friendly and accommodating. I loved walking through the hotel and feeling the history. We had a riverview room and everything in the room was great! I loved that there is so much to do in the hotel alone. I also love that there is a skywalk that connects to the Van Andel. Very convenient. Great location. I would say this is definitely more of an adult hotel. I’ve wanted to stay here for years and after my first stay I am happy to say we will be back again soon for another little getaway!
