Not quite up to Expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

We visited SEB the last week of April. We enjoyed our week in Great Exuma but have a mixed review of our time at the resort. We enjoy sevral weeks each year in the Caribbean and have stayed at Sandal's in Antigua so I don't think our expectations were unreasonable before we arrived. The staff at the resort was very friendly overall and seemed to want you to enjoy your stay. The Resort is beautiful with colorful flowers and palm trees and the pools are quite nice and large. Although the main pool was a bit chilly for us. They ran out of towels at both pools most days so keep that in mind for the afternoon. Most of the bartenders were friendly as well and made a good drink. The beach is stunning with multiple shades of blue water and white sand and this could be the resort's best asset. However, the beach is littered with debris and plastics and the sargassum was coming in. I had read some other reviews about the debris on the beach so I thought I was prepared but it really is a problem and by the end of the week, I really had no desire to walk on the beach. I know managment says they clean it but I saw the same crushed plastic bottle at the same place on the beach every day we walked out. I know the debris and sargassum are not Sandal's fault, but please hire some extra staff if needed to clean this up daily. Charge a daily service fee if needed. It could be so nice... Restaurants- inconsistent is the best way to describe the food and I am not a "foodie". We ate at the italian restaurant twice. The first night was good and the second night the lasagna was cold in the middle and the chicken parm was room temperature at best. If you request some modification to your meal, you have a 50/50 chance the kitchen will get it right. Having two restaurants closed each night is too much. Long waits at non reservation restaurants or eat bar food at the Pub. Room service for the Club guests was less than 50%. Two mornings nothing at all arrived and two mornings it was more than 45 minutes past the scheduled time. One morning they knocked on our patio door 30 minutes early and we were still sleeping...that was not a good way to wake up and we just ordered a pot of coffee most mornings. The breakfast buffet was good as well as the French restaurant. The Hibachi was fine. The coffee/pastry shop was good and I appreciate that it stayed open later. I also appreciated the gluten free options at each restaurant we ate at. Rooms - comfortable but very dated. We were in building 7 which I liked because it was away from most activity and was quiet. Our room was large and the bed comfortable but wow all of the furniture has been heavily used. The two chairs at the table were missing support pieces to hold the legs in place so the legs didn't hold in place when you sat on it. The bathroom was in better condition and the shower was hot with plenty of water. The AC couldn't get the room temperature below 70 which was mostly fine. During the afternoon it didn't make it to 70 but at night with humidity a bit cooler would have been better. If you looking for a luxury room, this was not it. Cleaning staff works hard and does a good job but one day our room was missed. I really wanted to love this resort and make it part of our annual Caribbean circuit but it just didn't make me feel the value was there. I do love beaches so if that is not important to you, you may be very happy here. At this price point, there are a lot of options out there and I guess we will try some others.

As close to perfect as it could get!

My husband and I stayed at Emerald Bay to celebrate my 65th birthday last month. We wanted to make the trip as special as possible, so we booked a suite with a walk-out to the beach and butler service. Everything in our room was top notch; everything we asked for was taken care of by our 3 butlers—Mars, Ailyn, and Breon—including a huge birthday sign and balloons over the bed on my birthday. We ate at 6 of the 11 restaurants and every meal was delicious, but my favorite was our private 4 course candlelight dinner served by Todd. It was an experience to remember for sure! We booked the Swimming with Pigs excursion and it was also a great experience except for people who took advantage of the free beer and were clearly intoxicated and made the trip back not so enjoyable. My hubby played golf twice at the course on the resort and he commented several times about how well-kept the greens were. I got a lemon body scrub at the spa on my birthday and Gabrielle made that a pleasant experience as well! We enjoyed the trip so much that we decided to book another Sandals trip for next year, and Rochelle at the bookings office made that easy! The only thing that could have been better was the weather; it was extremely windy and rainy at times and that kept us from being able to get in the water or do any water sports, but hanging out at the quiet pool was a nice alternative. I highly recommend this resort for mature folks like us; there were many more folks there our age than there were young folks! 😊

Wonderful Stay at Sandals Emerald Bay

Superb! Second time at Sandals Emerald Bay--expecting a third trip next year. Antwon the Awesome met us for a Club Level concierge experience. In addition, Roubin and Nakiesha, butlers from last year, gave us warm welcomes including big hugs. Our Swim-with-the-Pigs Tour exceeded our expectations. Pig Island is only one of several attractions of the tour. Feeding pigs carrots included feeding and carressing stingrays, which served to introduce us to subsequent snorkeling and finding live conch on the sandbars. Dare I mention Iguana Island where you can feed iguanas? Back to the resort....Met wonderful people every day at the local swimming pools--the real reason to travel. Ruthelin expertly manages all the hosts who treat every guest around the pool with rapid drink or food service. Janelle, one of our favorite ladies, commands Bahama Bay Restaurant where we dined for buffet breakfasts and the occasional lunch. La Parisian Restaurant impressed us greatly with their service and delicious food. Chef Stephan even took time to visit our table ensuring we enjoyed our meal. Take advantage of the Barefoot Restaurant on the beach for a romantic dining experience. We golfed, or should I say, drove around the golf course just to capture the views of the six holes adjacent to Emerald Bay. We stopped several times for photos and to relax barefoot on the fairways and greens. We made it a point to never hold anyone up, nor hit into the group ahead. They gave us a room on the third floor overlooking the bay--couldn't ask for better. Special thanks go to the dedicated cleaning team responsible for daily tidying our room. Looking forward to our next adventure. Be certain to visit Chrishner in Travel Loyalty to book your next adventure.

Exuma trip

Our trip was awesome, we had a butler suite, (loved Samson & Henry) they made the trip too worth while. They greeted us & from that point on we couldn't ask for anything more, They made us feel like kings, waited on us (especially Samson) & brought us stuff we didn't even ask for. We are already talking about going back next year, LOVED THEM!!!!

Great visit! Heaven on earth!

Visited sandals emerald bay last week in April 2024. This was our 3rd sandals and our friends first time at all inclusive. We r in our early 60s and scuba divers. This sandals Truly did not disappoint. Read lots of reviews prior to arriving. My advice is decide for yourself.. Arrival pickup and departure procedures are perfect. We had an oceanview walkout grand luxe club level room. Nice room I would say starting to show signs of needing updated and refreshed. Nothing major but expect the best for price we paid. Hope management doesn’t let it slip. Rooms the AC is cool and comfy bedding excellent. Bring jacket for buffet and dining as they are very cold inside. .. Food was great for most part. Loved Kimonos, and Italian restaurant. French restaurant we all agreed the food was pretty bland and tasteless. Bahamian night food was fabulous !!! Highly recommend!! Great staff, professional and accommodating! Everyone friendly said Hi and buffet gals were amazing! Travel tour guys awesome they even managed to bring a shirt over for our friend to purchase from a tour. Highly recommend all day pig tour(booked separate thru exuma watersports) and the 7 beaches tour which booked at sandals (same company Exuma tho) we were signed up to dive but was cancelled due to high winds bad weather. Keep in mind this sandals only offers one single tank dive per day. We chose to skip diving and hung on beach instead. We loved hammocks and swings on beach and palapas. Loved jazz saxophone one night and sitting by fire in evening so enjoyable. I would definitely return also feel this resort was definitely catering a little more to the older crowd. Lots of 40-60s couple. Plenty younger too tho. Red lane spa excellent experience thoroughly enjoyed our raindrop dreams massage. Hubby loved golfing on amazing course. Special shout out to Chad at the gift shop for giving us great fun shopping experience.
