Stranded on island oasis with ocean swells that rise with the tide, Alila Villas Hadahaa is a rapturous Maldives retreat situated in the North Huvadhoo Atoll. The visionaries of this eco-friendly resort raised the bar by preserving the surrounding vegetation, using natural timber and leaving as little environmental footprint as possible - making Alila Villas Hadahaa the first Maldivian resort to comply with the Green Globe standards. When it comes to the 50 exquisite villas, the lines are blurred between interiors and exteriors by uniting the two in design, with the ocean lapping up to the edge of your private deck. Additional appointments such as private pools, living areas and personal gardens complete the picture.

This is our third time and we were genuinely surprised by how memorable the experience, atmosphere and vibes felt once again. What stood out the most was the level of personalization. The team made every effort to adapt the menus to our preferences, which made the dining experience feel very special and personal. We really enjoyed the variety and quality of the food throughout the stay, especially at the Dining Room and the Island Grill. Small touches made a big difference, such as preparing French toast for breakfast, béarnaise sauce, or cutlets even when they were not necessarily on the menu. The service was also a major highlight. The chefs, servers, and hosts were always warm, attentive, flexible, and genuinely kind. We felt very well looked after from beginning to end. The villas was spacious and we had 2 times cleaning daily with some suprises: Sweets local snacks, fruits and messages in front of our doors made with sands. The location of the island is remote. No noise from boats or seaplanes. All you hear is the waves and sometimes the rain pouring. It can happen during this time of the year which is OK for us as it is low season, we could enjoy also lower price. The reef is truly amazing for snorkeling and diving. We saw so many fish, turtles, Murat eels, sharks, manta rays, and the biggest surprise was swimming with a family of dolphins. It was one of the most unforgettable moments of the year and definitely makes us want to come back.

We had a short but wonderful stay in late May. The overwater villa was spacious and well appointed. The deck was on the smaller side and, as others have noted, does not offer much privacy. The worthwhile tradeoff is having direct access to the beautiful house reef which we enjoyed on our own during the day and with our guide Max at night. Although we went in the beginning of the rainy season, we had mostly pleasant weather with only 1 day of rain and rough waters. Our host, Akram, was attentive to our needs and made the trip effortless. Dining was a highlight. We opted for the half board plan and every item we tried was excellent.

We stayed for 5 nights in Early April . Our weather was perfect. This is a very small resort where everything we wanted to do was within walking distance. We chose an all inclusive option (Full Board) we had so many dining choices including a weekly beach barbeque, it was a celebration of seafood and was very nice. We had a beach villa with a pool which we enjoyed! we love being able to just walk into the soft sand beach and snorkeling the house reef just right from our villa. A very special place!

Park Hyatt Hadahaa was one part of our three-island Maldives holiday in March 2026. Room – We booked a Deluxe Villa for 6 nights which for us was pretty pricy accommodation. Prior to our arrival we had emphasised through multiple emails how important privacy was to us. On arrival, the villa we were assigned fronted the arrival jetty and passing beach walkers (eg - sitting in bed in the morning, I could see staff and guests looking up at us). We immediately asked for a room change, but we were told repeatedly that this was not possible. With very little hope, I had emailed our travel agent, Amit from Simply Maldives, for help. He quickly followed up, and the next day we were upgraded to a stunning two-bedroom villa with a large swimming pool and cabana in a secluded tropical garden on a pristine slice of beach - exactly the privacy we had dreamed about for the previous six months! The room included an outdoor shower and bath set in a small garden, which was lovely — a mango tree with ripening fruit just outside. I did not use the bath at night, however, because of the prolific geckos. I love them as a species but did not want to find one between my toes or dropping on my head. During our stay, we saw no mosquitoes at all but quite a few small (by Aussie standards) flies - we were told they were there for just a few months each year. We enjoyed being able to use Chromecast to occasionally watch downloaded movies on the big screen TV. The air-con was quiet and effective. On the downside, the wi-fi was at times frustrating - we found it very difficult to upload photos to iCloud. Information about the room and resort was not easy to access, - there was no general compendium explaining everything, and hotel app often directed us to ask our butler. Overall, the butler service was average compared to our experiences at Como Cocoa and Huvafen Fushi although to be fair, our butler also appeared to be responsible for every guest we met, so clearly had a lot on his plate. Snorkelling – Our first afternoon, late, we walked the very short distance to the beach in front of our villa and swam out to the drop-off for our first snorkel. It was magical, with a huge variety of aquarium fish, and a hawksbill turtle so close I could have touched it as it grazed (dear reader, don't freak out — I promise I did not touch the turtle). On our second afternoon we did the house reef guided snorkel. At high tide our guide took us from the Dusk Jetty along the drop-off parallel with the beach, towards the overwater villa wing. We found the variety and magnitude of the coral gardens absolutely stunning. There was a good diversity of fish, but in smaller numbers compared to our previous day's snorkel. Again, we watched a hawksbill turtle grazing and were pretty sure it was the same one as the day before. A few blacktip reef sharks swam past in the blue of the drop-off. We then swam under and past the Dusk Jetty and saw anemones and clownfish. Our guide told us that at low tide either of the two jetties' ladders offered good accessibility and visibility. If you emerge at the Dusk Jetty stairs, there are a couple of outdoor showers to rinse before grabbing a drink at the newish Dive Bar, which is a really cool, low-key bar option. Food – Although we never expected we could eat the huge quantities of food provided under Park Hyatt's All Inclusive, we chose AI for peace of mind and knowing that the cost of drinks added up quickly. Our package included a full breakfast; a four-course lunch at either the Bar or the all-day restaurant, the Dining Room; a four-course dinner at either the night-time Island Grill or the Dining Room; as well as a one-off beach BBQ dinner. We like to occasionally eat on our villa deck or have breakfast in bed, and so we were very happy that in-room meals were included in AI, although subject to a discouraging US$50 ‘tray’ charge. Special dining at Koi or the Treehouse costs extra too, though with a 50% discount. Mr Truly is a cocktail master, and I happily benefit from his expertise, so the AI beverages were important to us. A daily full mini-bar was included (with soft drinks, water, an array of spirits and mixers, some wines and beers, but no champagne), as well as all-day drinks served at the main Bar and drinks with meals. PHH were happy to adjust the mini-bar beverages to our taste, and bar staff kindly mixed our favourite cocktails. At the meal venues, 25 wines and three types of champagne were available as well as beverages including Evian, Perrier and San Pellegrino water; fresh juices such as watermelon or cucumber; iced teas and barista coffees. At one breakfast, F&B manager Avnish introduced himself and we had a light-hearted conversation about our favourite cocktails - he confirmed that we could text him our preferred recipes and they would be made as part of our AI. 😊🍸 One note: the two restaurants did not have direct beach or sea views, so to dine on the beach you could either participate in the regular beach BBQs or arrange special dining at additional cost. In-room dining was prompt and consistent, and we were able to order off menu (e.g. coconut lime daiquiris from the Dive Bar). We dined twice at Island Grill, a 'feet in the sand' restaurant that appeared to have fine dining aspirations. Our first meal there was not a success: scallops were a little rubbery, grilled jumbo prawns overcooked, a side dish of grilled corn consisted of a single 2-inch, a tasteless (frozen?) cob at the laughable cost of US$15(+27% tax and service) and a coconut cheesecake lacked any discernible coconut. Service was lacklustre - after our first glass of wine we were not offered anything further to drink, and when we asked for another, it arrived after we had finished our meal. Our butler had pre-booked our second meal there, so after some discussion we decided to return. This time service was attentive, my haloumi salad was rustic but delicious, and the grilled lamb chops and truffle mash were tasty if puzzlingly textured. My raspberry bombe Alaska dessert was great fun — blue flames of rum and all. Spa – I can 100% recommend the spa — both of my treatments were wonderful, especially the first, a Hoonu Turquoise massage with Abini(?), who concluded our session by sweetly wishing me a Happy International Women's Day. The spa area was a beautiful oasis of calm with sun loungers dotted through the garden and views of the natural-looking adult pool. Excursions – The only excursion we did was the Turtle Quest, and it was FANTASTIC. After a 20-minute boat trip we approached another island and leapt from the boat to immediately see a turtle swimming off into the blue. We saw a further ten turtles (hawksbill and green) as well as a flock (?) of five eagle rays 🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢 The Dive Master very kindly offered to use our GoPro to film us snorkelling together, and his snorkel-diving upside down and backwards to shoot us was amazing! Medical – I twisted my wrist on the flight from Australia and suspected a light sprain. When it hadn't resolved within the week, I asked to see the PHH doctor. She immediately came to my room after dinner, bandaged my wrist and provided various medications and the Indian equivalent of Voltaren. My wrist definitely improved, and we were not charged anything for the service or medication. Checkout – Our checkout and transfer went very smoothly. We received a draft bill the morning of departure and raised one query about a charge — after initially justifying it (which we accepted), PHH removed it anyway, which was a nice touch. Overall - All up, PHH delivered much of what it promised: a beautiful, intimate island with wonderful snorkelling and a relaxed adult atmosphere, and we would certainly consider a return, paired with another Gaafu Atoll resort. Our hesitation stems from the initial room issue — the hotel only responded once we escalated our concerns to our travel agent. What would happen next time?

It is a spectacular hotel. The activities are unforgettable, the food is delicious, and the service is unmatched. Every second at this hotel is truly worth it. On top of that, Mohamed Shahun’s care and attention made our honeymoon experience absolutely unforgettable.
