The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

A planned weekend lunch at Half Moon Bay turned out to be a fine experience with a visit to the Ritz Carlton. It was thrilling to see this stately, majestic resort with well trimmed lawns and an undulating golf course overlooking the Ocean. Its well kept interiors, attentive staff and the interesting menu at the restaurant made for a very pleasant experience. With lots of activity including strolling on the trail or just plain ocean gazing by guests, this place is highly recommended for an outing!

We had a surprisingly bad time at this Ritz-Carlton. We were initially disappointed by the amount of trash that is all over the grounds. We saw staff and managers walk by without making any effort to clean the place up. Next, this hotel does not have a coffee shop, or a gift shop where you can get things like snacks, toothpaste, etc. The worst part of our stay was repeatedly finding small metal balls (smaller than a BB) on the floor of our room. We were very concerned about their origin and nature because our 11 month old was with us. The hotel didn't care. After I reported it, it took days for management to respond. They were very indifferent about the problem. I tried to reach the hotel manager and was told he or she was not available. I later found out there currently is no hotel manager. It definitely shows in the way the place is run. We will never go back.

My wife and I recently stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and had an amazing time! Everything was top notch and the rooms were very well appointed and incredibly clean. I want to give a shout out to Sabrina and and Brenda at the Concierge who helped me arrange a surprise gift for my wife for when we arrived and they set up the room beautifully with the gift as a center piece, along with prearranged flowers. After we arrived we received a special gift of light bites and wine from the hotel thanking us for spending our special weekend with them. Our room had a fire pit over looking the greens and ocean and was just perfect! We enyoyed the pool and other overall mellow vibe of this place, its was truly something we were looking for on this weekend. We had the 7 course meal at Navio and that was dining highlight for us, it was incredible! Happy we chose the Ritz Half Moon Bay for our stay, and would recommend for anyone looking to unplug and relax.

I have to give a huge shout-out to Nathan at the front desk, because he truly saved what started out as an extremely disappointing arrival at The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay. Prior to our stay, I had coordinated with a concierge and made it clear that I was traveling with my wife for a special birthday weekend. So when we arrived and were told that the room available to us had two queen beds instead of a king, I was furious. For a luxury property at this price point, and after taking the time to coordinate our stay in advance, this was certainly not how I expected our weekend to begin. Thankfully, Nathan stepped in and saved the day. He listened, understood why I was disappointed, and immediately worked to find a solution. Nathan was able to get us into a very nice room that, while not exactly what I originally envisioned, was a very good consolation and allowed us to put the frustration behind us and enjoy the birthday weekend. That is what exceptional hospitality looks like. Problems happen, but what distinguishes great service is how someone responds when they do. Nathan turned what could have been an expensive and very disappointing birthday stay into a memorable one. He deserves to be recognized by Ritz-Carlton management. As a longtime Marriott Bonvoy traveler, I typically hold Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite status, depending on how much business travel I do in a given year, so I spend a considerable amount of time in Marriott properties and have experienced all levels of service. Nathan’s service stood out. Five stars for Nathan. Thank you, Nathan. You genuinely saved our birthday weekend! P.S. Compliments to the chef at Conservatory for the best Chilaquiles. And honorable mention to Marian and Rodolfo for extra room amenities.
