Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, Germany

Perched on the banks of the Inner Alster Lake in the urban heart of Hamburg, it would appear the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has always been the regal resort it is today. It actually started as a small house purchased in 1897 by Friedrich Haerlin, who over the years added a gala reception hall – now the Wohnhalle tea room – the Art Deco Jahreszeiten restaurant, and a namesake restaurant that today garners two Michelin stars. The property was renovated and air conditioned in 2009, and rooms retain touches of individuality in their rich traditional décor.

Walk along the Hamburg Promenade, glimpsing the Landungsbrücken, or floating docks. Discover a hidden seafood restaurant and sample one of the city’s famous fish rolls. Take a ferry to view the city from an aquatic viewpoint. Return to the hotel for a Doc Cheng’s Lemon cocktail – lime, Cointreau and passion fruit juice – in a Shanghai-themed bar. Dine on refined Mediterranean-French fusion cuisine at one of Germany’s most lauded restaurants.

The Vier Jahreszeiten is an old-style grand hotel in the best sense. As if it stepped out of a Thomas Mann novel. Discreet and dedicated staff, a comfortable and relaxing bar / salon. Great food and drinks. The rooms are clean, comfortable and elegant. The hotel and all amenities are in top shape. Nothing is dated or in need of any refurbishment. It is my absolute favorite in Germany and makes easily my top four in hotels in the world (two in the USA and one in Asia).

We spent three happy nights in a Junior Suite with a water view. The hotel offers an exceptional mix of strong service, beautiful rooms and solid dining choices. It's a large hotel that manages to feel cozy and welcoming. There are original architectural details to enjoy in the common areas and the Grill restaurant, along with plush modern touches. The location is perfect, close to shopping, landmarks and public transportation. Can't wait to return!

Vier Jahreszeiten means four seasons in German, but this hotel belongs to the Fairmont chain. Hint, hint for the Four Seasons: buy the property and keep the staff!!! For my first time in Hamburg, I could not have wished for a better experience. The hotel is well located (overlooking Aussenalster Lake) and within walking distance from the main shopping area and attractions. I arrived in train and the taxi ride was less than five minutes. Upon leaving, it is like a 40-minute ride to the airport. The service was fantastic, especially the concierges. They managed to obtain tickets for next evening at the new concert hall (Elbphilarmonie), whose building is already an attraction on its own, but attending a concert made it even more special. I tried the hotel restaurant and it was simply the best meal in Hamburg. Their service was also outstanding. The room I had was nothing especial, but certainly extremely clean and with reasonable space, including the bathroom. If back in Hamburg, this will be my place of choice again!

This was the fifth time I stayed in the Vier Jahrezeiten, but the first time after they completed their renovations. The property looks stunning. The Hotel oozes comfort, grandeur, quality and old world charm. My room this time was a double with a king size bed facing the Alster lake. The view was perfect! The room was quite large, probably around 40m2 and had several comfy chairs. There was even a walk-in closet. My stay was very short so I did not get to try all their facilities, but the gym is world class and the breakfast restaurant is great. The service was friendly and correct all over the place. Highly recommended!

We would defiantly stay in this Hotel again. It's perfectly situated near the shops and restaurants. We had a very nice and quite room with a view over the town and water. Very friendly staff. Only the In-Room breakfast was not satisfactory, far too expensive for what we received. We recommend guests to go down for breakfast.
