Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, Germany

Perched on the banks of the Inner Alster Lake in the urban heart of Hamburg, it would appear the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has always been the regal resort it is today. It actually started as a small house purchased in 1897 by Friedrich Haerlin, who over the years added a gala reception hall – now the Wohnhalle tea room – the Art Deco Jahreszeiten restaurant, and a namesake restaurant that today garners two Michelin stars. The property was renovated and air conditioned in 2009, and rooms retain touches of individuality in their rich traditional décor.

Walk along the Hamburg Promenade, glimpsing the Landungsbrücken, or floating docks. Discover a hidden seafood restaurant and sample one of the city’s famous fish rolls. Take a ferry to view the city from an aquatic viewpoint. Return to the hotel for a Doc Cheng’s Lemon cocktail – lime, Cointreau and passion fruit juice – in a Shanghai-themed bar. Dine on refined Mediterranean-French fusion cuisine at one of Germany’s most lauded restaurants.

It is always a special experience to visit the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. From the moment you enter you are surrounded by discreet and efficient service to the highest standards. The hospitality that is practiced in this hotel is incomparable, impeccable, world-class. We were greeted, warmly welcomed back home like old friends, roomed to our beautiful suites overlooking the Binnenalster. The dinner in Nikkei 9 is another special treat. The restaurant manager went to great length to make our dinner a true experience. He even called the restaurant (not in the hotel!) where we had planned dinner for the next day, to make sure we were well looked after there. Breakfast is excellent, well selected and nicely served. Make sure you try the crab salad in the little glass jars!!! Bar and Wohnhalle are packed with local visitors but, yet again, service was always discreet, respectful and perfect. We haven’t tried the Grill and the Haerlin this time, but from my past visits i know that they stand up to the rest of our experiences. Thank you for a great weekend!

From being made welcome by the doorman, to the check out this was an experience littered with service minded staff. The hotel is best described by the beautiful pictures on its website. I had a room with a view over the lake which was great. The breakfast had a good selection plus a menu of cooked alternatives. Very pleasant setting for the breakfast. The room was a good size, whilst the walk-in dressing room was spacious. My room shared a short corridor with the next door room. When my neighbour left in the moring it was quite noise, so I would recommend asking for a room without an adjacent room.

The one word which has summed up the Vier Jahreszeiten is outstanding. Very centrally located my partner and I spent nights in heaven in this hotel. The service is outstanding from the porters, concierge, reception staff, waiters waitresses the numerous front line staff and of course housekeeping. It felt as if the guest experience was of prime importance almost down to pre emitting customer needs. This was done with such a high level of professionalism and unobtrusive. My compliments to your management it’s no easy job. Add this to beautifully appointed rooms. The dining experiences were excellent and high quality. I can’t imagine the work that goes on in the kitchen and out of sight. I could wax lyrical about the hotel and how wonderful it was. It was difficult to bring myself away from the comfort to explore which is a very interesting and laid back city with some cultural gems.

This hotel offers an unbeatable combination of central location, upscale neighborhood, lovely view, elegant decor, comfortable furniture and bedding, adequate lighting, spacious rooms, fine dining, and good internet connection. On my three previous visits I had only praise, but this time there were a few faults to mention. To start with, when we arrived in the room, the door was unlocked and the window open. We assumed that the window had been opened to dissipate a weak sewage-like odor that may have emanated from the shower drain, and which built up to noticeable concentration if the window was left shut. Then I discovered that they had forgotten to charge the battery in the SONY tablet that takes the place of the information binder that most hotels use. A staff member came to inspect, but said charging would take at least an hour, so they kindly sent up a hard copy of the restaurant menu. Come shower time the next morning, I noticed that the light bulb in the ceiling over the shower was not operative. No big problems, but in this hotel one expects, and usually receives, perfection. Very good breakfast.
