Travaasa Hana in Hana, Maui, Hawaii

Travaasa Hana combines the words travel and pravaasa ("memorable journey" in Sanskrit) to describe the connection guests will feel with the land, with the locals and with themselves after a retreat to the wind-swept cliffs of Hamoa Beach. Travaasa's philosophy is one of creating deeper experiences: Riding a horse along the coast with a paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, as he recalls stories of growing up in Hana. Collecting vegetables from rich volcano soil and learning how to cook them. Sharing words of wisdom with a local teacher after a healing one-on-one Pilates session. Going home forever changed.

Greet the day with a guided meditation on black lava rocks at the edge of the sea. Match your vinyasas with the breeze during a yoga class on a patch of grass under coconut palms. Join a guide on a coastal walk among Polynesian plants, catching a glimpse of the ‘Alau Island bird sanctuary. Paint or write, inspired by your surroundings. Share stories around the nightly fire pit.

Dated and cracked tiles, rusty fixtures, dusty and dirty blinds, dusty and dirty lampshades, loose toilet seat, dirty sliding glass door, dead bugs stuck in sliding glass door, dirty coffee maker, dirty teapot. Unbelievable that they didn’t take care of these details for what they charge to stay there. If you’re not going to update your rooms since the 1800s at least clean them properly! Not to mention there is no air-conditioning and their food was lowsey. I guess they can charge what they want to since they are apparently the only resort in town. The staff is nice and the ocean view was great but this is not a 4 to 5 star resort.

My family and i once again decided to stay at the Travaasa Hotel Hana over the weekend and let me tell you what a treat it was. We've stayed a few times over the years and the experience keeps getting better. Their rooms are well appointed, clean, well maintained, views of the ocean are amazing and we loved the fresh baked banana bread along with a welcome card from the resort manager Marni Aina. For those of you looking to decompress, this is the place, The Travaasa website provides a description of their distraction free environment from radios, clocks and television. AC is not necessary, just open the windows and doors and allow the trade winds to cool you off. The lack of a television will disconnect you from all the distractions happening around the world and allow you to spend quality time talking with loved ones. But if you need a TV fix (in my case getting caught up with the Olympics), you can dine at the Hana Ranch Restaurant and enjoy a wonderful meal. What makes this property a truly unique experience, are the employees, they welcome and treat you as part of their ohana (family), from Patrick at the bell desk, Kamalu at Hana Ranch Restaurant, Tammy, Shannon and Leah at the Front Desk, Michelle over at concierge desk to Joji the night Security, all were awesome. I look forward to seeing you all in the not so distant future

I paid 600 $ for room only. The room was not ready till 4.40 pm! No TV in the room. Wall full of scratches, gym with very old equipment. Can’t really recommend this place unless you are willing to pay a fortune and if you have no expectations in return

Lovely rooms and setting. Unfortunately had a room that backed onto Hana Highway so noisy with traffic. However sitting on Lanai was very peaceful and gardens and grounds were beautiful. Staying overnight in Hana allows a much better experience of the trip. So much to see around Hana that you can’t accomplish on a day trip

They cancelled quite a few events last minute that a group of guests were gathering and excited for. Nothing screamed high end about this resort, the pools were unexciting, the food was average, the rooms were getting old and needed remodeling. There was no television in the rooms which is alright except that the Olympics were showing and we were a bit bummed we couldn't enjoy those before bed. The towels and robes were rough, aka old. For the price, I was disappointed, not worth even staying here for 1 night.
