Travaasa Hana in Hana, Maui, Hawaii

Travaasa Hana combines the words travel and pravaasa ("memorable journey" in Sanskrit) to describe the connection guests will feel with the land, with the locals and with themselves after a retreat to the wind-swept cliffs of Hamoa Beach. Travaasa's philosophy is one of creating deeper experiences: Riding a horse along the coast with a paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, as he recalls stories of growing up in Hana. Collecting vegetables from rich volcano soil and learning how to cook them. Sharing words of wisdom with a local teacher after a healing one-on-one Pilates session. Going home forever changed.

Greet the day with a guided meditation on black lava rocks at the edge of the sea. Match your vinyasas with the breeze during a yoga class on a patch of grass under coconut palms. Join a guide on a coastal walk among Polynesian plants, catching a glimpse of the ‘Alau Island bird sanctuary. Paint or write, inspired by your surroundings. Share stories around the nightly fire pit.

You come here to get away from it all. The hotel has spacious gardens. We stayed in one of the newer rooms. The room was huge and included a sitting area and a dining table and chairs. There were three of us sharing the room and it was quite comfortable. There was a cabinet area with a refrigerator, coffee maker and sink. There is no TV but they do have WiFi. Our room was near a road but they have fountains that mask any noise. Our room was quiet, the bed comfortable and we slept well. We spent time at the pool and enjoyed the gorgeous view of the ocean across the large expanse of lawn. The hotel beach is offsite. We drove there and they had towels, umbrellas and lounge chairs for the hotel guests. The highlight of our stay was the yoga class (included, no fee) in the Wellness Center. This has to be one of the best views in the world to practice yoga. I enjoyed the class and the instructor, it was not too hard but gave you a nice workout.

Great place to relax and unwind. Staff was super friendly and caring. We had a cabin with a beautiful view of the ocean from the lanai. The bartender was excellent but the food while plentiful was not up to the quality of the hotel/spa. We thought food at the Hana Ranch (also included) was better.

We were lucky enough to get the 2 times a year sale, so this was an option for our honeymoon. We split our stay first in Kaanapali Westin, then here for 4 days. Heaven, pure bliss, peaceful, gorgeous, tranquil, stunning, I could go on. Staff were very friendly, and professional, giving us great tips when we asked where to eat nearby. The shuttle to the nearby private beach just added to the 11 on a scale of 10. They have multiple activities daily, a yoga studio, 2 pools, a game room, and the bungalows are clean and private. Be aware they do not have AC if you are there during higher temps, we were fine with the fan in Febuary. This place was tied for my best ever vacation in Belize.

So during our near 3 week honeymoon in Hawaii we stayed at many 5 star hotels and resorts as we went through the Hawaiian islands. This hotel won our heart for the following reasons: 1) They upgraded us to an amazing and huge room without us asking 2) The hotel grounds are beautiful and incredibly photogenic, especially the pool area 3) Great food and great staff 4) Close to all the awesome hiking trails 5) Close to Hamoa beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and I would know, I'm Greek 6) After a very short 10 min trail you can get to the red sand beach which is like a hidden cove and the sand is volcanic red.

I can see why this place is so loved by many. Beautiful grounds, location and the staff are 1st rate. They are friendly and so helpful. They really go out of their way. The Spa is perfection and Hana is heaven. However, When we arrived, we had a dirty room. I mean gross dirty. The tub and toilet were disgusting. There was dark brown syrup stuff in the tub, down the side and on the floor. The sheets were thread bare and ripped and dirty as well. I didn't discover this till after 8pm after my parents were already asleep, so I didn't tell the front desk until morning and nothing was done about it. This is the only staff member who wasn't out of this world helpful. I was so disappointed. Every thing else was wonderful...but I expected much more for a room that is over $600/night. we only stayed the one night. Other than the gross bathroom/room. It was a wonderful experience. The Spa is AMAZING.
