Travaasa Hana in Hana, Maui, Hawaii

Travaasa Hana combines the words travel and pravaasa ("memorable journey" in Sanskrit) to describe the connection guests will feel with the land, with the locals and with themselves after a retreat to the wind-swept cliffs of Hamoa Beach. Travaasa's philosophy is one of creating deeper experiences: Riding a horse along the coast with a paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, as he recalls stories of growing up in Hana. Collecting vegetables from rich volcano soil and learning how to cook them. Sharing words of wisdom with a local teacher after a healing one-on-one Pilates session. Going home forever changed.

Greet the day with a guided meditation on black lava rocks at the edge of the sea. Match your vinyasas with the breeze during a yoga class on a patch of grass under coconut palms. Join a guide on a coastal walk among Polynesian plants, catching a glimpse of the ‘Alau Island bird sanctuary. Paint or write, inspired by your surroundings. Share stories around the nightly fire pit.

It was my first stay here and would definitely stay here again and would stay longer to enjoy more of the amenities. The property is really spread out with lots of green space so it feels expansive and private. It's great if you want to walk around to the different locations on property but you can get the golf cart to help as well. It's not directly on the beach but has views. There's a shuttle to Hamoa Beach if you don't feel like driving as well. Hamoa was lovely with travaasa amenities . Wish I was there longer for a Thai massage, horseback riding , yoga, etc!!! The staff was outstanding as well!

This resort is deep in the jungle (ok, just in Hana, but sure feels more than 50 miles away from Kahului/OGG). Spacious rooms, great food at the restaurant and very quiet (except for nature's sounds). Great views and overall ambiance make this a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle... No TVs in rooms, but WIFI available.

Travaasa Hana was the most amazing resort my husband and I have ever experienced. After a long drive to Hana, staying here for two nights was absolutely perfect. It is so tranquil and relaxing. The property is perfect. The staff was beyond friendly, and so accommodating. The spa was just lovely. We had massages, and enjoyed the saunas, individual cold pools and outdoor jacuzzi. Take the time to appreciate the spa property! We also took paddle board lessons and our instructor was a doll! We did a package, so we ate at the restaurant onsite and thought everything was delicious - all meals. The rooms were private and relaxing - we loved that there were no TVs! Once the sun went down, it was just us and the ocean. The weather was absolutely perfect, so we slept with the doors open, listening to the ocean. One morning, I hiked up to Fagan's Cross - one of my favorite experiences in Maui. Don't give up looking for the Red Sand Beach. It's right there and I could not get to it! Just ask! We will return, and i would recommend a stay to anyone in need of some relaxation.

A very quiet, relaxing place to stay. So quiet that the surf seemed loud in our ocean front bungalow but the dB level was that of a quiet street. We really enjoyed sitting on the lanai and watching the waves crash on the rocks. We left the drapes open at night and were woken up to the increasing light every morning in time to head on down to the shore and watch the sun come up. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent and the kitchen handled our special requests easily.

We did the Road to Hana experience from Wailea and then opted to spend one night at the Travaasa, and I just did NOT want to leave this amazing property. The ocean views from our room's balcony were unreal, and at night we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the rolling waves. The property is sprawling and we enjoyed exploring it, but we regretted not being able to partake in many of the activities due to our very short stay. We did go on the cacao plantation tour offered through the hotel, and that was a wonderful experience. Never knew we could learn so much about the process of creating chocolate from the cacao tree to the completed chocolate bar! The service at the property was fine, but nothing to write home about - although we did appreciate the banana bread that was waiting for us in our room when we checked in! The room itself was huge with an equally large balcony that had a large chaise lounge to relax in while enjoying the ocean views. Wifi was good on the property, but there are no TVs in the room. Additionally, there's no air conditioning, so if the weather ever were to get very hot then that might be a problem - we were lucky enough to be there when the weather was breezy and rain-free. We ate at the hotel restaurant our first night, and the food was just okay - so the next day we opted to eat at a local Hana restaurant for brunch. If you are in Hana, staying at this property is a must-do. I can't wait to go back one day, if for nothing else, then just to relax on the balcony of our ocean-view bungalow again.
