Travaasa Hana in Hana, Maui, Hawaii

Travaasa Hana combines the words travel and pravaasa ("memorable journey" in Sanskrit) to describe the connection guests will feel with the land, with the locals and with themselves after a retreat to the wind-swept cliffs of Hamoa Beach. Travaasa's philosophy is one of creating deeper experiences: Riding a horse along the coast with a paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, as he recalls stories of growing up in Hana. Collecting vegetables from rich volcano soil and learning how to cook them. Sharing words of wisdom with a local teacher after a healing one-on-one Pilates session. Going home forever changed.

Greet the day with a guided meditation on black lava rocks at the edge of the sea. Match your vinyasas with the breeze during a yoga class on a patch of grass under coconut palms. Join a guide on a coastal walk among Polynesian plants, catching a glimpse of the ‘Alau Island bird sanctuary. Paint or write, inspired by your surroundings. Share stories around the nightly fire pit.

I paid 600 $ for room only. The room was not ready till 4.40 pm! No TV in the room. Wall full of scratches, gym with very old equipment. Can’t really recommend this place unless you are willing to pay a fortune and if you have no expectations in return

Lovely rooms and setting. Unfortunately had a room that backed onto Hana Highway so noisy with traffic. However sitting on Lanai was very peaceful and gardens and grounds were beautiful. Staying overnight in Hana allows a much better experience of the trip. So much to see around Hana that you can’t accomplish on a day trip

They cancelled quite a few events last minute that a group of guests were gathering and excited for. Nothing screamed high end about this resort, the pools were unexciting, the food was average, the rooms were getting old and needed remodeling. There was no television in the rooms which is alright except that the Olympics were showing and we were a bit bummed we couldn't enjoy those before bed. The towels and robes were rough, aka old. For the price, I was disappointed, not worth even staying here for 1 night.

First let me say the management tried to resolve our situation but it was too late. My wife and I are both retired and decided to do something special for our 30th anniversary. We live on Maui and have raised our family here. We have been very fortunate traveling about the States and Europe. Several tips to Paris and the South of France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Rome, Naples, Barcelona, and others. We have stayed at many hotels, B&Bs and resorts but staying at a bungalow at the Tava'asa Hotel in Hana has been on our bucket list. It was a hard decision to stay two nights spending over $700 a night on our budget but we were game. This was the most we have ever paid for accommodations. I wished I checked their reviews more thoroughly before making our reservations. Let me say staying in Hana is like paradise. It use to be the Hotel Hana Maui where it gained it's great repretation. The bungalows overlook the ocean with some oceanfront. Now here's a list of issues we experienced. I thought I was paying for oceanfront but got a partial oceanview. The wet bar's drain was rusty with remnants of food. There was someone's used bandage left on the shower towel rack. The Formica bathroom counter and wet bar had embedded stains from years of use. The bathroom dresser had knobs missing from a couple of drawers which made it hard to use. And to our surprise when turning down the bed at the end of our first day there was a quarter size hole in the fitted sheet with no underlining mattress pad. Again please remember the management tried to resolved these issues after we contacted them but the damage was already done. The high expectations for our special celebration were gone. This is where I began rechecking their reviews. The majority of the reviews were great but several others experienced very similar or same issues as we did. So in my opinion, ours was not an isolated incident. The best thing is that we checked this off our bucket list and don't have to do it again. The location and ambience of the hotel's setting can't be beat but the maintenance and housekeeping of these units are badly needed and maintained.

We stayed in a very nice and large bungalow with a nice “lanai”. The resort site is really beautiful. Two downsides: 1/ service is slow: it took 45mn to get drinks served in the bungalow and at that only after we had called back to enquire 2/ all hotels we went to in our Hawaii trip had a (small) corner for smokers. This hotel doesn’t which is a bit inconvenient to smoke... under the rain when paying $800 a night
