Travaasa Hana in Hana, Maui, Hawaii

Travaasa Hana combines the words travel and pravaasa ("memorable journey" in Sanskrit) to describe the connection guests will feel with the land, with the locals and with themselves after a retreat to the wind-swept cliffs of Hamoa Beach. Travaasa's philosophy is one of creating deeper experiences: Riding a horse along the coast with a paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, as he recalls stories of growing up in Hana. Collecting vegetables from rich volcano soil and learning how to cook them. Sharing words of wisdom with a local teacher after a healing one-on-one Pilates session. Going home forever changed.

Greet the day with a guided meditation on black lava rocks at the edge of the sea. Match your vinyasas with the breeze during a yoga class on a patch of grass under coconut palms. Join a guide on a coastal walk among Polynesian plants, catching a glimpse of the ‘Alau Island bird sanctuary. Paint or write, inspired by your surroundings. Share stories around the nightly fire pit.

This is one of the most beautiful places on earth! We stayed in our favorite Sea Ranch Cottage with the sliding doors open all night and listened to the waves crash on the shore outside our room. The room has been recently renovated and exudes the beauty of Hana.

I've been going back here for few years now. The staff is incredible, service oriented. They make you feel like family, always a smile! Bad part is you have to leave someday, as well as your new family. Grinds are tasty too!! 10 stars for this special energetic and peaceful place! Heaven on earth, not so bad. Doug Jones Pres. The travaasa hana was one of the highlights of our trip to Maui. We stayed on other parts of the island but felt like this was the true Hawaii. Being able to go hiking, to beaches, and road to Hana attractions at times that were not yet busy due to our being located in Hana was perfect. It was so quiet and peaceful. Breakfast every morning on our deck overlooking the ocean. We had an ocean front room so it was nice to not see any other buildings in our line of sight to the ocean. There is no air conditioning but I was never uncomfortable and it was nice to sleep with the windows open and listen to the ocean. If we go back to Maui, we will be staying at the Travaasa.

We wanted to stay 2 nights in Hana and following all the web searches and googling, the Travaasa was really the only decent choice in town so we decided to take it. Undoubtedly it is the best hotel in Hana, and welcoming after surviving the long drive on the Road to Hana. Ample parking is in a small lot right opposite the hotel. We arrived at around 6pm and, after some welcome drinks, were quickly checked into units 50 and 51 via buggy. Our rooms had a great view of the massive gardens, while rooms on the other side of the property were ocean facing. I would recommend these ocean facing units, but they looked suitable for couples only. We were also informed that the hotel has a no tipping policy, except for the dining, as this has already been included. The property is massive with 2 swimming pools (salt water), huge gardens, an activities center etc. There are daily activities arranged each day, but best to book ahead of time. Each room was large but decor and amenities were standard, yet probably suitable for such a setting. There was no tv and aircon, something which we knew before hand, but even though the weather turns cool at night it was quite warm in the room which didn't have great circulation. We were also a bit concerned about security if we were to leave our windows fully opened during the night. There were also lots of mosquitos, massive ones, but this is common for all of the Hana area being dense jungle so bring repellant. We had breakfast once in the main dining room and it was a la carte only. Breakfast was delicious. For dinner, there is a place called Hana Ranch just down the road which is less formal (also owned by the hotel). Overall, the property is expensive but if you are staying overnight in Hana then I would recommend it.

The employee are what makes this hotel a comeback to. Rooms are nice, grounds are beautiful, ocean close by the difference is the Hawaiians working there. They are genuine in their efforts to make your stay memorable. The food is nice, local flavors, local produce and fruits. Very quiet and peaceful, no nightclubs, party spots, not much shopping except for the Gallery which has beautiful some expensive yet some affordable local art. This hotel is safe to let the kids be kids, they discourage noise but the kids are safe to run the property and use the ammenities CLose to Hamoa Bay my favorite place in the entire world
