We choose The Kahala because Waikiki looks like our idea of hell...but we wanted a resort experience in HNL, convenient to the Pearl Harbor sites. The Kahala is exceptional in every way. The staff is warm, inviting and 100% professional. When the desk clerk heard we were celebrating our 30th anniversary, she immediately upgraded our room to the top floor, ocean view and sent a bottle of champagne. Anything that needed was immediately provided. I don't believe we heard 'no' once. We had all of our meals at the resort...all were very good, some were exceptional. The breakfast buffet is includes everything and if you book appropriately, you can get breakfast included so you don't feel bad about the price vs what you may want to eat. The room was lovely, spacious and very well appointed. I visited the spa - which was first rate. We did a little shopping and found the staff helpful and the prices not unreasonable for hotel shop0s. The hotel itself is quite lovely. Some reviews have mentioned that it appears 'faded' from it's original glory. We did not feel that at fact, she has a beautiful patina that we felt was critical to our enjoyment of the resort. The beach is beautiful and, on our visit, not at all crowded. The resort is large enough and varied enough to provide full service without making you feel that you are in a busy bustle. We will not hesitate to book here on another trip to Honolulu. My only caution is that I would not book here unless we were planning to spend our time in HNL. The HNL traffic is not good and although the Kahala is very well located, it's impossible to reach any of the historic sites, whale-watching, Waikiki or downtown area attractions without spending 30-45 minutes in traffic. We will stay outside of HNL if we are not planning to be IN HNL. Love the Kahala, it's energy, it's spirit and it's people. Thank you for a beautiful stay.

This was our second time to the Kahala and we enjoyed it immensely. We had a ground level dolphin lanai room again which was nicely appointed like our last stay. We utilized room service service several times for breakfast and evening dessert and the food was always the appropriate temperature and delivered promptly. The grounds are well kept and service is top notch everywhere you go. We splurged on the romance package at the spa this time and it was worth every penny being pampered for nearly 4 hours. We were definitely able to relax like we were hoping to do. If you are looking for a quiet hotel stay then this hotel should surely do it since it is away from Honolulu near a residential neighborhood.

The entire stay was like living in a dream. From beginning to end it was just magical from the gorgeous and spacious room with ocean view over the delicious food in the restaurant and the dolphin marina. Most importantly is the staff who have been going above and beyond to make you feel special. I met one of their incredibly inspiring leaders named Tim Lee. He was the most caring and kindest person I have met in my travels. A true and passionate hotelier! The team around him loves him and I fully understand the reason. I hope he will be there for a long time and I cannot wait to return soon.

We have stayed here twice--once with kids and once just my wife and I. We love the islands of Hawaii, including Oahu, but prefer to stay away from crowded Waikiki. The Kahala sits by itself in a more residential neighborhood about twenty minutes from Waikiki. We booked via Costco Travel and got a good deal on a suite with an ocean vie. Reception was typical of nice resorts in Hawaii--"relax, have a smoothie, here is a flower lei." It works well. The rooms are large and comfortable. The ocean view suites look straight out on the shades of blue from the beach to the reef and the horizon. The beach is private and easy for kids--gentle slope with a protected reef. I was able to swim open water inside the reef. I love breakfast and the buffet here is one of my favorites in the world--lots of fresh fruit, great bread, Japanese and Chinese items and made to order omlettes. The service is attentive and high class. If you want to see the sights of Oahu but pass on the bustle of Waikiki, this is an excellent alternative.
