This resort is perfect for a peaceful and restoring holiday. It is located 20 minutes outside the crowded Waikiki Beach, but it is easily reachable by free shuttle, the shuttle can also connect with main malls and shopping areas. The hotel is beautiful, mixing lux, Hawaiian tradition and comfort, Rooms are spacious, smart, comfortable, cleaned twice a day with add of ice, water , chocolate every time. Swimming pool and beaches are into the resort, very clean and peaceful, there are also dolphins, fishes and tortues all around. Wifi is working perfectly everywhere , there is a fitness room and yoga class in front of the beach. Three restaurants, Plumeria on the beach, Arancino very good italian and a third very high level one. All people working there show you the real aloha spirit, they are very helpful, kind, full of courtesy for customers. Ok, it is quite expensive but it completely worthy and I suppose in line with Honolulu prices.

Fifteen-plus years ago, Honolulu was our home and the birthplace of our children. We visit the isles (now as tourists) every couple of years. For most of our trips, we have stayed at the Kahala Resort. The hotel is an oasis of calm amidst the growingly hectic nature of Oahu. Over the years, some resort features have thankfully remained the same: elegant and quiet lobby, complimentary morning coffee (in addition to free coffee in the rooms), impeccable service, and long-time, friendly workers at Plumeria Beach café, not to mention the breathtaking beach with gentle waves. A wonderful feature new to us: Pacific Dream Photography offers complimentary photo sessions for guests. We didn't want a "cheesy" photo shoot and certainly didn't want to be pressured into buying anything. So, it took us a few days to think about booking a session. I am so glad we did. Loryn, the Creative Director, was immediately responsive to our inquiries and flexible when we experienced a little rain during our scheduled time. The photo shoot was fun and easy and the images were available for viewing the next day. There was no obligation to purchase anything, but after viewing the frames, we WANTED to do so. Loryn was able to capture our children so beautifully -- every, single frame was a masterpiece. Some frames were better with a touch of editing and Loryn was easily able to take care of it to my liking. This is the first time we have professional images from our Hawaii vacay and they are tasteful and artsy. Really added to our overall Kahala experience!

We went to The Kahala Resort for the dolphin experience for my 6-year old son and came across Pacific Dream Photography. We booked the photo shoot on a whim with Loryn and she was very friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. Loryn knew exactly where the perfect locations are for the shoot. She took awesome pictures of our family! I would definitely recommend Pacific Dream Photography to families who want professional photos taken!

I waited three weeks to write this review so I could sufficiently remove myself from the emotions of an amazing vacation by returning to my home State of New Jersey, and for me to further reflect upon my holiday at the Kahala. I will address each item separately: Lobby- Upon our arrival, we were very impressed on how nice the lobby was. It was clean, and it became quickly apparent that this truly was a 5 star hotel. Front Desk Staff- After an 11 hour flight from New Jersey, it was great to have courteous and friendly staff to greet us upon our arrival. Breakfast- The buffet breakfast in the morning had plenty of options and it was delicious. Upon our arrival, we were advised that the busiest times in the breakfast room are between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., so it would be ideal to arrive for breakfast prior to those hours. But being that our body-clocks were still on New Jersey time, arriving early for breakfast was not a problem. Beach- The beach at the Kahala was amazing and very calm, and because it is secluded it lacked the crowds. We were concerned of high waves because we went with two young children, but there were practically no waves at the Kahala. I was informed that due to the reef in the ocean where the Kahala is located, it prevents the waves from getting to be too high, thus the beach is perfectly safe for young children. Cabanas- Also while at the beach, we had reserved a cabana every day for a fee of $65 per day. It was well worth it so we could get a slight break from the hot sun when we wanted to rest for a bit. Lunch- We had lunch everyday at the Seaside Grill, which is right on the beach. The hamburgers and sandwiches were nice and tasty portions, and the coconut smoothies were spot-on. Dolphins- We were especially excited to have a session with the dolphins at Dolphin Quest, which is in the vicinity of pool at the Kahala. It cost $225 per person for a 30 minute session, and we will have great memories, photos, and videos of playing with the dolphins. Dinners- Most of our dinners were outside of the resort area, but we did have some dinners at the Kahala. We had dined at Arancino’s for nice Italian cuisine. We had also dined once at the Veranda, and the most memorable part of the meal was a non-alcoholic drink called a Kahala Fruit Crush; it was an all-natural mix of various fruits into one drink. So even if you do not dine at the Veranda, I recommend that you at least order the Kahala Fruit Crush. Pacific Photography- We had used the services of the photographers who are stationed inside the Kahala. They did a fantastic job, and they knew all of the best spots on the beach to take photos, along with having us properly pose for the camera. Day Tour thru concierge- We took a break from the beach for one day based on the recommendation from the concierge to do a one day tour around Oahu. The stops on the tour included a coffee farm (where we bought various flavored coffees), the Dole Plantation, a macademia nut farm, the North Shore, and the Polynesian Cultural Center. This tour was fun, and the kids mostly enjoyed it due to the plentiful gift shops that we patronized. Room- The room was clean, and it was on the larger side compared to other hotels in which we had accomodations in the past. This was especially important here because we had brought more luggage for Hawaii than we had brought for other destinations because this vacation was for more days than our usual annual vacation. So even though we had four check-in luggage, four carry-ons, and multiple personal items, we still had plenty space to comfortably walk around our room. The bathroom was especially large, as it had two sinks (each at the opposite side of the bathroom), a large bath tub, and a separate shower. The toilet had its own separate room within the bathroom itself. The toilet was quite unique as it had a heated seat. Wall of Fame- On the ground floor near the lobby, there is the Wall of Fame which has photos of past and present celebrities and dignitaries who had visited the Kahala. Location- The Kahala is far enough from the crowds that it is quiet and secluded, yet it is only a 20 minute cab ride or shuttle ride away from the big-city feel of the Waikiki beach area. We especially enjoyed the coziness of Kahala, yet we did plenty of shopping and browsing at the stores of Waikiki.

This was our 5th stay at Kahala (mandarin oriental after Kahala Hilton) in the past 10 years. We have stayed at the scenic lanai with and without balcony, and the ocean front views. The Hotel is well maintained despite its age. The bathrooms probably need to be re-done soon. Although other areas are updated, bathrooms have essentially stayed the same foe 10 years now. Overall, good stay with excellent service. Recently it has become very popular with Koreans (always popular with the Japanese) and it can be crowded at breakfast. I think it needs a second restaurant open for breakfast. Early morning at the beach area is very calming and relaxing, as it can get very crowded with kids mid-day.
