We stayed at the Kahala resort for two weeks in a Dolphin Lanai room which overlooked the dolphin lagoon. The Kahala resort is about 8kms from Waikiki and provides a free shuttle bus departing the hotel at 9.30am through to 9.10pm stopping at Ala Moana shopping centre, Luxury Row and T Galleria in Waikiki and Kahala Mall. The hotel has direct access to a small, uncrowded beach with an average water temperature of 26 degrees. There is also a 26000 sq ft lagoon that is home to five dolphins that are very well cared for. While we were there a team from the University of Michigan conducted a program of scientific research on the dolphins which would be difficult to perform in the wild and adds to our knowledge about dolphins, however captive dolphins are becoming increasingly controversial. If dolphins could talk I think they would ask to stay in the lagoon. The room we were in was quite large with a spacious balcony overlooking the dolphin lagoon, there were two wash basins and a separate toilet. The large screen TV had execellent reception and the free wifi was reliable and of adequate speed. We relied on the shuttle, The Bus, and walking, to visit the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbour, climbing to the top of Diamond Head, hiking to Makapu'u Lighthouse, snorkelling at Hanauma Bay, circumnavigating the island by bus (for $2.50 each) and shopping in Waikiki and Honolulu also managed a swim at the crowded Waikiki Beach. The Kahala is in an upmarket area surrounded by beautiful homes and shares a boundary with the Waialae Country Club, a private golf club that hosts the Sony Open each year. A buffet breakfast was included in our hotel package and was served in the Plumeria Beach House with an uninterrupted view of the ocean. The breakfast staff were a delight and imparted much helpful local knowledge. Thanks Barbara, Lynne and Carol. There are several shops and five restaurants within the resort . We also enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and Honolulu however it was good to return to the Kahala's tranquillity and uncrowded beach. A well-run resort which we highly recommend. I had an amazing time at this hotel and would definitely come back. The staff were very friendly and the room we had was very clean. As this hotel has a private beach it's always very quiet and calm which I loved. I am looking forward to coming back to this hotel next year!

We stayed at this resort for two nights (booked Standard View, Mountain View - King bed). Location is great (near Kahala Mall) away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. A short walk to the beach -- feels very private given the location of the hotel (not overcrowded like Waikiki). We received a cold towel and a lei upon at check-in, and there were complimentary snacks (cookies) in the room. The room itself was fairly spacious. There are a number of onsite dining options. We did not eat on the property, but Hoku's is excellent (based on prior experience). Hotel had some ongoing construction during our stay, which is not perfect. Didn't cause any issues, but you can certainly hear the construction noise as you walk around the property. Overall, it is a very nice hotel in a tranquil setting, with a beautiful beach. We would recommend to other and would definitely stay here again!

We had the pleasure of being a guest of the Kahala Hotel and Resort during the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor and this legendary Hawaiian Landmark. This is, without a doubt in every way the ultimate, from its peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki to its impeccable service and attention to every detail. Gerald Glennon, the General Manager, is one of the great old school hoteliers and his thoughtful and elegant hand is obviously there and that makes all the difference in the Kahala Hotel. Thank you Kahala Hotel for providing us with the best experience and stay!

I just fell in love with this hotel, amazing staff and stunning location. The hotel is located on the Beach front of Kahala with stunning, uninterrupted views of the Ocean.Kahala for those unfamiliar with Oahu is about 5 to 10 minute taxi drive to Waikiki but without the shops and crowds. We originally booked three nights here and planned to move to Waikiki for the last week of our vacation. We fell in love with the hotel and decided to extend our stay and cancel the hotel in Waikiki. You are close enough to the shops and restaurants of Waikiki if that is what you are after. But if you are after a quite, relaxed holiday and one where you feel that you are on a tropical island rather that a Disney resort then I highly recommend this hotel. The hotels in Waikiki are perfectly fine, but few have direct beach access and none have the views or ambience of the Kahala. On the downside rooms particularly those on the Beachfront are not cheap and if I am completely honest are a little overpriced for the size and comfort. Prices are not that far behind the Four Seasons, what you pay for is location. Hotel restaurants are good with the Italian restaurant of particular note (exceptional wine list too) Highly recommend it.
