The Modern Honolulu in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii

Nowhere else but The Modern Honolulu can you find such a dynamic combination of laid-back beach life and cosmopolitan excitement. It’s two minutes from the beach – including prime surf spots where locals flock – and walking distance to downtown Honolulu’s galleries and luxury shopping scene. Explore Honolulu’s bars and street food (don’t miss the roadside shrimp trucks), but don’t stray far from the hotel – Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s fine dining concept constantly wins Hawaii’s top accolades, and at night, celeb DJs turn Addiction into a club straight out of South Beach.

Throw on a sarong and gaze at the sea over Kona coffee and a plate of macadamia nut waffles topped with bananas and Chantilly cream. Borrow a board and hit the waves, drawing inspiration from the colorful Herbie Fletcher installation of surfboards in the lobby. Unwind by the pair of freeform outdoor pools. Assemble an unforgettable sushi plate, complemented by sake tinged with honeyed walnuts.

Okay I loved the modern. It reminded me of The W (anywhere in the world), the Standard in NYC or Hotel Icon in HK. The kinda cool, modern, nice smelling hotel that can seem intimidating but just gives such good service and makes for such a pleasurable stay! First of all, the location is good. It’s 25min car ride to the airport, 10-15min walking distance to the Ala Moana Mall, across the road from Macdonalds and an ABC store. It’s also next to the Pink Line trolley service stop at the next hotel which will get you to Waikiki Beach Walk though sometimes it’s easier to just use LYFT or Uber. The rooms are large, nicely decorated and very pleasant to stay in in. Pool is nice but not meant for swimming. Service is pleasant, helpful and intelligent. Definitely better than the only other Honolulu hotel I had experience with! I will stay here again given a chance and the right budget!

I anticipated good, but this is a true five star hotel. The staff is lovely. The rooms are comfortable. The restaurants are beyond amazing. If you can afford it, it's well worth the price. The location is pretty central for shopping but on the far side of the beach.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks in October - what a fantastic find. Very hip and trendy, The Study bar is very popular with locals and it has a fantastic atmosphere. Very chilled. Its pricey but its good. The room was pretty basic but the simplicity added to the appeal. The food and the service was brilliant and a special mention should be given to Michalene who was a natural with customers and very hard working.

Amber, at Lather Spa in Modern Hotel (Honolulu) was the absolute best therapist I have EVER had a treatment from. She is professional, warm, courteous, and administers treatments that leave you melting & feeling like a new person. I had a facial that included my neck, arms, hands, lower legs & feet. My feet kept the warm feeling all afternoon. The spa is immaculate & I was introduced to the entire staff (never had that before). Overall, I would highly recommend Aber for any type of spa treatment - I will certainly be returning. From las vegas, NV

This is a reasonable hotel with decent fit-out, beds were of good quality and the television had a good selection of channels in HD. Not too impressed with parking though, $35pd + tax - valet only, luckily we noticed across the road a garage that charged a flat $20, this was the same garage the valets used as we saw them running up and down to get the cars. Note: no ice machines, you need to call down for someone to bring up a bucket of ice which i thought was a bit poor.
