Reviews for Hopkins Bay Resort

LOVED Hopkins Bay Resort

Our week long family holiday was a bucket-list item for our very active 85 year old father. He wanted to see a Mayan Ruin and have us (3 “kids” and 1 spouse) all be under one space. HBR ticked all of our boxes. The 3 bed/3 bath villa with common area and kitchen was the perfect set up. Being ocean front helped too. The villa was comfortable and served our needs perfectly. Everyone had their own space when needed. The common area was used for afternoon naps on the couch, nighttime dominos, cards and gear layout for the next day. Other than that, we were outside on the porch, beach, ocean, or salt water pool listening to the soft waves lapping, watching the various birds do their thing or our chosen adventure for the day. It was EXACTLY what we were after!!! From the moment we were picked up at the airport, to the 7 days later getting dropped off back at the airport and the BAZILLION things that happened in between, HBR was FANTASTIC!!! The staff was incredible. The grounds were meticulously tended to, housekeeping was all over it. Kas and Mye used their knowledge to help us plan out our adventures; then we tested their resourcefulness with short notice changes. They worked their magic and was able to accommodate our various changes. The food service staff was AMAZING!!!! Michele with her personal touch, kindness, warm smile, contagious laugh and knowledge of helping people feel better was a blessing, even a life saver. :-)) Shack, along with the other bartenders kept the great drinks coming. The food was wonderful. We did 3 meals/day meal plan so we got to know the staff well, as they got to know us. There’s plenty variety with the set and daily menu that we didn’t get burnt out. In hind sight, I would only do breakfast and dinner meal plan. Of the maximum 5 lunches were could of had, we were only there for 2. The other 3 days we were out on adventures. Even having the meal plan, we still wanted to experience the village of Hopkins. We ate at Ella’s and had Belikans’ at many bars and wonderful interactions with the locals. For our adventures, we had Melvin as our fearless leader for our 2 big adventure days: Xunantunich & Cave Tubing and Jaguar Preserve & Mayan Chocolate Tour. He to was fantastic. He’s a good driver (this matters when you’er spending 5+ hours in the van driving around), knowledgable on many subjects, willing to learn, great story teller, accommodating, great memory and good sense of humor. He’s been guiding for many years and is able to anticipate and plan ahead. That only comes with experience. The Mayan Chocolate Tour was a big highlight; it was a wonderful experience. The trip over to Thatch Caye Island Excursion is well worth it, especially if you want to snorkel, which is GREAT there. It’s a totally different vibe on the island. If you still had anything left to melt away, it would happen there. Now aside from HBR ticking our personal needs boxes, another factor that came into play for choosing them is what Muy’Ono Resorts does for all of the various communities. Not only do they donate a portion of every night booked to worthy local charities, but when you go out on the excursions, you are eating and trading with the local business. At one restaurant, the prior months tab was $4,000. That’s a MASSIVE impact on these small communities and businesses. Our tourist money is going even farther and we are getting local and cultural experiences. We are truly having a positive impact on all of these various communities. EVERYBODY WINS!!!! While we were there Muy’Ono had made some changes to their operation. We are hoping those changes don’t impact the service staff, the customers and the communites. This bucket-list item for our dad has filled us with a life time of memories and laughs. Thank you to EVERYONE at HBR!!!! We look forward to the next time.

Solo and Relaxed in Beautiful Belize

My first solo vacation to Belize was nothing short of amazing due to the experience at Hopkins Bay Resort! From the moment I checked in, until checking out, I was provided with exceptional hospitality and warm smiles always. The beachfront villa, chill vibes, great food, and amazing staff made it very difficult to say "see you later!" Much love to Joseph, my new Belizean friend, who went out of his way to make sure I smiled every day! Huge shout out to the restaurant staff, especially Wilbur, who makes a perfect Hopkins Breeze, and of course housekeeping! Yall made me feel at home, safe, and relaxed. I will see you all soon! <3

Happiness at Hopkins Bay Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Hopkins Bay Resort! A few of our highlights were the prompt & gracious front desk & housekeeping staff who help keep our stay comfortable & enjoyable! The grounds (beach, pool, walkways) are lovely and having the use of kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes (old & rusty, but fine) were a huge bonus! We commend HBR for their sustainability efforts - including reusable water bottles (given @ checkin), straws, and real napkins/silverware/etc... this speaks volumes in a world full of waste especially when near the ocean, WELL DONE! The resort villas could use some general updates as the locks & doors are old & outdated (you'll understand if you stay) and our room fan didn't work. Stocking the kitchen with kitchen towels, sponge/dish rag, and a bottle opener would be helpful for future guests. The onsite restaurant staff were very kind & the food/drinks were good - get the stuffed fryjacks!! Overall, we loved our time at HBR and Hopkins in general ~ thank you for a great stay & we look forward to returning!

Awesome in so many ways!

Beautiful location! We loved Hopkins Village! Staff were amazing in every way. We loved the paddle boards and kayaks. The restaurant was good as well. However, if you want to do any kind of cooking, the rentals are poorly stocked.
