We spent two nights and everything was great. We ate both dinners at the Jefferson Restaurant and the service and food could not have been better. The highlight of the stay was the guided hike as the guide was very informative and we learned so much about the local plants and of course the views were great. The only negative is that in this gorgeous hotel the lampshades on some lamps are not fitted properly and it looks cheap.

I'll be calling the hotel and speaking with a manager today. We had a number of issues from the beds were horribly uncomfortable to the point we all woke up with headaches; to them losing our luggage, misplacing our car. It's shocking that the restaurants all stop serving at 9:15 on a Saturday night. They took our order by phone from our room after four phone calls were made to make the order/ fine out restaurant times. Had they mentioned this on the first call we could have been down to the restaurant with plenty of time. We ate a delicious filet mignon with plastic cutlery, out of cardboard boxes in the Jefferson Restaurant lobby/lounge. All around the hotel small items like molding and light fixtures were in states of disrepair, though the shower in our room was nice and they did have lovely towels. We were quoted a group rate which we'd believed to be based on double occupancy (as every single other hotel does), only to find we were charged extra for each additional person, and a "hotel service charge" of 30% of room fees per day when we were there for a convention of which the hours were from check-in Friday till check out Sunday. We tried swimming Saturday night, but were kicked out of the pool 15 minutes after getting in because it started raining. The bathing suit spinner was broken. I was excited to stay after for falconry Sunday before also being disappointed by there being no falconry on Sundays.

The service and experiences set up with this hotel fell short a lot of the time. Overall, not worth the money. The bartender was left alone the first night of our arrival with a wedding and a conference that was known. We moved for about ten minutes in the yoga class I paid for (it was an hour) and talked for the rest of it? Skeet shooting was great as were the grounds. Food was ok, but not worth the price.

We came for a few days of rest and relaxation. The resort is picturesque and stately but needs a lot of updating. We came in May so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the pools. The hot tub was broken. We made the best of our stay but left somewhat disappointed. We would consider returning if much needed updates are made!

When you drive up to the Homestead you are immediately impressed with the grand estate. My expectation was that the weekend stay would be grand. The first night we ate at the Jefferson, a restaurant on site. When the hostess sat us, I looked at the chair and asked my husband to switch sides because the fabric was terribly spoiled- I had a nice dress on. I went to the other chair and it was almost as bad. I ordered a wedge salad and it was certainly not a wedge, but maybe 4 sorry looking pieces of lettuce. My husband ordered a filet which he said was good, but the filet was sitting on the plate with absolutely nothing to make it look special. Certainly presentation was lacking. On Mother’s Day we got up early to take a hike and get back for the 10am tour. When we got to the front desk, we were told that the man who gives the tours would not be in. Really, no one else could give this tour??? So we went up to get a shower only to find no hot water. We called down to the desk, and they told me we could walk to the spa and take one... really??? It was in another separate building not even close. After about 20 minutes, we took extremely cold showers... and the front desk called to say we would have hot water in another 20 minutes. By this time, we just wanted to escape. When I checked out the man offered me a free night stay which I just kind of smiled about. We were from North Carolina and he probably guessed we would not drive that far for 1 night. So either we would not be back or we would pay for another night. We never received fresh towels. Management should have cared enough to follow up on our stay, but they really don’t want to know. Kind of sad since it could be grand...
