I have lived a little over an hour away from this grand hotel for 15 years, yet only laid eyes on it last fall. As soon as I spied the Serenity Garden, I knew I had to go there. You have to be a hotel guest to get a daypass, so I waited for off-season rates I got through Groupon. Wow. On Sunday I arrived and spent the afternoon in the free pools...lazy river, small waterslides, hot tub, and pool. That was very relaxing, especially floating around the lazy river for the last hour of the day when no one else was in it! Then next morning I went on a short hike to a nearby overlook and then went to the spa for the rest of the day. A day pass to the Spa/Serenity Garden is $65, but you can also get it for no extra charge if you book many of the spa services. The Serenity Garden has a cooler pool (I guess around 80 degrees), a large hot tub, a finnish sauna, the original hot springs encased in a deep octagonal stone pool, and a deluge shower. All were excellent. The landscaping and views are magical. Oh, yeah, there is a (gas)fire that is always burning with lounge chairs around it. I didn't realize that inside the spa locker room there was also what they call the aqua-thermal suite. Too incredible and unique to describe, you will have to look up the details of each thing there. My favorite was getting misted with cool peppermint infused water...or maybe it was warm herbal cocoon. There is a ladies only lounge if you need to rest indoors, and a co-ed lounge with indoor and outdoor seating. All are amazingly well-appointed. Yes, the resort is expensive with all the add-ons, but it is unique, one-of-a-kind, and they are really going the extra mile in the spa. The setting of the resort and the drive to it could rival anyplace in this country for rural beauty and grandeur.

We just returned from a fabulous 5 night stay at the Homestead and we can't stop talking about our experience. The staff was incredible - always willing to do whatever is necessary to exceed our expectations. A shout out to Trish the bartender at the Jefferson - we came back the second night just to get her now infamous "Trish's Special Cosmo"! As others have mentioned, staying at the Homestead is not about the stained carpet and peeling paint. Rather, it's about the experience. We golfed on an incredible course, we hiked and saw bear paw prints, we took skeet shooting lessons, we soaked in the unbelievable mineral pool and we ate like we were royalty. And here is the best kept secret of the entire resort - there is a pizza bar in the very back of the Casino restaurant. Skip the table and go right to the pizza bar where the pizza chef's are whirling and twirling pizzas to order and they will make whatever pizza you can dream up - and it's the best pizza you will ever eat!! Worth the trip up the mountain.

I like to get outdoors when I am traveling and I had plenty to do here. I loved just walking around the grounds of the hotel. The hotel itself offers lots of things to do as well. Pretty area. Will definitely go again!

Horrible, dirty and never coming back! Everything smelled, the food was old, for the price you pay this hotel is not worth your time and your money. I have never been so excited to leave a hotel. The staff is rude and do not reflect the price you pay to stay here. STAY AWAY.

A historic property that's long in the tooth and incredibly overpriced. Service is subpar as is food. We spent well over $1,000 for a weekend and I was sorely disappointed in the quality of the experience. The area that the Homestead is situated in is lovely. The hotel is not worth it.
