I wish I had taken into account the other reviewers who indicate this same thing, but this grande dame is in desperate need of a major overhaul. We stayed in a suite for nearly $700 a night and received a room with stained and mildewed carpeting, ineffective (and noisy!) air conditioners (the temperature in room was 75 degrees with the AC on full blast), decrepit bathrooms and doors that would not shut for being so swollen with humidity. Staff was alternatively very kind and attentive or apathetic. Had to ask several times for basic requests during stay (like receiving a glass of water with dinner). Food was subpar resort fare. This hotel should NOT be an American Express Fine Hotel &a Resort and we are following up with Amex in connection with the same. I understand that Omni is due to renovate this location but would strongly advise against booking here unless and until significant improvements are made.

Great place to stay. World class resort, awesome pool for kids including slides, lazy river, and pools. The serenity pool is extra but it's a separate area and experience and if you like some quiet relaxing time it's well worth it. So much to do, we did some horseback riding on trails, enjoyed the pool and views. Staff is great and service is about perfect Only complaint and it's not enough to downgrade to 4 star is the resort dining. The casino restaurant is awesome. The others are good but not 5 star and the price is 5 star. If you research your dining options you can enjoy all your meals for a reasonable price, if not it's limited without reservations.

Great activities for everyone. Staff is very helpful. A grand hotel and luxurious vacation. Not many places have a shooting club like this and even kids get to shoot. The pool side got crowded fast but the slides were fun and we never waited more than 60 seconds. The food was good.

My husband, son and I stayed for a long weekend. I went back and forth on giving 3 or 4 rating. First the good. The grounds and public areas are absolutely gorgeous. The bell, valet, front desk and main dining room staff were super friendly and accommodating. The pools were very nice and our 4 year old loved the spray area and lazy river. Now the not so good. I understand the hotel is very old, but our room was really worn. The carpets in room and hall were dirty and badly in need of replacing. For over $400 a night (after the 15% resort fee) I'd expect much more. They're also lacking more family food options. We had to eat at the Casino restaurant both nights since the main dining room and Jefferson lounge were too upscale to bring a 4 year old and the food was average at best and way over priced for the quality. $100 for a kids pizza, a burger, chicken breast and 2 glasses of wine. The game room didn't have the first 3 drink options we asked for and half the games were out of order. We would go back, but only with a groupon or some sort of discount because overall I really don't feel it was worth the money we spent.

My third stay at The Homestead for an annual retreat and each year, the upkeep of the rooms continue to decline. During this stay, my room was on the 12th floor of the tower where you are unable to adjust the A/C and the room was unacceptably hot. Was moved to a second room on the same floor, and the room temperature was the same. There must be one central point to control air temperature/flow throughout the building. The shower head was molded and the water sprayed out ununified. While this property is filled with history, and has many activities, the rooms are far from luxurious.
