A 5 star heaven with 1 star food ! A really wounderfull and historic place to visit. Staff kind and friendly, facilities top notch, but the food is total garbage ! Over cooked and often cold. Given the prices the visitor deserves much better quality !

Historical, beautiful, unique and not stuffy

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed at the Homestead as two night stopover on a long trip North. We wanted something unique and pampering and this was more than we expected. Overall, it greatly resembles and reminded us of the look and feel of the other great Omni Resort at Mount Washington. Same wonderful level of service and amenities and activities. Without a lot of stuffiness. What we liked: Architecturally stunning. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. The president's bar is almost like a speakeasy with pool and portraits of all the presidents who have stayed there. Marthas is great for pizza, salads and sandwiches. The veranda. Rocking chairs, gas fire pits, blankets. Enough said. The upkept rooms and care by staff to keep it all prestine. The place is older but the decor, bathrooms and repair of the room was excellent. The staff was constantly monitoring the public areas, fluffing a pillow etc. The Breakfast buffet in the Audubon room.Local maple glaze donuts. Feels special with the tall ceilings, chandeliers and mirrored walls. The hot springs of course. A unique experience. What we thought could be better. The restaurant hours and days open online were not always right, so we had a few issues getting dinner one night. Restaurant's dealing with food allergies. While they do seem to accommodate gluten intolerance, dairy was another issue. At Martha's all the grab to go sandwiches and salads have cheese on them. The one night we ate of Jeffersons, between the heavy sauces and dairy issues, they did try to put something together for me, but it ended up having red meat in it, which I also did not want. Because it was off season Woodies, which we had hoped to eat at was not open. Bottom Line. Go. We would recommend highly it if you don't mind going a little out of your way or if you live in that area of the country.

Family Weekend at the Homestead Resort Omni

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed in a premier view room for a long weekend in June and had an amazing time. Overall the resort met our expectations and our family of 4 loved it. The pool, putt putt, fishing pond, yard games, lazy river and pool slides all provided good daily entertainment. We included a beginner falconry lesson that our entire family loved and did a short morning fly fishing lesson that was also great. We did the Gorge Hike with long time guide and guest favorite Brian-another experience we loved at the Homestead. Our kid's were amazed by Brian's bird calling abilities and he saved a deer fawn in the river that morning-pretty special morning hike! The food met our expectations and overall we loved out stay and would both recommend it to a friend and be excited to return. It is not a cheap place to spend the weekend but in our opinion, worth the costs for the beautiful historical location.

Magical experience, gorgeous building and grounds, sub-par food and wine

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Homestead is magical. It feels like the best sleep away camp from your childhood set in a luxury hotel. The staff is delightful. We started our stay with warm greetings from Ethan and Holly, then chatted with our server Ashley over lunch, who gave us great tips for getting the most out of our stay. Fernando and Jeffry welcomed us every morning at breakfast and seemed genuinely sad to see us leave! Bryan, the naturalist who led our gorge hike was hilarious and an instant friend. Anthony, who led the historical tour was a delight and his love for the hotel shines through. Ryan, who I believe was in management training, helped us with our emergency request for movie popcorn :) And there were countless others who were equally kind and helpful. I don’t think I saw a single staff member looking at their cell phones the entire time I was there- which is saying a lot these days! Our favorite activities were the warm springs family splash, the gorge hike, horseback riding, and the evening movies. The pool provided the perfect break between activities. The pool is clean, well maintained, not too packed, and there are different areas for kids to explore with plenty of comfortable seating in each location. We highly recommend signing up for as many activities as possible because they’re all great. It is true that the Homestead is an old building so some things in the rooms are dated - for example our tub was old (like 1970’s old, not charming old :) and the handle was wobbly. At first we were turned off by the location of our room on the ground floor of the south wing (the far less glamorous wing :) but our doors opened to a gorgeous green lawn and patio that ended up being nice to have- We ate outside one day and stargazed one night on our little private lawn. The buildings and grounds as a whole are breathtaking- well maintained and beautiful. This makes up for any deficiencies in the rooms, in my opinion. Our main critique of the Homestead is that the food and beverages are seriously sub-par- bland, salty, covered in sauce, and unhealthy. There were so few healthy options for my family that we ended up going elsewhere to eat after three disappointing meals at the Homestead - which was no easy feat in such a small town! Also, the wine list was limited and not good. Given the low quality of the food and wine, the prices are outrageous. I recommend having workarounds for the food issue (lunch and dinner outside the resort and lots of fresh fruit and veggies in the mini fridge)- once we got that piece figured out we started having a much better time because our bodies felt happier:) If the Homestead started offering healthier, fresher, and better quality foods (and better wine!) we would happily stay there for all our meals. Despite the issues with the food and wine we loved the Homestead and were sad to leave. In fact, I started booking our next trip as we were driving out of the resort!

What a relaxing weekend, the stress just melts away as we are treated to the manners of yesterday. Great service.

This is a great place to go for a weekend getaway. Nestled in the mountains of Virginia, the home of Sam Snead, and they served the best trout in the restaurant.

It's clear why The Homestead has such wonderful reputation and charm. That is evident when you check in at the front desk, where the whole experience starts. We will be back for many visits to come, and appreciate how well the staff is trained to make guests feel so welcome!

My family and I have been visiting The Homestead since about 1977. Our trip this year was without doubt the best. I believe the hotel grounds and facilities are in the best condition I have ever seen. We look forward to returning soon.

Absolutely beautiful! We love to stay when all of the Christmas decorations are all around. Makes for a very special family holiday.

We won an auction for a trip to The Homestead in Hot Springs to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We are just back from our luxury vacation, and it was fabulous. Everyone at the resort was wonderful.

The hotel could not have been nicer and truly did everything possible to make our stay in November wonderful.

We visited The Homestead in July. It was excellent! The suite was absolutely beautiful and the breakfasts were outstanding.

My wife and I spent three wonderful days at The Homestead in Virginia. We enjoyed a beautiful balcony room overlooking the golf course, gourmet meals, a round of golf and even a horse-drawn carriage ride—with champagne—through beautiful forest. The staff was great from the moment we checked in.
