The best part of this hotel is the staff. The valet workers are the stars of this hotel. They are friendly and helpful. The service is the best we’ve experienced in Houston. The rooms are nice and spacious. The beds are extra firm which isn’t our favorite, but won’t stop us from returning.

I was presenting at a business meeting at the hotel. The staff was committed to provide the best space for a meeting possible, and they over delivered! I would definitely recommend the Hotel Derek for business meetings!

Room wasn't cleaned for two days. People were smoking weed EVERYWHERE. Food was burned. Upon check out, the desk clerk asked how my stay was, I replied it was 'okay'. They asked why it was just okay. I mentioned the listed problems I encountered. The clerk then gave me my bill. Not much for customer service.

We have stayed at Hotel Derek a number of times. This last visit was not so good. Reservations and Housekeeping were awesome, but everyone else failed. They didn't really seem like they wanted us there, Room Service was absent, The Valet was useless, and the restaurant staff were more interested in each other's personal lives, than their customers (except 1 person).

I recently enjoyed my bachelorette party at Hotel Derek, where my best friends booked rooms and a private dinner room for the event. We checked in around 3 and immediately went to the heated pool. The water was relatively warm, but the pool was oddly shaped and not very large. The area doesn't allow sunlight from what we could tell unless the sun is directly overhead (which at 3, it is not). A server comes by with a drink menu which you can charge to your room, there weren't too many chairs to lounge on, but there was a handicapped entry into the pool. Then we utilized the Vintage Room for our dinner. The room was large enough to hold our dinner party of 13, a balloon/photo wall, and a bar tender. The three course meal was fine, nothing really out of the ordinary, but they did accommodate my nut-allergy sister so that was nice. Our bartender was Saul, and he was great and hilarious - probably loving that he was serving 13 gorgeous 20-year olds. The rooms we stayed in, while we asked repeatedly for months to be put next to each other, were not. I know I'm not in the hospitality industry, but I still find that ridiculous, when you know of the rooms at least 3 months in advance, but whatever. The bathroom was small and did not offer great amenities (general shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash bar) but the shower was excellent in water pressure and height! Our beds seemed pretty small but the room also had a couch that was bearable to sleep on. We loved the cow-themed robe - suuuuper comfy and soft. The room also offers a stocked fridge and snacks area - though these are so obviously overpriced, it's ridiculous. We also think the fridge is weighted, so be careful. The hotel offers valet service and a parking garage (of roughly $30/night). However, after having booked this event and 3 rooms months in advance and with a contract in place, the hotel still double-charged our credit cards. Obviously the front desk didn't get the memo of the contract, but again, I'm not sure how difficult it is to put a note in the file or on the room. Overall, I'd likely not be staying here again. Mostly because I live in Houston and this was just for the bachelorette event, but also because I felt, even with all the "amenities," it just isn't worth it, financially. I'd recommend it for its proximity to the Houston Galleria, but even though it's within walking distance, I would not walk - sketchy at night for sure.
