The Houstonian in Houston, Texas

Contrasting sharply with the ambitious glass-covered skyscrapers around it, The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa – part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts – is a sprawling pine tree-studded 18-acre oasis in the heart of boomtown. Ideally located midway between airports, the Galleria shopping haven, Redstone Golf Club, and a smorgasbord of restaurants and galleries, the 289-room hunting lodge-style resort feels like a country getaway, appealing to elegant urbanites as much as Texas ranch-lovers. An enormous hand-carved fireplace dominates the central Great Room, which is adorned with historic military memorabilia. Accommodations are equally masculine with strong red, golden and blue colors, wood-trimmed leather headboards, and floor-to-ceiling windows unveiling views across the lushly landscaped grounds. Amenities ooze mod opulence: complimentary wireless Internet access, 42-inch flat-screen televisions, iHome alarm clocks, technology panels, plus environmentally conscious lighting and climate control come standard. All bathrooms are outfitted with granite countertops, marble showers and complimentary high-end Verbena-scented toiletries.

The Houstonian's crown jewel is the resort's 125,000-square-foot jaw-dropping health club complete with a boxing ring, 8 tennis courts, rock climbing walls, and three outdoor pools. The snazzy fitness center has 250 diverse workout machines and 145 different exercise classes each week. The resort even provides a kids' club so guests can drop off their brood while they get in shape. Locker room facilities are extensive and feature a steam room, dry sauna, and whirlpool Jacuzzi. For post-fitness indulgence, turn to the award-winning Trellis Spa. The novel-thick water themed treatment menu of the 17,000-square-foot facility includes thermal sports massages and citrus fruit-based body scrubs. Ready for some food? Hit the freestanding clubby Manor House restaurant for a Texas Jumbo Lump Crab Cake during lunch or make dinner reservations at sterling Olivette restaurant. The lively display kitchen delights patrons savoring American traditionals prepared with a Mediterranean twist. Conclude the day (and people-watch) with a post-dinner tipple at the plush lobby Bar. No matter how guests choose to spend their days at the Houstonian, this exclusive enclave welcomes everyone in memorably grand Lone-Star-State-style.

This hotel has a woodsy feel, and the lobby is very inviting. It has many amenities such as a gym, a pool, and kids activities such as rock climbing. The rooms were a little dated, but overall, very nice. They were spacious and had a view of the foliage outside. The breakfast is delicious! It is close to a variety of shops and it is also close to Memorial Park.

Eh, just ok. We came here on recommendations from friends to spend a date night for our anniversary. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel was very clean. We were a little put off by the gentleman who checked us in at the reception desk. He was not very warm or inviting, almost seemed like he was trying to get through it as quick as possible. He spoke so quietly we had to ask him to repeat himself several times. Our room was a good size, but the bathroom was pretty small. We grabbed a drink from the hotel bar before heading to dinner and the bartenders were very nice and made great drinks. Upon check out they tried to charge us for valet parking and self parking. We definitely only self parked and she kept asking if we were sure that we didn’t valet. All in all our stay was fine, just nothing special and I️ guess we were expecting more. I️ called the week before to try to get massages booked at the spa but they were complete full, and the website does recommend making them 2 weeks in advance so that was our fault. Probably won’t stay here again, as Houston has a huge selection of great hotels.

My husband, newborn, and I stayed at the Houstonian for my birthday and they went out of their way to make it special with champagne on arrival. Great place for a vacation (or staycation)! We stayed 2 nights. We had room service and also enjoyed food at the pool bar. The weather was great so the pool was packed. There is a lifeguard on duty, which is great for families. We also enjoyed walking on the track that goes around the perimeter of the hotel and the Trellis spa.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during a short trip to Houston for a meeting. The hotel is very nice - especially the grounds, which are beautiful - but rooms themselves are nothing special. Specifically, our bathroom was very small and outdated - nothing like some of the newer hotels that we've stayed at lately. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was great for lunch (which was the only meal that we ate at the hotel). Price was moderate, making this a decent value. If and when we return to Houston, we would stay here again.

My 11 yr. old grandson and I stayed on the 4th floor for 5 days. We totally enjoyed our stay. The elevator was not working during our big deal. We did not mind at all. The staff at the Houstonian was the best I have ever encountered. The front desk staff, especially Mr. Jorge Perez, were very kind and helpful. Housekeeping was outstanding, as well as the staff in the restaurant, shuttle and parking area and the staff at the outdoor pools. Thank you Houstonian!!
