The Houstonian in Houston, Texas

Contrasting sharply with the ambitious glass-covered skyscrapers around it, The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa – part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts – is a sprawling pine tree-studded 18-acre oasis in the heart of boomtown. Ideally located midway between airports, the Galleria shopping haven, Redstone Golf Club, and a smorgasbord of restaurants and galleries, the 289-room hunting lodge-style resort feels like a country getaway, appealing to elegant urbanites as much as Texas ranch-lovers. An enormous hand-carved fireplace dominates the central Great Room, which is adorned with historic military memorabilia. Accommodations are equally masculine with strong red, golden and blue colors, wood-trimmed leather headboards, and floor-to-ceiling windows unveiling views across the lushly landscaped grounds. Amenities ooze mod opulence: complimentary wireless Internet access, 42-inch flat-screen televisions, iHome alarm clocks, technology panels, plus environmentally conscious lighting and climate control come standard. All bathrooms are outfitted with granite countertops, marble showers and complimentary high-end Verbena-scented toiletries.

The Houstonian's crown jewel is the resort's 125,000-square-foot jaw-dropping health club complete with a boxing ring, 8 tennis courts, rock climbing walls, and three outdoor pools. The snazzy fitness center has 250 diverse workout machines and 145 different exercise classes each week. The resort even provides a kids' club so guests can drop off their brood while they get in shape. Locker room facilities are extensive and feature a steam room, dry sauna, and whirlpool Jacuzzi. For post-fitness indulgence, turn to the award-winning Trellis Spa. The novel-thick water themed treatment menu of the 17,000-square-foot facility includes thermal sports massages and citrus fruit-based body scrubs. Ready for some food? Hit the freestanding clubby Manor House restaurant for a Texas Jumbo Lump Crab Cake during lunch or make dinner reservations at sterling Olivette restaurant. The lively display kitchen delights patrons savoring American traditionals prepared with a Mediterranean twist. Conclude the day (and people-watch) with a post-dinner tipple at the plush lobby Bar. No matter how guests choose to spend their days at the Houstonian, this exclusive enclave welcomes everyone in memorably grand Lone-Star-State-style.

I went to Houston to visit my son, but stayed at the Houstonian. What a great property! It is a destination in itself. Beautiful, lobby with a great stone fireplace, lots of wood. Lovely room with high end linens, but the real attraction is the resort itself. Two huge pools, open exercise classes, indoor tennis, and a huge spa building. They offer every service and I could have stayed all day. It is a destination in itself. Also, the Olivette restaurant was great. And wow, what attentive service from every staff member. They even have an S Class Mercedes to drive you to the Galleria Mall or another restaurant. I"m going back.

The most appealing part of this hotel is the Houstonian Club. It has many pools and an outside bar / restaurant that you an eat at. They grounds are very nice and well kept. The spa is definitely luxurious. Everything is quite clean. My only recommendation is that the hotel is quite old and the rooms are in need of renovation. Still, I'd be willing to stay here again.

The Houstonian is a gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Houston. The grounds are lush and beautifully kept. My kids loved the pool equipped with a nice baby/toddler area and a fun slide. The room service was quick and tasted great. We enjoyed our stay and will be back soon!

My husband surprised me with an impromptu birthday celebration. We usually stay at the Houstonian 3-4 times a year to get away from the city. The staff is always friendly, beds are amazing and breakfast is the best. This time we got a pool side suite which was such a treat. The room design was more of a Texas feel. Plus the GM sent over a nice bottle of champagne. Best overnight and celebration. Thank you!

Excellent and professional front desk personnel. Bed was very comfortable and hotel kept in pristine condition. Bathroom \s are a little small, but the other amenities make up for it. Breakfast choices are delicious and if your into having an evening nightcap before retiring, the hotel bar has what you desire.
