I’ll start with the positives! It’s a lovely historic property, with extremely friendly and helpful staff. The food was also excellent. However, the package as a whole was really disappointing. Our room was really musty, it had a musty smell and upon getting into bed the sheets were very damp!! Further to this, although we didn’t pay for a room with a view, I also didn’t expect a concrete wall!! As we were only staying a night we didn’t make a fuss, but for £650 a night I expected an awful lot better. I wish I’d have stayed an extra night at the Gran Melia and just come into the National Park for the day. Gran Melia got my vote!

I have stayed on both sides of the falls. Having access to the park made the difference. Older hotel, but beautiful inside and out. Great staff and food. Walking out of the hotel and across to the falls to watch the sunsets was amazing.

I was not happy with my stay at this hotel. On our last night I was packing and left my wallet out with my passport hidden in my backpack. $700 us dollars was taken from my wallet. After doing their due diligence the hotel closed their case and said there was nothing they could do. In addition, I was told when I checked in that concierge would contact me to discuss activities aside from what my travel agent had booked. They did not. On the very last day an hour before check out Israel, the person who helped us check in says, Oh you should go to to the bird park when you do the boat activity (which was done the day prior and nobody told us about the bird park). Worst of all was the restaurant Y, they do not inform you that it is a pre set menu and you cannot order a la carte. The service at the restaurant was slow and inattentive, the banana leaf fish was very dry and truly I would not recommend eating there. The pool staff and breakfast staff were great. Rooms are very outdated. I was expecting a room and hotel like the Belmond in Portofino and it is not that. The location is great. Breakfast was good. Do not leave any of your belongings out. I was very upset about my theft. Never happened at any hotel I have ever stayed at.

Good but no excellent, needs more attention to details. Breakfast just ok, room kind of noisy and fine dinning restaurant very restricted in options

Location location location ! Right by the Falls and you can go to the falls when it’s quiet after the public are not allowed in. It’s just the Wow factor. Food is amazing quality. Some reviews say it’s a bit dated but to us that just added to the charm of it. We also used the hotels free bikes and cycled thru the jungle on really fun cycle paths. It may be expensive but this is worth every penny !

We stayed at Hotel Cataratas at the end of our 17 days in Brazil. A perfect ending. Our room was charming and comfortable, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel neglected to make arrangements for our transport from the airport (which was included in our LL package), but they made up for the error many times over during our stay, including a complementary guide when we visited the Iguassu Falls on the Argentina side. The location of the hotel also provides access to the viewing trails for the falls during hours when the park is closed to other tourist. A real bonus that is not available to those staying in the hotel in the Argentinian park. Next time I stay at Hotel Cataratas I'll coordinate my trip with a full moon!
