Hotel das Cataratas is an amazing hotel in one of the most amazing locations for a hotel in the world... one hundred metres from the Iguassu Falls in the Parque National do Iguacu in Brazil. As you pull up at the reception porch you can see the falls and hear the falls right there; very majestic and something which guests have all to themselves when the park is closed to visitors at 5.00PM each night. The hotel is colonial Portuguese in style with classic decor and furnishings (wonderful feel) and is set within lush rainforest and sub-tropical palms with lots of birds and wild-life. The rooms are spacious and have all the luxurious extra's expected from Belmond hotels... we had a balcony room overlooking the beautiful gardens and rainforest, and a short walk to the pool terrace and Ipe grill where we enjoyed breakfast each day. The Brazilian-international fusion dining experience in the hotel was exceptional with the highlight being a romantic sunset dinner for two on the Itaipu restaurant terrace overlooking the falls... amazing in all aspects. The hidden extra for me, was being able to climb the tower above the entrance to the hotel from which you could see more of the falls with 360 degree views around the property. The beauty of staying on the Brazilian side of the falls at Das Cataratas is having the park to yourself after 5.00PM when you can walk the many well marked and well paved trails all by yourself, and to see the rainforest transform through dusk and into the night. We took a night-time guided tour with the Park Rangers to the head of the falls after dinner one night (small extra charge but very worthwhile)... it was a cloudless, "full moon" night and we witnesses an amazing "moonbow", a perfectly formed white rainbow (without the colours) over the mist and roar of the falls... nothing you will ever experience like this, and something you can't capture on an ordinary camera (we all tried!!) The Iguassa Falls from both sides (Brazilian and Angentinian) are impressive but different... you certainly need to see both sides. I also took the helicopter ride over the falls which departed just outside the Park gates... an incredible experience where you can witness the vastness of the 2.7km long falls... the "jet boat" into the edge of the falls was also another amazing activity. All in all, a must see part of South America, in a "must stay" hotel.

Choose this fab hotel as it's in the park and allows you access to Falls before and after all visitors depart. Falls stunning at sunrise and sunset and, after dinner, for star gazing and photos. It's expensive though. Splash out if you can on Falls View Room. Great views of Falls from window. We sat watching with drink in hand!! Take your own beers/ water as terribly expensive there! Buffets excellent choice, quality and presentation. Choose Pool Restaurant if open as much nicer. Do go over into Argentina if time allows as views from that side quite different and extensive trails. Brilliant if dear caiprahinas served in bar.

This hotel was amazing. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and included toiletries from Granado. The food in the poolside restaurant was outstanding. At the dinner buffet, there are many salads and seafood options as well as barbacoa (i.e. meats on long skewers), famous in southern Brazil. One of the best things about staying at this hotel is that you can walk right across the road and view the falls before and after the general public has access. The cairpirinhas are served with swizzle sticks that resemble a scarlet macaw. The concierge helped arrange a boat ride down the Iguacu River to the falls. I definitely plan to stay here the next time I visit the falls. You can't go wrong with Belmond. The level of service and quality is impeccable.

World class hotel in fantastic location with exclusive access to Iguassu Falls. We enjoyed five extra-ordinary days at Belmond Hotel with great accommodations and service to suit. Highly recommend. Highlight was early morning hike to Falls viewing platform when park is otherwise closed. Imagine, Iguazzu all to yourself and you get the idea. We are filled with gratitude for the experience.

What can I say about this brilliant hotel that hasn't already been said but I will try. What a fantastic setting, overlooking some of the 270+ waterfalls. On my arrival staff were so attentive. I was advised that I had been upgraded (no extra charge) from the Noble suite to the Cataratas Suite (no. 1118) which had just been completely refurbished, I was blown away with the elegance of the suite. In saying this though what surpassed this experience was the staff, all made my stay here an exceptional experience. All the tours to the waterfalls are excellent. I would also suggest to go to the Bird/Reptile Sanctuary. This is definitely a place worth visiting. I look forward to coming back.
