The Hotel is truly worth the consideration mainly for its unique Location near the world famous waterfalls - maybe some of the nicest in the world. And as a guest you can visit the falls 24 hours and hear, smell and feel all without needing a bus or a tour! It’s also in the big adjacent natural park which is very well curated. The hotel itself is worth a journey as it is from the outside a truly unique building with a watchtower, a nice swimming pool and world class service at the pool and in the restaurants! BUT the building itself regarding guest rooms is more like a 70ies American motel with the filth and furnishing of that time. It’s a bit like a luxury colonial hotel in Africa where maintenance and manpower isn’t that easy but here we are in a well organized country with fairly functional infrastructure! The free minibar contains the worst quality of beverages like no name beer and the bathroom amenities are low level supermarket quality worth about 12 reais (2 bucks). It’s not the ciprjani in Venice of the same group regarding the prices but a double comes for 600 US-Dollars a night anyhow which is a lot in Brasil! Therefore I at least had expected a local luxury brand as shower gel like Occitan of Brasil or similar! My room was marketed as upscale luxury room with view of the falls, there was a window and in direction of the falls and I could hear it, but I couldn’t see anything of it! The buffet and à la carte restaurant were okay regarding the food, the wine list and the bar was for Brazilian luxury hotels top of the tops! In Brazil it’s usually hard to get a glass of brandy after dinner for example, here they have world class spirits for the category of hotel quite fairly priced. The pool service, free bicycle rental and concierge was super perfect! Just indulge and forget the room!

If you're even thinking about staying here, do it. It was absolutely worth the splurge. Everyone was so kind and everything was so nice. This is the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at by far. I thought I might feel out of place by how fancy it is, but everyone made me feel so welcomed. The staff had such a wonderful way of explaining how things worked without making me feel stupid for not knowing. For example, the first round of stuff in the mini bar is included in your room; no extra charges like other mini bars. On our check in tour (which is also wild that they do a personal tour but so helpful), the host explained it to us clearly how it worked. I honestly could not say enough wonderful things about this place. Its expensive, but if you can swing it, it is worth it for sure.

Hotel is overpriced, understaffed, food is second rate, rooms are very, very small. No where to put suitcases. Staff need customer service training. The establishment is tired and needs modernising. This is by far the most disappointing Belmond experience.

Having booked several hotels across the world I am a bit disappointed at their handling of my booking. We are two Adults, one child (6y) and recently have an infant as well. The hotel policy allows one extra bed for my child (6y) complimentary as do most hotels for families. However, as we also have an infant who co-sleeps with us in our bed (and does not require an extra bed) Belmond has decided to add another $500 to our stay to 'accommodate' the infant. I haven't had this issue at any hotel and would be more than happy to pay for an extra bed if that is what we needed. Paying $500 for my 2 year old to co-sleep with us sounds like a ridiculous interpretation of their policy. They also offered us a second room (i.e. double the price) but I have explained it is pointless as no-one will use it! Disappointed with the service.

We stayed at Hotel Cataratas at the end of our 17 days in Brazil. A perfect ending. Our room was charming and comfortable, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel neglected to make arrangements for our transport from the airport (which was included in our LL package), but they made up for the error many times over during our stay, including a complementary guide when we visited the Iguassu Falls on the Argentina side. The location of the hotel also provides access to the viewing trails for the falls during hours when the park is closed to other tourist. A real bonus that is not available to those staying in the hotel in the Argentinian park. Next time I stay at Hotel Cataratas I'll coordinate my trip with a full moon!
