A beautiful blend of old and new… (Updated Review)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

The photos of this resort just don’t do it justice. It must be experienced. The balance of upscale resort and casual vibe is achieved to perfection. It’s a beautiful blend of old and new - an established property with mature landscaping and a generous amount of space, with just the right amount of modern, upscale refurbishments and special touches. The Tommy Bahama branding is evident, but subtle. It’s more about the vibe than the logo. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. A Keurig coffee maker, great coffee, real mugs, and a refrigerator are provided in the room. The beds are heavenly. We loved the abundance of bougainvillea and citrus trees throughout the resort, and that guests are encouraged to pick their own lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. The restaurant, Grapefruit Basil, is exceptional, and serves brunch every day until 3:00. The pools, spa, fitness center, bikes, and wellness events provide opportunities for guests to be as active as they choose, while the fire pits and nightly live music are a relaxing way to end the day. Finally, the most impressive asset of this resort is its fabulous team. Everyone we encountered, from the night auditor to the wellness director, was warm, knowledgeable, and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. While one never needs to leave this resort to have an authentic desert experience, the golf, dining, shopping, and hiking in the surrounding areas are also top notch. We can’t wait to return to our new favorite getaway. Update 01/12/26: This resort is as beautiful as ever. Sadly, the service has drastically declined. We reserved our week-long stay 7 months in advance, and requested a room close to the main building. At check-in, we were informed that our room was located in the building the furthest distance away in the back corner of the resort. When I kindly noted we had requested another building months in advance, I was told there were no such notes on my reservation and no such rooms available. We travel frequently, book directly with hotels, and have the highest level status on both Hilton and Marriott. Since we haven’t seen tangible benefits from the hotel’s Coral Tree program, we book our stays at this hotel through Costco Travel. In the past, we received the room location we requested, a welcome letter at check-in with a welcome drink, breakfast credits, etc. All of this has been eliminated. In fact, the associate who checked us in mentioned we booked with Costco Travel, insinuating that was the reason our requests weren’t honored. He told us we could move to another room in two days, he would hold it for us, and made notes on our reservation. No one ever followed up with us, and we stayed in the same remote room the rest of our stay. In the past, there were daily fitness activities, such as yoga and guided hikes. I saw just one yoga class offered during our 7 night stay. The juice bar, where you could squeeze your own juice with fruit from the property, has also been eliminated. The shining star of the resort has always been its restaurant, Grapefruit Basil. The food is still wonderful, but the service has fallen off there as well. Although the restaurant was empty our first morning at the resort, we were told we would have to wait 10-15 minutes for a table. We tried to help ourselves to coffee in the lobby while we waited, but the pot was empty. When I told the employee at restaurant check-in, she looked up from her phone and said, “Okay.” It was not refilled until much later. After being seated, we waited over 30 minutes to place our order. As a result, we dined off property for most of our meals. Housekeeping is also understaffed, with bags of laundry and food left overnight in the hallways. Our building didn’t have any outdoor trash cans, so guests left their trash in the parking lot and stairwells. We are not high maintenance guests, but the totality of these issues wore on us after a week. On a positive note, the rooms are still very nice and the grounds well-maintained. Note: I responded to the hotel’s request for a review before posting this, and noted the same issues. I received a standard reply with an apology, but none of my concerns were addressed. I sent a follow-up email and haven’t received a reply.

Enjoyed the beauty, comfort and peace

Beautiful place citrus trees and vegetable garden and friendly people. Bocce game was fun. Beds and pillows extra comfortable. Peaceful and for those into hiking or gulf this is prime location. Probably need to have a rental car for hiking though. The restaurant grapefruit basil is really good, much better than the competition across the street in Hyatt.

Happy customer!

This was the nicest hotel I’ve stayed at the the Palm Springs / Deaert area and will 100% be coming back. The room are spectacular. Very clean. I always bring Clorox wipes and I wiped everything down and there was no residue or anything gross that I picked up. The hotel is beautiful. They have amazing fire pits, bocce ball, a pool, a spa and gym. I didn’t use the amenities outside of the fire pits but everything was beautiful. The bar was amazing and the food was SO GOOD. Juan our waiter was an absolute pleasure. So kind and attentive. Great person. He deserves something special for all that he does. He was busting his behind to serve many customers and looked to be doing it solo. He did it with grace and a smile. I found this place due to a holiday special and I’m glad I did.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Grapefruit Basil on December 26th. Jiovanni looked after our large family group with incredible grace and excellent service. The food was delicious and the room is a lovely setting. We will be back for sure and I highly recommend. Best food and service in the Desert!

Maybe the best spa resort in the Palm Springs area if not in the U.S. Beautiful rooms and excellent food all in a very intimate setting.
