I would say this is a 3* resort masquerading as a 5* at 4* prices, and because of that, its a 2-star experience. "Resort" may be a generous turn of phrase. Villa? LOL. What villa? Its basically a condo complex with private owners that the hotel manages and does a rev split with. Our room was basically a dated 1BR condo (it was 2 categories up from the lowest product to give you a sense of what we booked). Room pros: *Spacious *Because its a condo it has a kitchen and W/D if that has value to you. Room cons: *Dated, older feeling in rooms. *Terrible water pressure and luke warm "hot" water. *Paper thin walls and locked connected rooms, so you can hear everything going on at your neighbors. *Unless you are in Sections A or B you will not have a water view and you will feel more like you are in a condo complex. *Old, loud, air conditioning. *No safe Resort Pros: *The beach is long, natural and beautiful. Quite lovely. (Downside below). *While I see a lot of criticism of Eclipse Restaurant, we actually thought the food was excellent. The service was a little amateurish and slow, but everyone was very willing, caring, nice and hard working. You are in PR. What's the rush? *While people seem to gravitate at the mediocre pool near Eclipse and the beach, the bigger Zen Pool was actually nearly empty the whole time we were there and its a really beautiful pool with wood decking around it, daybeds with shade, and lush green grass all around. *Nice tennis court. Weird surface, but nice. Resort Cons: *This place feels like someone's investment that isn't doing well, and they are managing it from afar from a spreadsheet. No one there (outside of Eclipse) seems like they care. *The playground has no shade so unless you want your kids to get 2nd degree burns, stay away. Useless. *Very understaffed. We checked in and were basically handed our key and map, were told almost nothing about the place, and were sent on our way. No one to help with our many bags (we have a baby and lots of baby stuff), no further info about anything, really. *There are no towels available at either pool or the beach. What a pleasure it was to walk around like an idiot asking everyone and then being told that we had to get them from the front desk (the front desk is in another building in a different part of the complex). *When we did go to the front desk we were threatened with a $25 fee per towel if we didn't return them directly to the front desk. Very 1 star. No, I don't want to steal your $1 towels. *There is no staff at either pool, no staff on the beach, no shade on the beach, no chairs on the beach, no one to help you, no one to offer you drinks or food at pools or beach. Poor experience and lost revenue opportunity for the condo, er, I mean "resort." *There is only one restaurant. They knowingly advertise two, but one is closed. Was told its only for events. *No room service of any kind. *No water or place to buy water except at the restaurant at restaurant prices. Sad. *WiFi is mediocre and only works in your room or the restaurant, not the grounds. There is no cell service there (we are ATT) so you're cut off a lot. *This place is just off. Look, if we paid $200/night, fine. But at $450/night including tax, we had a poor experience and felt really ripped off. Excited to see the resort's reply below where they mention the few things we liked and ignore all the criticism.

Overall, the place is nice, the beach is quiet and the resort is quiet. The Eclipse restaurant is wonderful, but the wait staff can be aloof and not very helpful. I thought the rooms could all use a fresh coat of paint and a deep cleaning. The beach is nice, but there is little to no shady spots and the sand gets hot quick (not the hotel's fault but can limit beach time if you have little ones). The pool by the restaurant is small and not kid friendly at all. The Zen pool is much better as it offers more places to sit in the shade and relax. There is a playground but sits out in the sun so the equipment can quickly get hot and unusable. The road going in and out of the resort is horrible. I know they are still in recovery mode from the hurricane but make sure your rental has a good suspension system. The room we stayed in was nice but the appliances could use an update and I could not find napkins or paper towels anywhere. Again, may have been an individual unit issue but it still was an issue, especially with a 6 and 3 year old. My final issue with the resort is the resort's proximity to an airport. The airport only has flights that leave at night and sometimes the middle of the night. So you can be sound asleep and a plane taking off at 2 in the morning wakes you up...again, not the hotel's fault but can be an issue if you are a light sleeper. If you decide to stay try to get a unit in buildings A or B as they are closest to the beach and restaurant.

Just returned from a beautiful wedding. Resort is lovely, only restaurant open on property The Eclipse has fabulous food but the service is horrible, staff is unfriendly, unaccommodating and unprofessional. Waited at the bar for over 25mins just to place our drink order while being observed by the Owner, who did nothing to intervene. Very sad could be a 5 star resort if managed properly.

We just stayed at Villa Montana last month in February and we had such a pleasant surprise, this side of the island looks unbelievable, and the grounds and gardens of the hotel are so well kept. When youre here, you feel like you are the only two people in the world, its a quiet resort, we didnt actually see any kids, mostly couples.. and the gem at the center of it all is the restaurant with the view of the water, its got such a nice ambience.

Traveling to Puerto Rico on business, I had an excellent stay at Villa Montana. Although the room was a bit small and antiquated, it was adequate. What I enjoyed most was the peacefulness of the resort, the proximity of such a beautiful beach, and an awesome restaurant called Eclipse that was right on the beach and not only was the food great three, the ambience of eating right on the beach was even better. The only issue was the intermittent internet in my room, which was due to the continuing recovery issues from Hurricane Maria on the island. This caused me to do my work by the pool at the Eclipse, which always had good internet! Very helpful and friendly staff. The next time I go to Puerto Rico I plan to stay at the Villa Montana--but next time I will reserve a room right on the beach.
