Reviews for San Montano Resort & Spa
Part of the Small Luxury Hotels chain, San Montano is one of the top hotels on the island. That said, a five star hotel on Ischia is akin to a four star hotel in some locations. Its fresh modern aesthetic, multiple thermal pools and spa will appeal to guests who are looking to retreat more than explore. The spa alone could keep a guest occupied for an entire week, with roughly 100 treatments and services to choose from. The hotel, perched on conical peak, has 180-degree views of the sea (what sunsets!); a shuttle is available to whisk guests down to a private section of emerald-colored San Montano bay, or to the piazza in nearby Lacco Ameno (with its great shops and restaurants). For those who want to explore, Vincenzo and Marco at the front desk provide sound advice and speak English well. Its easy to get around on one of the buses that circumnavigates the island. Ischia is four times the size of Capri and there's tons to see and do. In the lovely dining room, Rafaele, Orlando and Franco provided attentive service. We visited during the hotel’s opening week and things weren't perfectly organized quite yet, but everyone tried hard and fixed problems when they arose. The food is good, but expensive compared to restaurants outside the resort. The appetizer course, a buffet, cost 20 Euros by itself. (The full dinner is 50 Euros.) The hotel primarily attracts Italians, Germans and Russians, who may regard a buffet as a plus. (Breakfast, which was included, was also served buffet style, but eggs could be ordered from wait staff.) Tip: hallways are tiled, and doors may be close together, depending on the class of room; noise could be an issue when the hotel is full. Room 120 is off by itself with a private patio. Free shuttle pickup from the hydrofoil and ferry arrival ports.

We went there for our honeymoon this summer. We did not get any special welcome or a glass of prosseco not even a congratulation. Our bedroom was quite small and very noisy. The food in the hotel is very expensive and not that good, the staff is nice but not very welcoming. My husband got very sick after meal in the hotel and they still made us pay for the diner...No special treatment here but you still pay for it!

We stayed here for our honeymoon in August and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is beautiful and has amazing views of the sea, beaches and Lacco Ameno. The sunset views are amazing and there are plenty of viewing spots around including the terrace of our room. We stayed in The executive sunset suite. We relaxed on our balcony and watched the sunset every evening and the room itself was lovely and had everything we needed for our stay. It was a clean hotel and the service in general was 5 star. As a couple who usually stays in self catering accommodation we found the service a but much to begin with but the staff were so friendly and keen to help where possible that it felt ok. The only reason that I have given 4 stars instead of 5 is because of accessibility. The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill (which is what gives it such fantastic views). The issue with this is that if you want to go into Lacco Ameno, go to the beach or get back from either, you need to get the hotel shuttle. This is a great service most of the time but on an evening you are told to wait outside another hotel for the shuttle and we found this to be a stressful experience as each time some guests were arguing over who had been waiting the longest and deserved to get in the shuttle first. The taxi's up to the hotel aren't cheap (probably because they know the shuttle bus system) but I would advise getting one to save on stress if you are there as a family.

San Montano on Ischia is a fabulous hotel. I was there recently with a group attending concerts at La Mortella (Sir William Walton’s magical garden domain), but would very readily return on a solo basis. The location is stupendous - on the pinnacle of a mountain overlooking everything: i.e. the sea, mountains, village of Lacco Ameno and the distant Vesuvius. These views are sublime. The hotel’s interior is airy, light and spacious; the bedrooms are spruce and comfortable (with private balconies/terraces), the food excellent, and the spa and various lava pools simply superb! If you are in need of comfort and ease this is the place to go. The hotel staff could not be more obliging, and those at the Reception desk, led by Vincenzo, are most cheerful and helpful. All in all, it was a very happy and restful experience, and I like to think that one day I might get back – with others or by myself. Highly recommended.
