Villa Ottone is an amazing hotel of Elba island First, the spot is amazing with its historical garden, its (very long !) private beach and its location. You are in one of the wildest part of Elba island, meaning you are not at all in the crowded part of it. Secondly, the restaurant is simply amazing. Do not hesitate to pay for the half board. It really worth of it. On top of the excellent cuisine, you can enjoy the sunset on the terrasse (or the georgious view at breakfast or lunch). The staff is excellent by the way. Third, for families, the staff of the kids club is very kind & attentive to the kids. They do nice activities together. Beside the kids club, the hotel proposes for free individual lesson of swimming. The teacher is also very good and fun at the same time. My kids have really enjoy it. The overall place is so nice that you do not really need to drive around the island. The hotel itself has 2 buildings : - the historical one is very beautiful and most of the few rooms/suites have an amazing view on the bay - the quite recent building is much more bigger and quite discret. Each room is OK with a nice tiny terrasse. I definitely recommend the place, even more if you find a good deal !

Just arrived back from 12 nights at Hotel Villa Ottone, a beautiful setting but remote - a car is a must to reach other parts of the island and get more choice of restaurants. A 1.5km journey cost us 28 euros each way by taxi. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable, the shower had good power and temperature (some may find it a bit small). Towels changed twice a day and bed is turned down whilst at dinner. We appreciate it's late in the season but all the flowers in the balcony window boxes were dead. Dinner is always a 5 course set menu and at 50 euro / head (not incl wine, water or coffee) is expensive. Generally nice but not exceptional, sometimes lacking in imagination and short on veg other than salad. dress code is confusing - men must wear long trousers for dinner but jeans are acceptable. Women can wear pretty much anything. I was permitted into the restaurant on our first night (in smart tailored shorts and classic collar and cuffs shirt) but felt rather patronised when I ordered steak tartare and it was pointed out to me that it is uncooked (I am an ex chef!). The Waiting staff & ladies on reception were friendly and very helpful. Beach is well maintained but only a couple of paddleboards available to get you out onto the water. The swimming pool is really cold but the gardens are lovely with resident ducks. Nice for a few days if you like a more formal approach but not if you're looking for a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

We have been in villa ottone for 10 days in september and our experience is great! The hotel and garden breath style and charme. The staff is great and always helpfull, even with ferry booking. The restaurant has a good choice and perfect service. They understand to make you feel special. Our small dogs was very welcome. Towels are changes twice a day, not so common in other hotels. The view on the terras of the hotel villa overlooking the sea in the evening, you will never forget in your life. It is worth every euro you spend. And we will return.

Beautiful beach location. We had locally produced beer in the beach bar and got complimentary olives. My first olives after 4 days on Elba (!). We had a room in the annex building from the 70s, which felt slightly dated but the retro jacuzzi was fun! Dinner was average, not good value for money. September 2015.

This hotel has a fabulous location but has seen better days. It's slightly shabby but not shabby chic and doesn't merit a five star rating by any standard of the word. I'm afraid that it's closer to three. We enjoyed the location but the stay was initially spoiled by a loud wedding outside our room until 1am. I give the hotel full marks though for dealing with our complaint by providing a free dinner for two inc wine in their restaurant (which is the highest quality and best run part of the hotel).
