This is definitely the best hotel in Istanbul. From the moment of arrival into Ä°stanbul airport all the way to hotel check in everything was flawless. Airport meet and greet at the gate definitely made things a lot easier in a foreign country. Services at the hotel exceeded all the expectations! Nothing was too difficult for everyone. Special mention to hotel duty manager, Mehmet Kasdan for the great understanding of hotel guest needs and went all the way to make sure my stay in Istanbul is a memorable one. Thank you for the Turkish coffee experience as well. He is truly the asset of the company. Hotel location is perfect - overlooking the Bosphorus and security around the hotel is top notch. Definitely feels safe here. Overall, thank you to everyone at Shangri-La Istanbul for making this trip an unforgettable experience.

Waiting for the RR hotel transfer to airport at Shangrila lobby as this review is written. Had the honor to stay in St Regis, Pera Palace and Shangrila in this week long Istanbul trip nd Shangri la was my favourite. Stayed in a non suite full Bospherous view room on level 5. Preferred this much more than St Regis junior suite as the room is of a regular shape and furniture are well spaced out. The big plus is the full Bospherous view room which is priceless and would have been worth the extra money. That said, the shower pressure on the 5th floor could be a little bit stronger. Perhaps, if you are on the top floor super suite, there would be no hot water....just kidding. Would recommend paying extra for the full Bospherous view room. If opting for a partial view Bospherous room or perhaps a standard room, I suspect all you may see from the room is armored cars and cops as the room may be facing the prime minister or president office on the right hand side of Shangrila. Breakfast comes with porridge and small variety of dim sim which may a big plus for Asians. In room dining offers Char Quey Teow (Asian fried Noodle) which is tasty. Other food orderd however including the mixed grill kerbab and chicken curry is ordinary. In addition, there is very little variety in the sushi/sashimi bar other than the bare basic. Booked room via American Express FHR program and did get one tier complimentary upgrade despite checking in on New Year Eve. A plantation of fruits, dessert and chinese tea was served at check-in which is nice. Would use this opportunity to wish the friendly staff at Shangrila a Happy New Year and all fulfillment in the year ahead.

The main entrance is via a private courtyard / car park / taxi pickup and drop off area. The floor tiles in the open air are extremely slippery when wet, a very bad design. Housekeeping and cleanliness of room was very good, but the remaining experience was very disappointing. Breakfast was average. Selection comparable to the other basic hotel chains. Nothing in the breakfast differentiated on quality. Waffles were dry, borek was dry, sucuk was super dry and barely tepid. For a 5 star hotel, some food could be refreshed if it is left for too long a period without consumption, for example the waffles. Without wanting to sound too demanding... as the hotel attracts an international audience, I had hoped that some staff would have known some basic English words, at least for things that might be frequently ordered or requested. The waiting staff were lacking in this regard. Having ordered coffee, which came black, I had difficulty in ordering milk. Service was very slow and inattentive. I observed a neighbouring visitor receive an omelette that was incorrect, she painfully explained why, then reordered. She waited so long that she left before the replacement was delivered. The image of a lonely omelette on the table waiting for the guest that had left spoke volumes. Every day I visited the breakfast room I was led to a table by a member of staff. On the last day I asked a manager who basically told me to go and find a place myself. His manner was uncaring and seemed irksome, as if I was bothering him with a stupid question. I explained to him that I had been taken previously hence my question (I have no problem finding a table by myself). He pointed to a table and said he could clear. I agreed and returned to the table after getting some juice. He places a knife and fork but no condiments, no napkin, no jams. He seemingly couldn't be bothered to prepare it properly and I had to fetch these from an unused table placement. This is a sloppy level of service not expected from a 5 star hotel. During breakfast, dirty plates were left in the centre of our overcrowded table despite staff passing by frequently. Basic lack of service. Staff did not proactively interact with guests. Even the task of seeking the attention of a member of the waiting staff was a mild challenge. The breakfast service seemed a poorly resourced service, with undertrained staff (including management). One morning saw the orange juice machine break, pouring juice on the floor. The staff mopped this up but effectively spread sticky orange juice over a wider floor area. A basic clean up task like this was lacking. Staff were generally pleasant but there was an absence of proactive customer service. Smiles and positivity were missing from every day's experience. This was especially apparent from the management (I'm assuming those that were not wearing waiting outfits, but were permitted to wear blazers). It felt that the breakfast room was just understaffed and training was required. The lobby was often chaotic as another review has observed. The lobby was often full of what appeared to be corporate conference guests and one morning had children running around screaming with balloons. It wasn't a very calm atmosphere. The decor was opulent. Another guest referred to it as kitch, this is perhaps generous. I didn't consider the decor tasteful, of course this last aspect is subjective and the decor may appeal to certain guests. You can find a better level of service and a more pleasant experience from Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, etc. Shangri-La should consider refreshing or overhauling their training requirements. A recent influx of poor reviews shows that there is room for improvement. In summary: Housekeeping: good Breakfast: average Breakfast service: poor Management: poor Would recommended: No Only saved from a possible 1 star rating by the good housekeeping.

I stayed one night at the Shangri-La Istanbul . The staff received me very warmly . Check in was processed in my room. Personal welcome from the duty manager. The lobby was luxurious grandeur and it was just a delight to relax on the sofas there. The staff are very friendly-always there to assist in every way and welcome you. The room was very comfy, there is even a tv with music in the bathroom. Only two things that need improvement: The tv could be replaced with a smart tv. Second, I went for the morning, and upon my return I found that the room had not been cleaned. Otherwise beautiful hotel ,right in the Bosphorus where you can fairy taxi to istanbul Asia side ...PS: try sehleb on fairy ... very yummy.
