I have been at Sofa hotel for 7 days. My plan was to stay only 4 days but we extended our stay for 7 days. The location was perfect. It’s in a shopping area. It is near to Taksim, in case if you want to go to the metro station. The staff in general were so kind and helpful, especially Deniz at the concierge. He was so kind and a good representative for the hotel. He was our guid to where and how to go every day. I would love to come and stay a gain at the Sofa.

I noticed that the hotel facilities and service are deteriorating over the last 2 years. The staff doesn’t care about the customer and hotel management didn’t bother to investigate a bout my complain and email.

A well located hotel in heart of Istanbul . a quiet nice hotel, close to the shopping area and close to great restaurants . rooms are nice and the staff were friendly . price was ok and not too expensive compare to others.

This was a disappointing two day stay. We targeted the hotel because of its awards (2015 best luxury boutique hotel) but could find little to understand how this award was given. Friends who had used the hotel in its earlier days talked highly about the quality and standards. On arrival we were met by construction work and refurbishment work in the foyer but let’s put this to one side because all hotels need to have maintenance plans. The check in was good but there is a smell of rotten eggs that is all pervading throughout the hotel. This is most likely hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas. Hydrogen sulfide gas is a natural product of decay, and in a residential setting, is most commonly a result of decomposition in septic or sewer systems. We went to the room and the smell became overwhelming! Another issue was the size of the room, we had asked for an extra bed (and paid an extra 30euro per night) for our 9 year old. The room was 30 sq metre but almost 25% of the space was given to the shower room leaving little space for the extra Z bed. Negotiation with the reception offered a different room but I ended up paying for an expensive upgrade to get a comfortable room size (without the smell). A well managed hotel would have offered such a change at a reduced rate! The room, a corner suite, had a superb bathroom with rain shower. The large king size bed was hard and the extra Z bed was even harder causing our child a sleepless night. The hotel designers opted for a low lighting level which did not help those with less than average sight to negotiate the stairs located outside every lift. The low level lighting concept continued in the room which may be considered ok until the sun shines and you notice marks all over the walls (for example in our room 501) it looked like someone had opened a can of fizzy drink against the wall and let it dribble to the floor where there remained a sticky mess. Not to mention hand prints and dead insects. The housekeeping was clearly not a priority and this even went as far a poorly made beds with sheets not tucked in. For a hotel claiming high accolades the breakfast was average with appalling coffee and no idea how to serve tea other than in the Turkish style. I asked for a filter coffee and even this was poor and of course I had to pay extra (15 TRY). The grumbles go on and on with the reception area being continually full of women and children and a noise level making it difficult to communicate with reception staff. It is a shame that accolades cannot be withdrawn, because the 2015 award is clearly no longer applicable. The hotel is in a perfect location and demands a high price by comparison to others in the locality. All in all it appears that the hotel is being used for its ready profits with little or no return into its its continual demands for cleaning and staff development. I stay in hotels on a regular basis sometimes twice a month and it is very rare for me to say I would not return. Simply put I will not return!!
