Disappointing Experience at Park Hyatt Istanbul, Macka Palas. Don’t waste your money!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I recently stayed at the Park Hyatt Istanbul, Macka Palas, and my experience was far from what I expected for a 5-star hotel. This is my second time staying after two years, and what a difference! Unfortunately, the hotel failed to provide the tranquillity and exclusivity one would anticipate from such an esteemed brand. The management has lost the identity of what hospitality should be and lacks any kind of integrity toward their guests. First and foremost, the noise levels on Friday and Saturday were unbearable from the minute you walked in. The Taverna music from the restaurant is blaring in the foyer and all this commotion, for just one table at the expense of everyone else. The other restaurant on the first floor generated a constant cacophony of club music and old Turkish classics that echoed into my room. The disturbance was relentless and all the while I was trying to get my 14-month-old to sleep. For a hotel that prides itself on luxury and comfort, allowing your guests to sleep should be a basic requirement. I raised my complaint with the hotel front desk. I was offered a room on a higher floor which would not have made a difference on top of disrupting my child further from her sleep and transferring all of our luggage. Excuses were made about an ongoing birthday party, but I knew this scenario would repeat itself the next day. I was right. As a “gesture”, I was offered an airport transfer that I didn’t need, as this was pre-arranged. I then had an option of a one-hour massage which I did not want, all for the inconvenience of spending 500 Euros a night and not being able to sleep, work or put my baby to bed. The management thought this was “good enough”. The subject was almost avoided upon check-out and the staff member who was super friendly and attentive the whole week, was stone-cold even avoiding eye contact. When I brought up the complaint once again, I was told that I had refused their offer, and they could do nothing about compensating me for the room charge. They would rather compensate me with a service that I do not need and unrelated to the problem than take any accountability for remedying the real issue. The management does not cater for the needs of their guests. For them, that deal is closed. The target is revellers looking for a poor-quality club vibe. It appears to be a desperate call to generate income for a hotel that is tired, unmaintained and empty. The hotel is relying solely on the Park Hyatt name without delivering the corresponding quality and experience. I feel very sorry for the staff members who have no choice but to work in this Mickey Mouse establishment and are trying their best to adapt to this style of management. Saying that, I had lived in Istanbul for 10 years and you can great service across the city. I expected much more from a hotel of this calibre and, unfortunately, it does not deliver.

Don’t accept a room close to the elevators

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Park Hyatt Istanbul is a lovely boutique hotel located in Sisli which is a high end area of the city. It is surrounded by restaurants, coffee houses, high end and local shops so the location cannot be faulted. The property is in good condition and the staff are generally very helpful. The rooftop bar and spa are also very good. The problem we encountered though was significant. We stayed in room 801, next to the elevators. Unfortunately every time someone used an elevator there was a significant whooshing sound which is tolerable during the day but at 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 am it is really annoying and being a light sleeper it woke me every single time, despite the fact we bought some silicon earplugs. It is really noisy so we did not get a single full nights sleep in 4 days. I requested we be moved away from the elevators but the hotel was full so we had to grin and bear it, despite the fact we paid significantly for a suite…

Horrific cancellation policy - beware

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This hotel has a horrific cancellation policy incompatible with modern travel. This was a true nightmare experience. Booked room with points only to have my international flight cancelled by the airline. Contacted hotel to make them aware in advance and they insisted on charging over 400 Euros for the room which was booked with POINTS. My best advice is do NOT stay here if you are commuting (plane, car, train, anything).
