Capella Ixtapa in Ixtapa, Mexico

Waves crash on giant boulders at the base of Capella Ixtapa, a secluded retreat nestled in acacia-filled cliffs about 20 minutes from Zihuatanejo. The open-air design of the villas and restaurants, where guests can dine on red-snapper ceviche with a panoramic view of the ocean it came from, integrates nature into all of its elements. Infinity pools take center stage here, as well as spa treatments in rustic surroundings.

Watch the daybreak sky turn pink over island blips on the Pacific. Get lost on forest paths before finding your way to a white daybed overlooking the shore below. Join a local guide on a tour of Petatlán, learning about Mexican traditions, tasting medicinal herbs, and swimming in a lush lagoon. Watch the sunset. The signature basil margaritas flow freely.

The hotel has a beautiful setting and every room gives new meaning to the terms ocean view or ocean front. The views are incomparable and the private pool a luxury. The rooms are generous and well defined and the bathroom was spacious with soft lighting and a great shower. For breakfast you could go to the lovely open air restaurant or have room service, I tried and liked both. The food was wonderful and the service amazing, Everyone was so helpful and so friendly. I chose this resort to disconnect and unwind and it worked perfectly for me. I hope to return every year for a warm weather vacation in this fabulous resort.

This is a great hotel, stunning views it seems from every room and vantage point . We loved our room on the 5th floor. We had plenty of sun for most of the day . We asked for a pool umbrella on our own deck and they happily provided it. The staff is great , service is good. It seemed there were only a handful of guests at the hotel, we saw very few people except at dinner . The spa treatments were well done and the staff was attentive . There are only a few choices for food but all that we had here was great quality. We had room service many times and it was always delivered quickly and as ordered. We dined at the fresh fish market 3 nights . That was a great experience, lots of fresh fish choices , well prepared , amazing views and excellent service . Only two issues for us during our stay. The hotel emailed asking if we needed a ride from the airport . They said for 90.00 they would arrange a car. We took them up on it only to find out they had a cab for us . No idea what the normal fair would be but 90.00 seemed pretty steep. Typically when we travel and a hotel arranges a cAr it is not a cab . I guess we saved waiting in a short line at the cab stand . Ultimately no big deal. The big deal is internet service . The hotel provides it for free but it's terrible . Constantly being booted off, prompts to enter your password over and over. I was trying to keep work flowing while gone and downloading documents was a huge challenge . You might as well forget trying to download a magazine on your iPad, their bandwidth is just atrocious . This is the one thing that would make us reconsider coming back . Unfortunately I have to be able to download and sign documents while traveling and this internet issue sucked up lots of my time when it shouldn't have. All in all a great experience . I would highly recommend the hotel just beware of an super irritating wifi system or bring your own global hotspot. We will most likely be back again

This place has everything I was looking for: Great room, secluded, magnificent views of the ocean, private pool in each room and great food. Can't beat Mexican service. From Nancy in reservations, JC at the front desk, Pablo and Jorge from the pool restaurant. Incredible, just incredible. Philippe the hotel manger recommended us for dinner El Amuleto restaurant. You just have to go. Thanks for the tip😘 Lino thank you!!

We took the advice of the other posts on TripAdvisor and booked Capella for four nights for our first trip to Ixtapa. We also took the advice of TripAdvisor reviews to splurge and book the penthouse suite with the large patio and plunge pool. We are seasoned Mexico travelers---six trips in 10 months to different Mexico locations this year alone. The entire stay at Capella exceeded our expectations--our best mainland Mexico vacation to date. It was romantic, the service was exceptional, the views were spectacular, and we felt safe (hotel security was top notch). The artesian soaps were a great touch, plentiful large towels, and high-quality linens. Very clean rooms (with the best airconditioning we have had in Mexico) that are welcoming and artfully decorated and the entire facility too. Daily happy hour of Corona, guacamole, and salsa brought to your room, which was always a treat. The staff were all very attentive to all our needs. We also had top rated massages at the SPA. Our only negative comment was a couple chained smoked through our entire dinner the first night. Even though we were dining outside, it was too much for us, and when I later inquired about the smoking areas, I received conflicting information. For getting around, we also took the advice of Tripadvisor posts and did not rent a car, as taking taxi cabs to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo was the only way to travel.

Staff, food, view are all top shelf. We have family in ixtapa and come here for a night sans kids. So worth it. Incredibly relaxing, don't plan on doing anything at all, and loving every minute of it.
