Capella Ixtapa in Ixtapa, Mexico

Waves crash on giant boulders at the base of Capella Ixtapa, a secluded retreat nestled in acacia-filled cliffs about 20 minutes from Zihuatanejo. The open-air design of the villas and restaurants, where guests can dine on red-snapper ceviche with a panoramic view of the ocean it came from, integrates nature into all of its elements. Infinity pools take center stage here, as well as spa treatments in rustic surroundings.

Watch the daybreak sky turn pink over island blips on the Pacific. Get lost on forest paths before finding your way to a white daybed overlooking the shore below. Join a local guide on a tour of Petatlán, learning about Mexican traditions, tasting medicinal herbs, and swimming in a lush lagoon. Watch the sunset. The signature basil margaritas flow freely.

If you like luxury, privacy, comfort and friendliness then don't hesitate staying at Capella! We were overwhelmed with our 9 day stay at Capella Ixtapa starting from the minute we arrived and we're greeted by the friendly Gabo (bellboy), Connie (personal assistant) and Sarah (front desk). We travel extensively yet never experienced such genuine warmth and sincerity yet maintaining our privacy. This continued throughout our stay. No matter where we went we were met with sincere greetings and smiles. Service was impeccable, privacy respected and accommodations superior. We so loved our private infinity plunge pool on our own terrace that can be heated upon request as well as the property's infinity pools...all with amazing views. We stayed on the 5th level, room 55 which was on the end....very private. When at their pool Christian was continually bringing us a bucket of cold bottled water or upon request food/ drinks. We wanted for nothing. If we wanted something to eat that wasn't on the menu all we had to do was ask and without hesitation the request was granted. We appreciated how Cruze (manning the area out front) always made sure we knew how much our taxi would cost, gave us hints on the area we were going to, and spoke to the driver to insure we would be well taken care of. Although not expected we tipped extra in pesos as we went through our day. Everyone was so appreciative and their smiles infectious. We will be making Capella a frequent getaway. Where else can you be treated like family while receiving privacy, attention and luxury all at the same time!

Amazing place- everyone had a private pool and patio, beautiful views, incredibly peaceful. Don't want to see anyone, that's fine, order room service. Our all inclusive included room service and a massage daily. Spa is fantastic. The food is to die for. Ceviche, sushi, steak, fresh guacamole. If you eat at the seafood place pick a few things and ask them to do courses. We are foodies and could not have been happier. Scallops and a fresh pea and fennel salad followed by an amazing parrotfish with sweet potato mash. Staff is very nice and accommodating. Will definitely go back!!

What a wonderful time we had at this special resort. If you are looking for a retreat from the world, this is the place to find complete relaxation. We were met with delicious hibiscus water while checking in. Connie was our personal assistant, Phillip is the manager of the hotel. Both were welcoming, Connie walked us around, encouraging us to contact her with questions, etc. Mother Nature didn't hold back. We watched waves crashing the rocks, saw colorful birds of a few varieties and even a large iguana sunning himself, all while we were enjoying one of the two infinity pools. It's quiet and restful here. I really hope to return one day.

We stayed at this beautiful, luxurious, romantic retreat in Jan/Feb! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our stay at Capella. We were greeted at the airport and whisked away to the most relaxing romantic week we could have imagined. It started with a friendly greeting by Connie and a refreshing glass of hibiscus infused water at check in. We were delivered to our room to find our bed decorated with flower petals and candles lit though out. The rooms are fabulous, better then we could have imagined, soft beds and top quality linens, huge closet/vanity area, shower with view of pacific ocean, mini fridge, coffee maker, loungers inside and out on the patio. Each patio has its own plunge pool, some covered ours was not, several cushioned loungers to sun yourself, stunning views from every angle! The hotel has two infinity pools, each time we were at the pool we had it completely to ourselves, which was amazing since we have spent the last 12 years in Ixtapa staying at a giant AI resort. Each time we arrived at the pool we were greeted with water bottles on ice, never had to chase a waiter down. It was so quiet and peaceful we felt like we were the only guests at the resort. The restaurants were all fabulous! Breakfast had a great mix of American and Mexican cuisine, omelets, chilaquiles, fruit, pastries etc. Lunch was just as great with anything from tacos to steak sandwiches. Dinner at the bar included sushi to steak again all fabulous. Prices were very comparable to restaurants in the US but quality was of a gourmet standard. The Seafood restaurant was amazing! They have a variety of fresh fish, lobster, shrimp, scallops, octopus to choose from. The chef asks you how you would like it prepared, scrumptious appetizers, side dishes, and desserts. Again we thought prices were comparable to a typical sit down restaurant in the US, the quality of the meal was far above what we would get here in the US at a comparable rate. Drink prices were slightly higher...bottled beer at $6 a bottle and cocktails around $8-$12 but not unreasonable by any means. Poolside and room service available for no extra charge. We loved the quiet quaintness of this resort, the added touches through out, beautiful architecture and flowers, the friendly staff, everything about Capella. We cannot wait to return next year for our 26th anniversary.

North end of Ixtapa, very quiet, no restaurants nearby (other than hotel), taxis always available. Beautiful well maintained walkway for walking or bike riding in front of hotel. View on backside of hotel faces the Pacific Ocean.
